Tas, theres a DZ.com chat room which is quite busy of an evening, wed nights especially. Problem being it opens at around midnight our time....... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Ian, I'm assuming, from Bills failure mode prevention discussion, that a "capped end insert" would be like a smarties tube, with the plastic cap off, but the cardboard end still in place. This would prevent the tube (should it become unattached from the riser) sliding down the teflon cable and fouling amongst the 3 rings, possibly preventing them from releasing. Sorry no pics here. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I will say however in the short time after the war, we will use oil as a repayment for the war." Do some quick sums on how long it will take to recoup your estimate of the cost of the war. Include all the aid offered to various friendly states, and the cut taken by the development contractors. The US gov't will be doing well to get 5-15 dollars per barrel. Iraq were strugggling to export 1.7 million b/d in 98 at the height of the oil for food programme. 'Short time' doesn't come into it, I'm guessing. Anybody got the time to do some real numbers on this? I'm an engineer not a bean counter. I'd be interested to see some estimates. Gemini? I think you know some of the numbers better than I. What I do know is that it will take years to rebuild the Iraqi infrastructure, possibly tens of years to recover costs, and start showing a profit. This is long term shit, and I hope somebody has a decent plan post regime change. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Did they pay in marks, dollars, francs, lyra... or crayons?" Crayons Dude, more widely accepted than dollars, deutschmarks or francs, easier to carry than Lira, and they arouse less suspicion than bullion or diamonds. Have you never heard the phrase "The colour of money"? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Gawain, in my filed ..oil and gas, the main contractor simply supplies the infrastructure to manage design and procurement, th profit they make is something like 10-20%. The raw materials will come from places like Germany/Japan for steel pipe fittings etc. With free trade in Europe tracking components to country of origin will be difficult to say the least. We also have free movement of labour, eg 2 years ago I was working for an American owned company on contract in Germany, for a contract in Khazakstan, being paid for by a French/Italian/consortium. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. The media only reported what a politician said. Its the freakin' diplomats and politicians that have caused all this hassle in the first place. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I would like to see how many French, and German subcontractor companies end up in the picture," Loads of them. Simple as that. I can think of heaps that would be involved in the oil and gas side alone. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "The only american companies bidding has really pissed off some middle ground Brits though" There is no British company qualified to even tender this type and scale of work (please correct me if I'm wrong), thats one of the reasons I, and 2000 other people in Aberdeen alone, work for this American company. Halliburton (in my case a subsidiary called Kellog Brown and Root) isn't known as 'Big Red' for no reason! To say that the UK won't benefit from the spoils of reconstruction is kinda narrow minded. See guys, anti-war, not anti-American! -
Ooooh yes, How could I forget. Fatherhood has also affected my taste in lingerie, and my idea of a sex toy these days is a nipple pump! Where I used to read Auto Mechanic, and hang out at hardware stores talking powertools with the guys....These days I am more likley to browse Mothercare catalogues, and keep up to date with the latest developments in travel systems and all terrain strollers!.

Hey Michelle, I think Cheney resigned from Halliburton around mid 2000, early 2001-ish, I dunno because somebody offered me a more lucrative contract and I left them early 2000. I've been back with Halliburton since september last year. Yeppers, I'm a shameless techno slut, a scummy contractor, I sell my skills to the highest bidder. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I mean "model" pictures for his artistic development. " Yes, yes, Justin we are on the same line of thought. "This individual stated that Sadham planned on blowing up ALL of Iraq's oil wells." No surprises there surely Rhino, considering his scorched earth policy in Kuwait....The US govt has already awarded the wellhead control and firefighting contract to the company I work for. Any guesses as to who used to be the CEO? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Do you actually read it, or just look at the pictures? " Justin, sometimes I like to print things out then colour in the pictures.....Thats when Mininac lets me have his crayons that is...

Well, the other thing to bear in mind is that the jumping season will soon be in full swing in the northern hemisphere again. There will be tales of firsts, lasts, trials and tribulations, elegance, derring do, and downright stupidity to entertain us, and keep our minds from the world's woes. Bring on the summer I say, the winter has been way too long and dark. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Och it'll all be over soon, then we can bore each other with peace arguments, and whether the US are right to refuse to sign the Kyoto accord and such like.....hmmmm? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. FRom my time in the sand in happier more peaceful times, I'd say the 'family unit' culture is very strong. You only have to look at the much publicised structure of the Iraqi government to realise that nepotism is not only rife but encouraged. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
