"Maybe stuff to help inhance it for people in our DZ's area?" Maybe another map, showing the main highways from H-Town. "The looped Reserve handle I've only seen a few times. 2 were on sponsored skydivers ( Once you're sponsored, you're called an "athlete" and some deserve to be called as such) I haven't seen em since, but I thought they were cool." Standard options on Javelins....No professionalism, or athlete status (thank heaven..) required..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Aye Stefan, but that is just the official site of last year's action. Your thinking something else, G222s definitely fly, I've jumped one.... I'm thinking C130, with the inboard engines obscured by the foreground jumpers. We suspect the pic was taken in Scandinavia, I'm guessing Swedish Herc boogie..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Airport Security and your locked Stuff...
nacmacfeegle replied to ltdiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Some airports can give you a 'security check' on your gear with you present (London Gatwick, and Aberdeen spring to mind) then they seal your bag with a security anti tamper thing. May be worthwhile exploring this option if you have time.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Take one brick, slap the goat in the nuts every time he is caught pinching the figs, he'll soon learn... By the way, can goats climb trees? A modified Dytter would do the same job.....all you need is a pressure switch, which is essentially at the heart of these things. Pressure switches should be banned as well? It was a home made "barometric detonator" that brought down the PanAm747 over Lockerbie. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "The people using them were extremely accomlished skydivers. Sponsored Athletes." Hmm dunno about that, but here's some thoughts on looped cutaway handles..... Heavier wing loadings increase cutaway forces, so increased effort is required to execute a successful cutaway. Mini risers also increase the required cutaway force. Higher performance canopies can malfunction more violently, again increasing cutaway force. Heavy gloves decrease the amount of grip available on a pad, and hence 'available' cutaway force is reduced. I jump a medium loaded (1.6 ish), medium performance canopy (spectre), all year round in a cold climate (Scotland), I have minirisers and weigh 200lbs+ I choose to have a looped cutaway handle, but my choice of equipment may not be driven by the same factors as other people's. I also have riser inserts in case I get wound up risers during a mal. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. I have both, have had old versions of the Timeout, and also I currently have a 'new' one, I also jump a prodytter and a protrack (different audibles in different helmets, so go figure). If I were you, I would opt for a timeout, it will be cheaper and the support is local, should you need it, I've never had any problems with Timeouts (or with my dytters fot that matter). I note there are some complaints here about CnG's customer service, all I can say is the ownership of CnG has changed, the always busy George Pilkington is no longer running CnG, Colin Bridges is. Buy a Timeout, support a fellow Brit, camera jumper, and decent guy. It will be cheaper anyways.....It does the same job as the pro dytter. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Nice idea Will, but the market is really dynamic (far more so than gear development), so any reviews would be quickly outdated. I doubt that we (who else would do this?) would maintain the reviews, so their value would become diminished after only a couple of months. I hear what you are saying, that the 'what camera' is a perrennial thread over at the geek's place, but to my mind this is the best way to manage the issue. Or you could always nip down to WHSmith and stock up on any number of monthly publications which cover the tech side..... PS what do you have in mind camera wise? Or maybe we should take this to the forum... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. I would guess that the fatality "rate" has actually dropped, but we are seeing a similar number of deaths per year ("deaths per skydive" number has reduced). "seem to have the same number of deaths each year (on average) " More people are jumping more often than ever before, so the death rate reduces. I agree the concerning thing is people getting hurt and killing themselves due to 'pilot error'. And you know what, I don't have a workable, effective solution to this, apart from education, skills, and experience. I do not want to see regulation in this area, however I may have to accept it if people don't start getting smarter with their choice of canopies, and landing style. I do feel there are things we can all do (instructors can of course do more than us mere mortals) to mitigate this, and that is to apply peer pressure to people who are flying beyond their skill envelope. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Okay, I'm going to try a different tact.... Do you care about your jumping? Will you be put out if the FAA were to ground the jumpships at your DZ due to possible terrorist action? Do you want to live in a permanent state of terror, and have you any idea what that actually entails? Do you want air travel to consist of long waits at security checkins? How about a curfew in your own home town? Maybe you'd like to see the price of gasoline double, or treble? Are you bothered that some of the people who you talk to, laugh with, or even jump with, from this board, or your home DZ are being sent overseas to fight, kill, maim, or suffer horrible injuries themselves for a cause that you don't care about? Do you want your basic human rights as a citizen of a free democratic country removed permanently? Do you want to do anything about it? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
