  1. and I ask again: then how do YOU propose allowing them to declare themselves life partners and be afforded the exact same rights as "married" hetero couples? No separate but equal, different language stuff here, either. You know how lawyers are, and if a law says "married" and a gay couple tries to exercise the right listed under said law, you KNOW someone will challenge it, civil union or not. So give us a solution. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  2. no one claimed the world hated the US. they claimed that the world hated the BUSH administration. which is, indeed, what that poll says. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

  4. It's been answered a lot, but i'll do so again. No. call them civil unions. I don't care. HOWEVER! until civil unions grant the exact same rights that marriage does, then we are just perpetuating "separate but equal" all over again. So we are back to changing language in current and future laws to say "civil union" as opposed to "married" and "civil partner" as opposed to "spouse". Do you SEE the issue? Any law that currently is on the books that refers to marriage, married people, spouses, etc, are currently excluding gays, since they cannot get legally "married". 5. You know when i said i don't want "joe six-pack" leading this country? yeeeaahhh...this is why. where's the outcry about "elitism" now? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  6. hehe, yah, it would have to be something "official". as an aside, my little brother wrote a nice little essay on facebook today, gonna quote it here because he says things better than i ever could: -- Ron Houk Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  7. Something came to me today... so if someone uses "marriage" in another context in CA, can i sue them or bring charges? i.e: "This idea was a marriage of conservative principles and religious dogma" i mean, according to a literal interpretation of the new CA constitution...THAT SENTENCE IS AGAINST THE LAW!!! god, can't people see how amazingly fucking stupid prop 8 was? *sigh* Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  8. My friend said the minister of her church could be sued for refusing to marry a gay couple if prop 8 didn't pass and that her church would have to close. There would already be a lot of closed churches, since any church, at any time, may refuse to marry ANYONE. it's always been that way. My husband used to attend a church that refused to marry anyone who was not a member of said church. Sorry to say your friend was grossly misinformed, and it sounds like a typical scare tactic the "yes on 8" people would use. Just like the "they'll be forced to teach our kids about gay marriage in schools" crap. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

  10. the more i think about it, the more i am astounded at the idiocy of the california (and FL, AZ, etc) electorate. Seriously, what a completely USELESS thing to put in our constitution! Constitutional amendments should be about important things...like the US Bill of Rights, for example. Think of all the could have been accomplished with the sheer amount of money spent on the Prop 8 BS. I'm ashamed that people seriously think it's ok to amend a constitution to ELIMINATE rights in this day and age. ashamed. 12. oh great. absolutely. Jeanne, come on, when was that movie made? lol See, the kids who played video games when you were in junior high/high school/college are now adults, hence the 30-somethings who dominate my xbox friends list, my friends lists in my online games, and most of the gaming communities i observe. Now, to me, a truly interesting study would be to somehow compare the amount of real life violence exhibited by children of gamers who grow up with games vs. "first-gen" gamers whose parents never played games themselves. 14. well, now, DS, who said that *I* am not ALSO an avid gamer? and yes, i play both fallout 3 and wow (and eq2, and warhammer, and fable 2, and call of duty, and etc etc etc) I'm not ashamed of it...gaming isn't just for basement nerds anymore. Fastest growing slice of the entertainment industry pie, actually. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  15. heh, i just got a recorded phone call about getting out to vote and not letting the coverage discourage me from voting. Paid for by one of the senatorial candidates. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  16. HAHAHAHHA...Quade? LOLOLOLOL Lemme guess...Fallout 3? Yeah...that's one my friend doesn't let his kid watch or play, lol. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  17. You still haven't addressed the very valid point that I and several others have brought up here...what about your local races? Ballot initiatives? Congressman? Senator (if that applies). So many other reasons to cast a ballot. You seem to worry about taxes...you know, i would be willing to bet that wherever you are, there's a levy, tax, or bond issue on your ballot that you could go vote down. 18. Ah, yes I did think of them. But I was told to be careful getting coaching from 4way people as they may or may not be the best ones to provide specific big way skill coaching. But I did email them
  19. speaking of tactics...anyone else's banner ad on this site a "Yes on Prop 8" ad? LMAO. get it off!!!!! gah! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  20. I don't have kids. The only input i can add is my dealings with my best friend, who is the most avid of avid gamers. I mean, he has all consoles (from the original NES onward...), keeps an updated spreadsheet of all the games he's ever owned, and tracks how many of said games he's beaten. This guy is a fanatical gamer. He has a 6-year old son. His son loves games. His son is an amazingly intelligent kid who kicks our asses in Mario Kart, Wii anything, Zelda, etc. But my friend keeps tight control on what his son is allowed to play, or even SEE. When the kid's at school or in bed for the night, that's when he plays the FPS games and the more violent things. OK, so what i'm saying in waaaaaaay too many words is that this is another PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY issue, plain and simple. My friend knows that it's HIS JOB as a father to be responsible for what his son sees or doesn't see in regards to games. Don't really need a study to say that violence in games might make kids more aggressive. Who cares? What matters is what we do about it. Parents need to teach their kids what is right and wrong, real and fantasy, etc. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

  22. So don't vote for president. But i bet there's a bunch of local races that affect YOU personally and your vote WILL count. Through all your posturing, all i really see is an excuse to be lazy. The presidential race is one little part of the ballot. Hell, in CA i had 12 state propositions to vote on, some of which i feel very strongly about. Go vote, intentionally leave the presidential part blank, and decide on the local things that will affect your day to day life. 23. ha! sorry for reading into that, i apologize. Perhaps it is the *manner* of your delivery that leads one to make incorrect conclusions. You are downright rude and condescending to anyone who posts on this topic...thus I tend to assume that you disagree with the subject matter. Perhaps it is a result of too much time being lambasted on a personal level in this forum that leads me to make these assumptions. So many people here treat those they disagree with like rubbish, so i say, once bitten twice shy, for lack of a better expression. My apologies for assuming you were anti-gay marriage. I do not, however, apologize for calling you out on your rude and condescending tone. Catch more flies with honey, my friend. And no, i don't hang out in the ghetto nor do I BASE jump (yet). Honestly, i'm terrible with names, but my memory operates on a visual level. If i saw a picture, i'm quite sure i'd know you Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  24. not sure who you are or what your justification for the denigration of the people posting here, but i'll humor you. The bottom line for me is i abhor anything that takes away rights from law-abiding citizens. I honestly do NOT know enough of the details about your precious texas case to make a judgment. Prop 8 is about eliminating rights. plain and simple. So tell me, if you are so incensed about what happened in texas, then you being in favor of taking away gay marriage rights seems a bit incongruous, don't you think? So is polygamy OK but gay marriage not OK? is that what you're saying? If it's not, then why bother arguing...we're all saying the same thing. If it is, then who is the hypocrite? 25. Our mailbox shares a post with 3 of our neighbors'. Imagine my utter delight walking out to get the mail yesterday and there's a big "Yes on Prop 8" sign right smack in front of the mailboxes. I took it down. I feel justified, since no one asked my permission to put it there, and it's my mailbox/front yard area too.
