I don't buy the washed down the river theory regarding the money, and not just because of Tom Kaye's money packet 'fanning' results. It's simple logic and I've run it past people before, including FBI agent Fuhrman (spelling ok I hope) who said it made sense. It is possible that a few of the bills could wash up in the same spot. Or a single bundle floated onto the beach somehow. It is possible that MOST of the money could have fallen mysteriously from the sky and ended up in the same spot. But Tena Bar is supposedly pretty far off 305's alleged flight path. It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that three bundles could float miles down a river, and stay together long enough (unless they had strings attached to each other) and end up in the same spot. Here's another way to think about it, all you floated-down-the-river proponents: (and I don't mean this as an insult or anything, cross my heart) Imagine you are up on the Washougal and you throw out 100 items that float...all duplicate items. What are the chances of three ending up in the same spot on a riverbank miles away? It doesn't make sense. Unless you buy into the dredging idea, there is no logical way to explain how three bundles could end up in the same spot miles away after floating down a river FOR MILES. We're talking about a Washington river, full of rocks, rapids, twists and turns, and sometimes fast currents. Maybe Kaye is right when he says he thinks the money arrived by 'non-natural means,' i.e. human intervention. That leaves planting or dredging, not floating. The condition of the serial numbers (perfectly aligned to a degree that the inks on the numbers ran together) makes planting a more likely possibility. Imagine you are the hijacker for a moment. Put yourself into his shoes. How do you plant money that makes the FBI believe you're dead? Do you toss it on the ground in the woods? NO. This would prompt a thorough search of the immediate area for parachutes, body, briefcase, etc. And if the FBI finds nothing, then all you are telling them is that you (the hijacker) probably survived the jump. Do you toss a few bundles in the river and hope for the best? Maybe, but if the money sinks, then all you've done is waste $6,000 of your hard-earned cash. Do you plant it a few inches beneath the ground near a riverbank? YES. This might tell the FBI that you landed in the river and drowned, or that you landed upriver and drowned, and the money washed down there somehow. (But there's that nagging 'how-do-three-end-up-in-the-same-spot' thing again) Remember, at the time the money was found, there was no dredging theory yet, nor any study by Tom Kaye. It wasn't until this year that Kaye released his results. The dredging theory has always been inconclusive. So up until now, there has been a lot of doubt. People said it could have washed down the river, others think Cooper no-pulled into the river, etc. But Kaye's results make these theories less likely. This leaves human intervention as a definite possibility. And if this was Cooper's goal, he succeeded, because it was AFTER the money was found that the FBI began to say they thought Cooper surely died in the jump. Although they had been saying that to a degree BEFORE the money was found, they REALLY started in with that line AFTERWARD. A riverbank plant solves a lot of problems all at the same time. No body, no chute? No problem. A River Ran Through It. That's why there's nothing else around. No other money found? No problem. A River Ran Through It. Cooper may have been smarter than we thought. I have wondered sometimes if he initially planted it close to the surface, maybe even leaving the edges of a couple of the bills visible, but didn't count on no one finding it for years. So the next time (post-plant) that the river rises, the money gets a bit more sand deposited on top. Then maybe a couple of more times later, until there's maybe six inches of sand on top of it. Maybe that was his only mistake. But in the end, it didn't matter. As far as the FBI was concerned...A River Ran Through It. Ariel: I stayed until 9PM. But after 8PM I was outside. Couldn't take the loud music anymore, it had been going since 5PM and between that and answering questions, my voice was nearly gone. I had to go outside for a while. I spoke to Brian Ingram and Bruce Christiansen, a few others...then I made the long drive back to Auburn. I would have been polite to Bruce, had I seen him. But I would have refused to answer any questions. Last time I did...(*laughs*) didn't work out too well for me. I got Dormuth-ed. I thought his article was okay. See what happens when everyone pulls together to find the logics and the truths - even though there have been lots of theories and lots of bantering through the yrs. The truths that combine with the facts usually comes out in the end and those who come knocking on the door of the DZ better think twice about playing hokey pokey with Cooper facts or perhaps they need to study the thread to learn a little history before coming off with half-cock-eyed stories they think will toot them as an authority on Cooper. I tried to post a couple of times today to ask questions, but was not able to do so. Do not know if the problem has been solved so this is just to see the post will appear. Too sick to do much about anything right now. Marla Cooper researched me - she used my exact words that I have used for yr. "I know what I know and I have not changed my story". Check out the phrase in this thread - and the one with 101. I made some really good posts, but they did NOT go thru. Had 2 really bad days and not because of Cooper. A scary reaction of medication - tongue swoll up an consumed my mouth and breathing. I was never so frightened of dying in my life and I thought this was it. That was Friday night (Sat morning about 2:45). Better today, but very very sore and very very exhausted. Well, it did post. P.S. Marla's Uncle was NOT Cooper. Too young and her memories are of an 8 yr old from a family whose name was Cooper. This was a family thing during those days and NOT something anyone would have talked about if they had any connections to the incident. We all know why Dan Cooper was the chosen name - and it had nothing to do with Cooper Comics. It had to do with Mann Gulch and that was the grude. The old indian ways were NOT taught to the jumpers and lives were lost. History was ignored. There was an individual at the symposium who kept a low key and for a very very good reason. The search for John Collins is NOT over...nor is the investigation into Duane Lorin Weber. The FBI is NOT investigating anyone and that includes Marla Coopers - uncle. How many times have I made the same statement she made word for word. I know what I know. My story has not changed. How can she possibly compare herself as a child hearing a story to an adult who experienced 17 yrs with a man who said "I'm Dan Cooper" and the same woman who as a widow has continued to try to get the FBI to really investigate for over 15 yrs. If a FBI agent tells a widow her husband was never in a certain prison or in the army and the widow is holding documents to the contrary - there is a RAT in the Wood Pile. Marla's Uncle was way too young and the description I have heard does not match the description of Cooper. What the FBI needs to do - is locate all of the fingerprints on Duane L. Weber aka John C. Collins and find out if they match the prints they have on file. Otherwise I need an explanation of why they had John C. Collins in a prison and commuted him and then went looking for Duane l. Okay - thanks. I will bite - what is the scoop on this man. How old was he and what happened to him and why does Sluggo list him as suspect? He seemed to be balding in that photo, but what happened to this man after 1970 and has he actually been investigated as a suspect. The photo - you posted (I could put a mustach on that man and take away more of his hair - and age him and it would be someone I knew by another name) - nice looking man. The photo obviously was taken from someone much shorter than the subject. What locations was this Gannett known to reside in and what was his life style...did he own property in the Olympia area? P.S. Totally off subject: I just cleaned up 3 persimmon woods - 1, 3 and 5. Custom made for Weber in 1979 and never used. He picked them up in either Vail or Aspen. Of course I did not go with him into the shop, I went else where (he told me he had to pick up something, but I couldn't understand what he needed custom woods for). The man who made them was an OLD friend. Duane only played golf about 3 times during our marriage. This was not during the winter as there was NO snow on the ground. My daughter was not with us on that trip. This is just another memory, but it made me think about something. I do NOT know if I can actually recall all of the times Duane went to see "someone he used to know" and sent me off shopping somewhere else in the area...perhaps it was just the times, but now in retrospect this seems ODD. Why didn't he want me to meet that old friend? There were lots of encounters like that. I did meet some of the men and one man did NOT want to talk infront of me. Took Duane off to a private place...this was the "package" he delivered in Atlanta to a man I have since been told had Mafia connections (no proof of that). Ed Horan did NOT want to be photographed and his history with Duane was in the N.W. and AZ. The guy in Denver - old friend of Duane's and they lived in Castleberry, Co at that time. Harry or Harrison - never could remember the name...was missing his right leg below the knee due to what he said was cancer. Claimed to have been a chauffer for Howard Hughes and talked about TX and AZ. I wonder if I looked thru the album if I might not remember some of these other encounters with "old friends". I know 2 of them were in N.Orleans...a man who had a shoe shine place in one of the hotels (remember those). The other was a man who played a trumpet in a place on the corner. Duane sent me elsewhere - so he could go see this man. 1st time he was not there and Duane went back before we left and again - left a "package"...this was 1980 or 1981. I realize I have told some of this before, but it seems like one memory is triggering another memory right now and I am just on a roll. I am shaking my head right now. Why am I stuck on this "used to know" and remembering all of this? Why did Duane have so many "friends" that I never met and the one's I met where suspicious? Remember the couple we went to dinner with the night the Cooper special was supposed to be on in the middle of the wk. I had never met these supposed friends. Supposedly they owned a dry cleaners or managed a dry cleaners in the area. I only knew what Duane told me (I never met them before or since and do not remember the names). Duane knew lots of people in CO - and maybe the reason he did NOT want me to meet most of these people was because they knew him as JOHN COLLINS! Wonder why it was so important he continue the John Collins thing even when he did NOT need to do so. There was the man at the Red Rooster or Hen (a restuarant and bar and hotel) on a corner in the mountains South of Denver. This is the place Duane had an encounter with the owner and his "bodyguard" type friend. There was shouting and the man told Duane to get out and never come back. I never knew what this was about. Duane placed me in front of him and told me to get in the car and not look back. I still want to know what this was all about. This manager/owner had told Duane the place had changed a lot since he was there. Was really friendly and showed us one of the room he had redone use reproductions and some of the old things to make it like it used to be. Got the impression a lot of famous people had stayed there...they mentioned the name of one - my mind won't remember that part. Yet, these 2 guys are shouting at each other shortly after this after seating me at the bar while they went to the corner to 'talk". The taller guy (good looking with medium light hair) acts like a body guard. The owner/manager is short and stout with dark hair and well dressed and with a very unusual ring on. There was the couple who played at a bar (think it was Longwood) forgot the name now. He played the steel guitar and I forgot what she played. THis was the couple who sent the gold painted Screw driver after they left to travel their life in a motor home or travel trailer. Still have that screw driver - from ANYWHERE ELSE USA. Rick and Elaine. How can one man know so many individuals from so many places and no one remembers him? Don't know why I think I have to tell all of this - no one cares. The 40th Anniversary and Cooper was not mentioned in any news articles or programs other than in the N.W. Cooper is NO longer of interest to the rest of the world. Georger, did you ever find out what kind of products they produced and for who. You were really eager to have that information, but you never posted anything about what you found - if there was anything to find. Duane definitely worked for them in 1970 and I have the W-2 and the income tax report. I will appreciate anything anyone can provide about Duane's past. One guy has been really throwing question at me - most of which I can't answer. Number one I don't know who he really is and besides that he wants "scans". This guy has NO IDEA that I have Dumb Blonde Sydrome and have NO idea how to scan a document. I also don't want to share documents that were found by Doug Pasternac - that just does NOT seem fair, but since it has been 15 yrs what do you guys think. It is just the prison records and his service records (they are really faded). No Jefferson was NOT one of the records he was able to obtain - NO ONE and I mean NO ONE got to those until the FBI placed them in public records and then they read Duane Weber / John Collins. This always rubbed me the wrong way. THEY COMMUTED JOHN COLLINS - NOT DUANE WEBER. Therefore why did the FBI wait until the master records on that prison are destroyed to tell me I could get them on line. What was online was nothing. This is when I wish you allowed P.M.'s Duane's exwife told me about an Italian man in Kansas who befriended Duane and HELPED him get the job with Pyramid Life insurance as John Collins. When Duane "F-ed" in 1966,he got really upset because Duane was doing a good job and making decent money...evidently the guy had personal contacts with the managers at Pyramid Life. The FBI never verified Duane's or John's employment with Pyramid Life, but there are still survivors of that relationship who should have been interviewed by the FBI, but the FBI never approached them. The most important one with the most exposure and in an age group that would allow her story to have been supported is now deceased. The post about the bakery deliverly boy was reason for my mind to revisit the story told to me by Duane's ex or lady of the day. I never knew who this Italian was - other than he had a restaurant in the same area Duane worked in for Pyramid Life. That one reply seemed odd to me - because it was someone following this case who had a history in Kansas. I really believed the FBI screwed up by NOT investigating Duane's past as John Collins - or was it deliberately ignored. A guy who delilvered pastries in Ks, Duane lived in Ks and was given access to a job by a major insurance company called Pyramid Life Insurance. A company who when I contacted them said their files had be ex-punged. Myself having been married even before Duane to another insurance man who made his living in the insurance industry - knew that the man should have been able to put me in touch with retired agents who might have had old pictures or have kept fliers or award presentations. Phoenix Jones You got to be kidding - a real Spiderman! I will be sitting at home wearing his pinky ring - the Pyramid and with a bottle of wine - telling the world to go to Hell! I might even get pretty drunk (only takes 1/2 a bottle of cheap wine). Maybe I should take his ashes and throw them into the Gulf....would rather they be put in WA. That is where he belongs. The N.W. was a happy memory for him - the small towns and places he took me to and told me about. There was a smile on his face - a memory of happy times. His nightmare was the dream he had in 1978. The night he talked in his sleep. "I left my prints on the Aft Stairs" "I'm going to die" and then nothing but a blood curdling scream then he was up and trembling fixing himself a brandy and swallowing some pills. He told me Aft Stairs was the stair way in a jail. A county jail he had spent a couple of months in because he got in trouble with a couple of other guys when he was a young man. OH! How gullible I was. He spent the next 17 yrs - trying to be a respectful citizen and making a decent living. There were incidents as I have explained before when I caught him doing things unacceptable during the first couple of yrs of our marriage. It was on the coast of Fl when I caught him doing something really bad in 1980. I told him to take me back to AL and he did and I started to pack-up - even called to rent a U-haul. On bended knee he asked me to stay and I will never forget the tears that streamed down his fact that morning. He promised never ever to do anything like that again. In a way I am glad I said yes, because he did turn around his life after that. This is when he made the efforts to become what he became. He applied himself to being a better person and became a honest providor and we became a good team. Of course in those last 2 yrs - he slipped a little. Taking Kool-aid just to keep in practice - it was NOT like we could not afford the Kool-aid. Kool-aid was cheap. I remember how he took them out of his pocket presenting them to me like they were a gift with that mischievous smile on his face. On that one particular visit to the store - we were together. He had done this right in front of me and I didn't see him do it. After work the next day I stopped by to talk to the manager of the store and told him about this. They already knew - but he was so loved by the community they just looked the other way. The manager of the store told me a story I didn't know about Duane and one I haven't told. Perhaps I have forgotten to tell the good things he did in his life. The store management had also witnessed Duane paying for items a mother with a child could not pay for. Another time giving a child something his mother made him put back. It was the tender moments like this when Duane gave back...he was loved by everyone who knew him during the yrs from 1980 until his death in 1995. Had I not witnessed what he was capable of in 1980 I would not have believed the stories an ex-wife and others told me about Duane. Maybe the time had come for him to grow-up or to make amends for the food he may have taken out of the mouths of children in his early yrs when he stole wallets and purses. I do NOT condone what Duane was - but I did give him a chance and I forgave him. He could not right the wrongs he did - but, he would spend the rest of his life trying to do the right thing. The word COMPETITION is defined at Dictionary.com as follows: 1. the act of competing; rivalry for supremacy, a prize, etc. 2. a contest for some prize, honor, or advantage: I do not believe I took you out of context. You may have made a mistake and "uttered" it out of context. It brings to mind what one of our professors said to us. Never say anything to anybody that you will regret, truth or not. Once it is said, you can not take it back. It will always be remembered and used to form a lasting opinion of your character. Vickie I don't need to argue with anyone - I am too tired for that. I never took anything other than when they flew me to WA (my flight and hotel) in 2001, but NO one payed my phone bills like JT claimed. Gray bought my dinner when he was here and so did another guy who did a clip (a sandwich). That is all. If someone paid my phone bills they need to produce some receipts - didn't happen. I knew that long long ago....but, he usually got his 2 cents worth in by proxy - That is who I referred to as the Puppet Master! and I did not know this was a competition. I thought it was an investigation into finding the identity of the person who hijacked flight 305 on the eve of Thanksgiving 40 years ago. This makes a lot of sense....The one with the most stories......WINS. Screw any actual evidence, such as fingerprints or DNA. I want to know...What is the prize? Is it monetary compensation? Fame and fortune? Taking me out of context Vickie. I always wonder what angle these guys are coming up with. JT, Grey, Dirk, Cook, Bruce and anyone who is writing about Cooper. I do NOT try to counter what they say - nor do I use what the say - but, what if someone came up with a connection (a solid connection between suspects). Anyone interested in Cooper explores all of the research by anyone doing it. The mistake the FBI may have made was looking at each suspect individually, but I look at it all. I study every suspect until there is nothing left shared with me that fit things I have or have been told. Example Bruce interviewed a woman whose name might connect back to Weber. First name was Lillian....there was a Lillian in Duane's back ground in WA. I was a little out of it the night I spoke to him and wish he would email me his Lillians exact spelling and I will send my Lillians exact spelling, but I don't know exactly where she lives - but some place I think on the OR/WA line. If he would call me when I have that file in my hand - it might help. I am getting very feeble minded lately and have to have the file in my hands. Had heard it was really off beat and not something I would be interested in, but this friend gets the channel and was listening to it on the way home the other day. She sort of likes thing like that, but I have always avoided them. The thing was they were advertising the show for Sunday night and promising NEW information on the ID of Cooper. Was just curious what the blankety blank it was all about. I figured Cook was working another angle now....just thought maybe someone caught it and knew what it was all about. Just keeping an eye on the competition - he has been really quiet in the last few months. Thought maybe this had to do with whatever he is up to. Someone posted something about a Festival or some event in Oregon. It was supposed to be today - anyone have any idea how that went. I would think with the protestors being in Portland that might have put a damper on it...of course I do not even know what kind of Sunday event this was or where it was being held. Maybe Jerry was there. I got a call from a friend today who told me to listen to Coast to Coast tonight because she heard there was going to some new evidence coming out about Cooper. Well, where I live I can't get Coast to Coast. I tried on 2 old radios I had and NO GO. Oh well, maybe someone else listened to it and can tell me what it was all about. I told her that Coast to Coast was Galen Cook's gig and I could not imagine what new EVIDENCE he might have to present. She was surprised to know I had talked to him LOTS over the yrs and kept every one of the EMAILS we exchanged...just encase I ever had to defend myself. I maybe the only one in this thread who has the book and has read it. I received my copy in the mail - never knew who sent it. JT claimed to know the author, but when I traced the book back to a publishing company it was extinct - the man I reached said HE did not know who wrote it. The woman mentioned I never found. If I was not afraid of lawsuits I would publish some of the caricatures along with the real person I think the caricature is of. BUT, I can't do that.
