  1. There is no 'perfect' camera helmet. You need to decide what the job entails, then arrange the tools to achieve the job. Are you filming for fun, or for a living, are freeflying, filiming 4-way, do you intend to jump your camera every single day, is it cold where you jump, do you need stills, what type of camera do you already own. There are a number of perfectly good camera helmets commercially available, and the options for custom engineering are as varied as your imagination. And finally, what budget do you have in mind? Most of the options are asking about have been discussed here.....apart form the drogue issue which was only ever available on a model made by Leo Dickinson, now discontinued.... So do a search and see what gems of information are stored here.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. hehe, a friend of mine who works in Sakhalin sent me over a CD of their stuff a couple of years ago. They have been using this gimmick for a long time, and it works for me! -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. I'm not overly into their music, I just like watching their videos, cos they are hotties!. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  4. Sounds like Tatu, very popular here just now.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson

  6. I'd say this would be more suited to being described as guidance, for instructors and DZ safety officers etc (don't know the Dutch term the UK is CCI, US is S&TA),as opposed to regulation. I see the difficulty arising where a jumper is already in 'breach' of the regulation and may be forced to either break the 'law', lie about their experience level, or sell their canopy in order to continue jumping. Will this 'rule' apply to visiting jumpers as well? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. No, the whole reason the Bletherhouse was set up was to keep the traffic down in talkback. Sangiro got (justifiably) pissed off when we were using this board like a chat room. That is not what this forum was set up for. Lets play by the rules, and wait till Erno fixes his bugs.I urge patience if Erno is having a 'bad tech day', he's never let us down before.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. "But I am shamed by all this nationalistic slamming." Me too, I also resent the references to the French people's lack of courage and conviction during the Second World War. Isolated ancedotes do not justify slandering an entire nation. I would suggest that the efforts of the US people would be better aimed at trying to convince the dissenting countries that this cause is right and just. Alienating and insulting those whose ‘approval’ you seek is not, in my mind, a very tactful way of going about business. By the way, both the Spanish and British people are overwhelmingly against the war without UN sanction, so support even from these allies may falter. A resolution requires nine of the 15 Council members’ votes in favour and no vetoes to be passed. The US, UK, France, Russia and China have the power of veto. We have also yet to convince a majority to accept the ‘legality’ of a UN sanctioned conflict. Of the current non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, Spain and Bulgaria back the US and UK position on Iraq, while Germany and Syria are both strongly opposed to military action. It is not yet absolutely clear how the other non-permanent members - Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Guinea, Mexico and Pakistan – might vote, but they are reported to be in favour of continued inspections. This opinion may be swayed by the promise of aid to certain countries; this aid may come in the form of economic, political, technical, or military support. This support (hell call it a bribe) may come back and bite us at some stage in the future, after all, isn’t this how we got into this mess in the first place? Action without the support of the UN will not be taken very well here in Europe. We have already seen cracks appearing in traditionally robust organisations such as NATO. I hate to think what a fragmented NATO, EEC, or even the UN would look like. The other downside to such an ‘illegal’ action would be to fuel every tinpot organisation with a seemingly justified hatred for ‘Western Capitalist Imperialism’. I fear this would start a global terror campaign such as we have yet to witness. A sectarian conflict, or ‘Holy War’, would almost certainly tear apart Europe, where we have a significantly higher proportion of Muslims than I suspect the US realises. In my mind the only way to achieve a lasting solution to this issue is to act with support of the UN security council. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 9. Hmmm, Titanium hardware would look really groovy though.... Only drawback would be the cost.... Based on what I used to pay for 'black market' titanium ice screws.....I can't see this taking off. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 10. Sorry to hear it Rem, its is merely damp over here right now. Wanna come back?.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  11. Ah the Onion, topical as ever and it restores my faith in the American sense of humour. Nice one thanks.
  12. "Very cool." Nice of you to say so Dave, It must be all that duct tape that appeals to country boy in you... I built that helmet shortly after PC7s became available (97-98 ish). The only alternative was to go top mount on my Leo Dickinson helmet, or build my own. D-boxes simply weren't available, and the sidewinders had just been released..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 13. "There will be clear indications that its a VHS copy." Its called generation loss, every time you pass an analogue signal through a cable you wil get a degradation in quality. If people are at all serious about quality of pictures, hey should stay in the digital domain and get a standard OHCI firewire or purpose designed IEEE1394 card. As long as they are working with DV images that is... Capture resolutions of TV cards are unlikley to even come close to a full frame digital card. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. I thought a discerning lass like you with a taste for Teutonic Tin might have opted for an Audi? Congrats, Bier? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 15. "Yeah, and look how well the actually function as a helmet." Hmm, looking at your avatar of the Agg swooping hard, hair blowing back in the breeze, .....thinking whuffoe he slag off Gaths? He no wear no hat at all.... Hey they are good for bolting cameras too as well you know, they're not entirely useless... And think of all the Shiner I can buy with the money I save by not buying a Bonehead...Especially if you buy your Gath from a non skydiving store. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. "Pay oil workers enough and they will risk anthrax to make a well produce." One maybe, perhaps two, but entire fields.....mmmm...dunno 'bout that. And there are better ways to screw up a well than just simply blowing the xmas tree off the top of the conductor/casing. Us oil workers put up with a lot of 'risky' things, but just as in skydiving, if the risks are managed (which is what I do for a living) we will go into hazardous situations...on a daily, almost routine basis. I just chose anthrax as an example, there are much nastier, longer lasting contaminants available. A small island about 1/2 mile off the west coast of Scotland was deliberately infected with anthrax during WW2, google for 'Gruinard' of your interested, it was closed for about 48 years, its now open again but nobody wants to go there anymore.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 17. "So you're saying it's all about oil! " NOOOOo....not that old chestnut again.... If I were a really bad guy, with poor taste in moustache fashion, and the most powerful military force in world history was arrayed against me, and they were after my oilwells.... I'd use one of my (obviously many) nuclear devices and irradiate the oilfields at the same time as I set fire to them.... Or pop a few anthrax jars, and preclude human presence for about 40 years..... Thus denying the 'Great Satan' his prize. Kind of an 'up yours' similar to the one he gave us during the retreat from Kuwait, only much more obvious this time. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 18. Sooo, am I getting this right, 2 FXCs on each rig? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  19. "decide it looks like about 4800' (waveoff planned for 4000', deploy by 3500'), try to punch an arch again, POP. FXC fires on the main. 2800', I was off by 2 grand! " FXC was hooked up to the main? "If ever in doubt of anything, altitude in particular, pull." This may be okay for students under the supervision of jumpmasters, but its generally a bad idea to be pulling at random heights if there are jumpers above you. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 20. "d-bag, PC, risers, freebag... " From new, all these come with the container, plus both sets of toggles and all the handles. French links also normally come with the container. New risers come with their own toggles. When buying a new canopy (main or reserve) you normally only get the bare canopy. Some canopy manufacturers (Precision) may offer a PC with their mains. If buying second hand, you quite often get, say, a main canopy with a set of risers, toggles etc... Although your mileage may vary.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 22. Littleskywitch posted this story on the Ukranian fatalities tread a few days ago. Dave shame on you, I thought you digested everything here. 23. Either god like canopy skills, or a fantasy nurse to attend to me, and administer the bed baths..... However, If I had god like wing suit skills, would I need a rig at all? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
