"fascist" And all this time I'd been avoiding that word. "Fascism noun a political system based on a very powerful leader, state control and extreme pride in country and race, and in which political opposition is not allowed." -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "tavern owners to refuse to sell alcohol to people who are under 21," Most places have a voluntary over 21 policy regarding alcohol, specifically shops and stores. Its a good thing IMO, but I would have been frutrated and more sober in my youth if such a practice were around then. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "it would only have a minor effect on global warming" Any effect at all would welcome Mikkey, granted Kyoto is not perfect, but at least its a start. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Why are they so damned worried about the rising sea levels? Because it might wash away their Malibu beachside properties and interfere with human activity." Quite the opposite. I'm more concerned about the effects on people who can't even afford a decent house, let alone a pad in Malibu. The people who can't afford sea defences, flood barriers, etc. The people we bail out every time their crops fail. The West coast of South America. for example, suffers every time there is an El Nino 'anomaly'. Or the poor folks of places like Bangladesh. And my summer, lost, all lost to global climate change. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Hey play nice...." Aye yer right, don't post angry (work shit, nothing to do with you) being the lesson. I must try and avoid venting frustration on the forum. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Och Storm has asserted in a number of posts that global warming is nothing to do with us, you, or I. Repeatedly, us tree huggers have asked him to substantiate his views, this is the first time he has come up with anything substantial. Just having a little fun, no malice, not even to Storm. Of course its difficult to prove, but its equally difficult to disprove. The majority of informed opinion I have seen says global warming is real, its present, and we MAY be compounding it. Fuck me, Tony Blair says global warming is a bigger threat to world security than terrorism.....So lets invade the gas burners! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Oooh, its getting interesting, and fun for partisans.. In the red corner we have F911, in the blue corner we have Unfit for Command. At long last, a decent reference! You're getting the hang of this. One might counter with http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Global+warming Just for the sake of discussion, you understand...... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. A lot will also depend upon the environment in which the gear is used, eg a rig that is jumped in a desert environment like Eloy, or frequently used for beach jumps will not last as long. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Hmmm, I wonder how T.E. Lawrence would have pronounced it." Well then its probably 'none of the above'.... We seem to pronounce it Ih-rack, with Ih as in 'Illinois', its not Eye-lin-oy is it? Ih-ran is the same. At least, thats the case over here..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "All are affected." Both timely and true Mike. I recently had a friend take her own life after a miscarriage. Can someone suffer both from post and ante natal depression at the same time? Perhaps if Nikki had been identified as 'at risk' she might still be around. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Ex-freekin'-cuse me?!? "Cheney Blames Democrats for Gas Prices"
nacmacfeegle replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
I guess my comments came off the back of a radio show that was debating the concept of 'Fair Trade'. The debate included a chat with sugar farmers from the US. They were moaning that they produced sugar in accordance with local labour laws, safety regulations, environmental constraints etc, and therefore could not compete with cheaper imported sugar produced under less strict conditions. The US farmers were advocating a boycott on imports that were not produced under equal conditions, bouncing back the fair trade argument. This aproach sounded reasonable to me, however there is a downside......expensive sugar, or in our case expensive petroleum products. -
"I think that a lot of times the media sensationalize or magnify things that aren't --that really shouldn't be," she said...... Ex-freekin'-cuse me?!? "Cheney Blames Democrats for Gas Prices"
nacmacfeegle replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
"Environmental regulations these days, while nice, aren't really condusive to keeping gasoline prices low." There are moral issues associated with using cheaper dirty third world refineries, and I don't think that importing the products from such places is a particularly wise thing to do. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Similar to Bill's experience, but not particularly valid in a dust devil... I've never experienced a dust devil, but it sounds difficult to avoid. I've had a main blow up on me after a hard opening. It blew out some stitching at the nose, torn ribs etc, along with some broken lines. I could fly that rag straight with heaps of input, but I preferred not to try and land it. That canopy now serves me well as a dust cover.

Where's the best place for a hook knife?
nacmacfeegle replied to darrenspooner's topic in Gear and Rigging
"I have found that the Jack the Ripper I own is just too damn long. I like my knife on my chest strap, so therefore have found that the shorter ones are best for me." I've seen a lot of Jacks mounted along the chest strap, as opposed to up and down. Maybe worth thinking about. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Observations since the split to The Bonfire and Speaker's Corner.
nacmacfeegle replied to Muenkel's topic in The Bonfire
"Besides, it's fun to tell socialists how they're wrong, and then to show them." No its not, and prove it. I think a lot is misinterpreted, a face to face would probably avoid a lot of the ill feelings as subtleties such as intonation, and facial expressions are lost in the medium, so the humour tends to give way to cynicism. People really should try, remember why we are here, what binds us, and also that the political chats really should take second place to the jumping. Now, about that beer we were talking about earlier....... -
Woman Shoots Armed Robber After Beating, Charged With Murder

"How likely is it that this very specific alert was put out for political reasons?" I saw this story earlier and was going to squeak it into another thread. They (the US public) are being played.
