  1. Similar rules apply here in Europe. I looked into this a long time ago when a (then relatively well known) camera flier refused to give me tapes of dives I had done, even though we had payed him. He was moaning about copyright issues, loss of earnings if I subsequently sold the video, etc, but was just being an asswipe! The dives weren't astounding, and the quality was pants..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. "And another thread bubbles back up out of no where..." Some threads have a habit of doing that don't they.... Maybe we should change the title of it? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. "None of you freaks ever mentioned Devo!!!!!!! " For good reason! Are we not men? Put the Devo in the same trash can as Kraftwerk.... Early U2 stuff might fit in, War, Boy, Unforgetable Fire, Under a blood red sky etc all good road albums. ZZTop's Eliminator has good road choonz too, Who can forget legs, sharp dressed man, gimme all your lovin', etc..... Prince's Purple Rain album. Peter Gabriels 4th album, the one with Solsbury Hill, No self control, and Biko...etc.... But stay away from that new romantic pretentious pish, Teardrop Explodes, Human League, Duran Duran....Its just not good for you! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 4. PC7e came neutered by Sony. This means it will not accept DV in unless it is modified. You will need to buy an adaptor (PC7E requires VMC-LM7 Lanc Adaptor) and some sort of widget to re write the firm ware inside the cam. Run a google search for 'dv in enable' to find a suitable local retailer. Otherwise you won't be able to edit to the cam, or share footage with friends. I'm not sure what you mean by the lens question, generally speaking wide angle video adaptors don't work that well on stills lenses...... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. "wow... PD custom designed a 325 for you? " NoNoNo Rem you got it all wrong, I bought a tandem main and just hacked the end cells off it! Works a treat!
  6. Tsk tsk the REAL George Orwell would never have left out European rigs such as the Teardrop, or PdF's fine range...... The fight against parochialism continues unabated...... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. Not to be confused with "pay per pull" which is something entirely different.... I'm guessing Lilvixen is referring to a dummy ripcord pull, a process in Static line progression, aka practice ripcord pull.. Oh by the way, welcome.....
  8. "I also hear rumor's that Dick Cheney was CEO of Halliburton Oil before becoming VP." Thats a fact, I worked for Brown and Root (a division of Halliburton) at the time. We used to get regular missives from "Uncle Dick". Its not Halliburton Oil, per se, they are a 'service' company as opposed to an operator. They do operate one production rig which is offshore Bangladesh. "Rumor has it that Halliburton (Under Cheney) worked with Saddam to rebuild Iraq's oil infrastructure after the 91 war... " Why of course, Halliburton is known as 'Big Red' in the business. They are absolutely huge,. They sell all sorts of equipment to exploit oil and gas reserves, from drilling stuff to all the pots and pans required to process and transport the oil or gas to refineries. What you may not know is that they also earn good money providing support to the US military in the form of infrastructure. IE mess halls, barracks, logistics support, power, water plants, sewage treatment units, AC units, you know, all the stuff to keep the boys happy. Halliburton provide this too. Go here to find out more http://www.halliburton.com/ Guess who I currently work for? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 9. Rich, every cloud has a silver lining. Historically high oil prices means more work for the likes of you and me. More work means a greater demand for our skills, leading to an immediate rate increase, and unlimited overtime. War is a hell of a price to pay though.... You do know there is a world shortage of experienced oil people right now..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 10. "If it were my son, I'd take him, legally or illegally, to wherever I thought he could get the best treatment. " There you have it, this is a desparate situation for any parent to find themselves in. Hands up all those who, are debating this issue, are parents? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 11. Oaky, lets get this clear, I'm just discussing this from an outsiders viewpoint. I work mainly on the design of large offshore petrochemical plants....So we have an entirely different set of challenges. However, in the interests of debate
  12. "I'm curious how you have a workable goop at a temperature close to absolute zero. " I'm thinking more of an intumescent paste, which would cure (local heat pads similar to welding heat treatment units) and seal as it was heated, kinda similar to Pitchar, or Chartek, but a whole lot thicker than about 12mm..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 13. Thanks for the clarification Phree, like I said, I don't really know much about this stuff. I have enough challenges engineering things to work down here. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. Still thinking out loud Dave..... Could they have used their re-entry fuel to change orbit etc, then 'alighted' at the ISS, and await a rescue mission? The vehicle might be useless, and stranded up there but the crew may have had a chance.. Again I dunno, just chucking ideas into the pot. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. Okay, I'm thinking out loud here, couldn't a repair kit (Wendy's 'goop' for example) be kept on the space station, it would save carrying the stuff there and back every time, and paying for it without using it. I'm assuming such a 'kit was available or even practical of course. I don't know if this mission had anything to do with the ISS, I think I heard it was independent. If they could have made it to the ISS they might have had options to either stay up there till a 'bus' was sent up, or repairs effected in space? Hmm dunno? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 17. Guys, your thinking about this the wrong way, we should drop Wacko Jacko on Iraq, the regime would be toppled in no time, and all our people come would back safe.......And humming Thriller....
  18. Umm I'm guessing that the WFFC (Quincy/Rantoul)would have that. Or do you mean a 'regular' DZ. Again I'm Guessing that somewhere like Eloy would be a hot favourite, no idea on numbers though..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. When I have wire transferred money from teh US to my UK accounts I have had to give teh bank details of eth target account. I don't know if this is an entirely good idea if you don't know the person you are about to give your bank details to. Can you do anything with Paypal, or something? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 21. "I don't think we have that many people from Holland who post. I hope you stick around! " Welcome, Mccordia, Karma, and Dragon are from Holland. 22. Skygodess surely Ian.... Anyways the advice here is good, I would add one thing though. You can 'train' your peripheral vision, its quite esay when you are at work, walking around town, even driving. If you see some motion on your periphery, keep staring ahead and try and work out what is going on in the periphery without looking directly at it. You will actually become more aware of things going on around you, and this can help you a lot in keeping your head stable, watching for attacks from late divers, loose objects etc. Also get used to moving your eyes without moving your head, again you can practice this without even being close to a DZ. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 23. All the suits I use and have ever used (except one) have been built by Symbi. I have no complaints about them, the couple of camera suits they built for me had big wings, as long as you are not jumping a leg strap throwout system they will be fine. I heard a report many years ago where a camera flier pulled his legstarp mounted PC through the wing/thigh connector with predictable results, and ensuing drama. First time you jump a suit with big wings, it may be advisable to to a few practice pulls, and pull high, on a no pressure jump. The big wings can be tricky to manage at pull time, but no big deal if you are aware of this in advance. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
