Okay, I posted this on the duplicate thread... Firstly toggles are designed to avoid such a scenario, however a similar effect can occur if you have a premature brake release during deplyment, the brake can tangle up and spoil your day. Okay, in this extremely unlikely scenario (but accepting its happened anyway on the basis that if it can go wrong, it will), you will probably have one released brake and the other jammed. I suspect everybody releases both their brakes at the same time, you ain't gonna know if its jammed or not until its too late, ie you will already have released the 'good' brake, and you will be starting to wind up a diving turn. edit>>>first thing to do is stabilise the dive/turn with the good brake and sort out your landing area, ya don't wanna be spiralling into traffic etc

Canopy with line twists under 1000 ft.
nacmacfeegle replied to rendezvous's topic in Safety and Training
Freebird, I have heard of severe twists causing stiff cutways, similar to a hard pull, if you know what I mean. I beleive the circumstances were small, high performance, highly loaded, spin susceptible canopies like stillettos. You should be okay with your Sabre, and besides, you ordered a javelin, which comes with hard riser cutaway channels as standard to help avoid such drama. As I said in our PMs you have made some wise/well advised choices in your equipment selection my wee pal...... Cya D -
Cool, mebbe see ya there then. Cya D

It was good to see you and Rich again at the weekend, are you guys going up to the San Marcos bash? Cya D

Freeflying, by most people's definition is the flying of your body in any attitude. This does not just mean head down, or sit, but also back flying, knee flying, standing and of course belly flying. In order to become proficient in "freeflying" you will have to be competent in belly flying, its as simple as that. Olav was on the German national 8 way RW team for example.... Bear in mind, a while back but not really that long ago, RW fliers were castigated and called dangerous freaks by the baton passers. In fact the accepted wisdom was that if enough belly fliers could get together, then they could land a formation without parachutes. We have a dynamic sport, in constant evolution, which is what I love about it. In order to become a well rounded skydiver, we must be at least proficient in most disciplines. Hell, I even enjoy crw and accuracy from time to time. And Ramon, some of the world's worst freefliers have been at 300 ways as well... Take care out there peeps. Cya D

"I plan on being the first person I have seen to take a camera helmet cross-sport" Malachi, I don't think we've ever met, therefore you wouldn't have seen my camera mod'd Gath skiing, bungee jumping, mountain biking, go karting etc. And I 've used my old Leo Dickinson helmet climbing, rappelling, and motocrossing (such a word?) IMHO POV footage kicks it, especially nowadays with good cams, and decent TVs. Yer gonna have some fun man..... BTW I don't have anything against the good peeps at Bonehead, I already had my Cam helmets long before they started commercially producing their fine products, and I'm happy with what I've already got. Knock knock, its only me, have you seen my javelin little girl??? "naked waiting dove" **Mental image dove naked, waiting, not wanting a pull out** sheesh there goes work for the afternoon...... Cya D

We got a crawfish broil at work on friday, which means, if I am a little sneaky, I should be able to slip from the party, and nip down to the spaceplace and git some.....fancy it? I'd rather jump than munch mud bugs anyday! When's the Takillyachick coming? Last time I met her, I got real messed up.....I need to brace my system! Thunder storms forecast for sat...... Cya D

Ramon, you crazy mixed up kid, it was Cody Farmer. And by the way it was FUN, FUN, FUN, in a learning kind of way. Plus I got to meet some very cool people! I wasn't gonna enter but I sure am glad I did. Big Texan hats off to Duh they kicked some, big style.... I lurve Texas. "2 teams totally unaccounted for " I think some of the other teams (Brian and the rats?)may have got a little bogged down sorting Chris out and they missed the deadline for putting the tapes in, understandably. For those who don't know, David Mckelvie is Nacmacfeegle's alter ego, ie ME! Cya D

My jav is becoming a bit of a floozy, she's already been playing with a certain Aggiedave. You should know better than say single and needy around here, you'll have a whole line of would be suitors (Clay et al)knocking on your virtual door in no time. Cya D

So do I, but you can't have her, she's all mine, , your welcome to borrow her, as long as I get to take her home each nite..... They did a real nice job on the T/D doncha think? BTW that's their new F/fly pud instead of a hackey, feels a little strange at first, but no big deal as I've jumped pull outs before. Cya D

and another, better view, were you in the Pro shop talking with Trent about RSLs at the weekend, just so I can put a face to a name... Cya D

here ya go little Bird, the bridle flap is bottom right Cya D
-
The bridle cover flap is a little flap that meets the boc mouth, and continues into the right side closing flap, avoiuding two possible sources of drama:- 1, it means there is no bridle esposed to the wind, absolutely none at all, zip, niet, nada, zilch. 2, it prevents you stuffing the bridle over the right side closing flap possibly causing a horseshoe, unlikley yet possible for the severely hard of thinking. Who's going to the Freefly Comp in San Marcos?
nacmacfeegle replied to FreeflyGoat's topic in Freeflying
Where does a 'sabretoothed/grizzily/hyena/dog' sit / sleep? Anywhere he wants...... -
Cops confiscated my one in the UK, they said it was illegal to monitor their radio waves. Not illegal to have, but illegal to use. They could have had me for a whole lot more if I had argued with them, so I took the hit..... Cya D

"Took my daughter to a Jethro Tull concert" Now why didn't my parents treat me like that? I feel deprived of childhood bliss.... Cya D

Great thread folks, I would like to throw some things into the pot. Check the post numbers here for safety and training, and gear and rigging, they far outstrip freefly, swooping, RW and CRW postings, skydivers do care about safety. I don't think many skydivers are blase about safety (DZ safety people ---STa, CCI, riggers etc--normally have word in their small and shell-like sooner or later), most are simply ignorant, misinformed, etc. Assuming we are talking about equipment safety, I firmly believe that most reputable equipment manufacturers (and equipment developers like yourself Mr Booth, big respect to you sir for your life's work so far) have done everything reasonably practical to provide safe, functional equipment (the important concept here is "reasonable practicality"). I appreciate there is constant development, we are a dynamic sport in equipment development terms, thanks to the likes of your good self. Equipment that is correctly assembled and operated is unlikely (in my opinion) to be the initiator for some drama. Mismatched, poorly maintained, or equipment that is operated outside of the manufacturers recommended limits is another issue.----We've all read the "death" panels on our own gear right?? It is a sad fact that the majority of incidents that hurt our brothers and sisters are down to 'human factors', people trying to go too fast, too far, too soon. Or experienced people making bad judgement calls. I believe that we should be focussing (in addition to, not as a replacement for, equipment safety awareness) on more structured development of skydiving skills beyond basic license requirements. Only now are we starting to see advanced canopy handling schools coming to the fore, but how long have 'high performance landings' been around for?..... I'm not disagreeing with anything said in this thread, just chucking my lot into the big safety melting pot. Cya D

Run a search on this its been discussed before. Its from the phrase "Blue skies, black death", its been around for a long time. Basically it means have fun but be careful... Okay? BSBD Cya D

"Hell, if I had a 35mm film camera that could shoot 29.97 frames per second for about 2 minutes, I could get some pretty cool shots!" Your cool shots would be incompatible with us Eurotrash, our frame grabs come at 25fps.... Besides, to get a decent frame grab, the image has to be deinterlaced, either in camera, or in some software, in my mind thats digital processing and shouldn't be allowed. Cya D

Who's going to the Freefly Comp in San Marcos?
nacmacfeegle replied to FreeflyGoat's topic in Freeflying
I've been looking for an excuse to come and visit San Marcos, so I'm gonna try and get my lardy ass up there. There will be a big squeeze on me then, from a work point of view, so I'd better start doing some, instead of hanging out on the forum. Cya D
