I need one clarification before I commit to my final answer..... Which one has the best looking boobies? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "No. The kind of DV we shoot (MiniDV, DVCPro, DVCam are all pretty much the same as far as the data is concerned) is commonly referred to as DV25 and the 25 stands for 25 mb/second" Och bits and Bytes, sorry my bad....Big "B" vs small "b". Thanks for catching that Paul. As a rule of thumb your card, disc and firewire need to transfer about 5MB/sec to maintain crash free editing. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. If you get that concerned, stay at home, lock the doors, bar the windows.....you'll probably die slipping getting out of the shower....... Risk is cumulative, most of us drive and skydive and do other 'dodgy stuff' too, like avalanche surfing or gator baiting. You have to live your life and manage the risks accordingly. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. oooh lookey a hijacked thread, something of a novelty in here. Anyways, its all interesting stuff, but to get back on track..... Willy Boeykins, ace Belgian camera jockey-see the front page, once showed me his PC7, or 10, can't recall exactly, which had a home made latex camera condom, and a battery powered heating element around the front lens and focus bezel of the cam. It makes sense to me if you can keep the lens warm-ish, then fogging may be less likely to occur (similar to the sock and hand warmer solutions discussed above). Willy's footage certainly looked okay compared to some of the other guys who were having hassles in the Asian humidity at the time. Maybe worth a thought if the footage is ultra critical? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. If you are going to be using it as a 'flight (fright?)recorder' for close up stuff, I'd say a 0.3, the Diamond lenses are nice, but you may have to get a thread adaptor, which is no biggie. The thread size should be stencilled on teh lens housing of your camera, or haul it down to your local camera store. Anything bigger, say .42, .48, .5 etc is too narrow for close up stuff. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. what is checked in a flight line gear check?
nacmacfeegle replied to Newbie's topic in Safety and Training
Everyone hase their own routine for this. for good guidance go here http://www.zct.co.uk/skydivemag/pages/articles/apr97/flightlinecheck.htm and also here http://www.dropzone.com/safety/resources/safetychecklist/ Get into the habit of checking yourself out, even if you are a student or under supervision, it doesn't hurt, and ask someone about it if your not sure. Its also a good idea to learn how to pin check yourself prior to exit, its easy once you know how. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable, and a couple of spare tapes perchance?, maybe even a spare longer life battery? When they start making cameras with fast USB connections I might take an interest, till then, I'm sticking with firewire. Isn't 12mb/sec fast enough for 'normal' dv? Firewire is fast enough, so a bigger/faster pipe is about as much use to me as an inflatible dartboard. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Mmmmm, dunno yet Rem, but I am trying to swing it......How was my French, I haven't used any since I was last there. Crosswind on DVD? Oui, parlez vous Francais? Allez ici, et achetez.... http://www.para-net.org/paramag/flashed.html As far as I can gather from my schoolboy Francais, there's a bonus 40 mins......yummy! Beware my colonial crosswind addicts, this will probably not play on your NTSC machines, so make sure you know what you are doing before you buy one....... I'd also recommend the Espace boogie discs, or 'disques' as my Gallic pals call them.....I just love that AN72. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Can someone give me a little advice please :)

You live in Peterborough right? Pop into Sibson airfiled and speak with the guy who runs the DZ (ask for Mr Meacock) about the packing etc, he will be able to advise. Black Knights is a good DZ but Sibson is on your doorstep. Personally speaking, I would not use a packer who doesn't jump, but that's just me. I'm not sure if you can be an 'official' packer in teh UK without having a packing cert, and you can't have one of those without being a BPA member, but I am not 100% sure on this....Good luck either way. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. What Murrays said worked for me when I was doing it a while back. Find the local equivalent of 'What Camcorder' and check the adverts in the mag, then phone around, most repro houses will do you a decent job. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "To me, on the vid, it looks like the briddle loops itself around the foot... I looked at it several time frame by frame, and it looks like that to me..." I'm with the Remster on this one, it loops around the whole foot, its pretty clear frame by frame. In QT pause it and use the cursor arrows (left and right) to frame advance etc.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I want to change USA to Florida and California - most of what you blethered on about applies there too" What Floridian dollars look different to Californian dollars?
