Great thread Opie. "What has happened to DZ.com??" Over 12,000 registered users 'happened' to Dropzone.com. I'm not entirely sure (I have a fair idea of his vision though) what Sangiro had in mind when he set this site up. I'm guessing it was to provide a forum where people from around the globe could join an online community of like minded souls, bound by a common love of skydiving. Perhaps a place where people with very few jumps could converse with world champions, or people who have little technical knowledge could discuss issues with equipment designers and innovators. Maybe this place was set up to exchange hints and tips, provide real time news of events, or incidents, or even as a means for far flung friends to remain in contact with each other. Whatever HH's vision of this site was, I'm pretty sure it wasn't to give us an arena to sling mud and shout at each other. Skydiving unites us here, regardless of where you are, where your from or where you are going. Its inevitable that world events will be discussed, after all they affect us all. I just wish we (and I include myself) could sometimes be a little more civil, better informed, and even sensitive to each other's viewpoints/backgrounds. I doubt it very much, the delivery systems (aircraft and missiles) required to hit mainland USA are complex and expensive. A much more likley scenario? Disruptive strikes from relatively low tech devices. Lets take H-Town for example, max chaos for the minimum effort is the order of the day. With that in mind, think about a small bomb taking out sections of the beltway, I10, etc. Add to the mix a relatively innoccuous 'dirty bomb' set off in somewhere like the Galleria, or the airports. A dirty bomb simply infects an area with either some sort of biological threat, or low grade radioactivity. Immediate casualties are not the prime objective. The main hassle being the clean up involved which may take months or years, placing a very heavy load on local medical and hazmat resources. These are so low tech, just about anyone with a scant regard for their own safety can produce them, all you need is a ground up isotope (from say an x-ray machine), and a domestic firework. Set it off where something like traffic, people, or say a metro subway system can distribute it over as wide an area as possible and the authorities would have to shut the area down, and prevent civilian access. Think also the chaos caused by polluting water supplies etc, and you have a long lasting situation that current defence mechanisms are simply not set up to handle. These are the scenarios you should be guarding against. The terror caused by, say a sniper, would be nothing by comparison to such attacks. When you go to war with terrorists this is the sort of counter attack you should expect. I don't doubt it, I have no reason to Marc. What I may have issues with is people recommending expensive hardware they may never have used, let alone seen, especially to someone with low numbers. I made my recommendation based on over a thousand jumps using audibles of a variety of flavours, in varied situations, and jump types. Has anyone who posted here used the new Neptune, how easy is it, how long do the batteries last, is it easy to mount, does the software work? Thats all. I believe that we still have room for the politicians and weapons inspectors to do their jobs. I believe that the 'anti-American' sentiment reported by CNN is in itself an overreaction. Many people are against the WAR, not against the US. We have not sent 40,000 friends and family to support the threat of action there for nothing have we? Hey Josh, love the things are doing on your site these days. I use 3 off 5400 rpm discs in my old setup and they work fine.....Of course, a higher spin speed will inevitably give you good editing discs, these days anyways. Fast spin speed is good, but its the data transfer and seek rates
