While I was already at the convention this past Thurs. through Sunday, I was planning on leaving tommorow at daybreak to go back for the weekend. I have a little over a 3 hour drive to get there and an answer on the JET would make the decision alot easier to make. Sure wish they would give an answer!

Late Thursday the 1st until evening of the 4th, then I got to work for a few days and be back (can't miss the JET) Thurs night until Sunday evening.

Started out with a quiz before the commercial break, "Can you breathe at terminal velocity?" type of questions. They came back on saying yes, it is possible if you need to, but at those speeds you can absorb O2 through the skin. But falling through clouds can cause suffocation...yada yada. The thing that cracks me up the most is that the narrator has jumped before on a National Geographic special they had with footage from the WFFC (it's actually on Pilotdaves server)
-
OMFG! Did you catch the stuff about breathing in freefall? I was waiting for the narrator to say it was a joke.
-
I noticed the same thing with the demo 150 that was sent out to me.

Were your risers twisted up down to your cutaway housings (if so do you have hard cutaway housings in your risers?), or was the cutaway just difficult due to the g-loading being applied to the three rings? Just curious

Well, I guess I am lucky I haven't had any problems with UPS...For the past two days I have been tracking my demo canopy through FedEx. I knew that they would not leave it at my house since it requires a signature, an nobody would be there but I planned on going to the airport's FedEx hub to pick it up this evening since they said it would be back there between 5-6PM. (They claimed they had to at least make one delivery attempt when I called them to tell them to just hold it there). Okay, no biggie. I run the tracking number before I come home from work today to see if they attempted and it said "Package left at address other than recipient" and gave a name of the person who signed for it...thinking "Who the F% is that? I don't know them" Left work cussing and hoping they left something on my door telling me WHERE it was dropped. Sure enough it was left at a neighbors house. Needless to say I was a bit worried, FedEx did this to me one other time and after calling them trying to find where my package was dropped they just had a name and no address and said they would have to see if the driver knew where it was left at, the package showed up 3 days later on my step....never did find out who had it. It was also not even close to what a canopy is worth!

Just clipped from several posts here already this pretty much fits for myself. "In my case it's kind of weird because I'm not really bouncy & I got pretty good grades in school." "I get bored *really* easily. I have a really bad habit of tuning out in conversations..."

Latest confirmed edition to jump ship lineup for WFFC
Craig replied to PhillyKev's topic in The Bonfire
So, how much is the ticket...I couldn't find the price on the WFFC page. Nevermind, looks like it may be 49.00. And maybe not there during the days I will -
Interesting, I was listening to, in my opinion, a very expierenced camera flyer this past weekend and he said almost the same thing. More along the lines of it's not "if" but "when"....some day you will fall into a formation.

Seems not to be happening anymore

Our DZO has about 100 reserve rides thus far. He made a joke about it last year saying somthing about earning his "C" for reserve rides after a hard pull on a pullout someone packed for him...although he has done alot of test jumping for the military.
-
In my opinion it should be no different than any other ascent and jump except for the mode of transportation and the "dead" air on exit...care to say why you decided to do so?
-
I'm with Phree on this. In the plane I do my best not to lean against anything with my pin covers and protect my hackey when moving in the plane or there are jumpers moving around me. If I am unsure about the condition of my pin(s) I will ask someone who I feel is knowledgeable with the rig I have. As a side note to the discussion don't be afraid to tell someone who requests a gear check with unfirmilar gear/flaps that you don't feel comfortable with checking them, I have had to do this once myself. Also if I find something that needs fixing I will tell the jumper what I want to do, i.e. seat pin fully...fix bridle, close riser cover etc. so they know what prodding is going on back there.

Ha, also it looks like he is coming in downwind as well from the grass blowing at the roadside...likely didn't make it much easier.

I am attaching a screenshot of what has shown up on my end several times when clicking to view a thread. Also I have noticed sometimes the "NEW" does not show up on new posts, unless I have done somthing on my side to mess this up...

Looks like the right toggle might be unstowed and the canopy is spinning in the that direction as well. It is hard to tell but I don't see any excess brake line either on that side so???
-
First off I don't know alot about Hornets since I don't own one but.... On my Tri the instructions say not to roll the nose, if I do I found that the end of my openings were more brisk (like snivelsnivel pop) than if I follow the instructions and just fold the three outer cells in. Are you getting careless with the slider placement? Line stows? I have been slammed twice in about 200 jumps on my canopy, both resulting in cussing and wishing I was on the ground pronto with a sore neck and back to follow. First time I am not really sure what I did wrong, and second time I learned flaking between the C and D lines is a good idea and not worth the time saved by not. It does suck though on sever jumps thereafter when it is time to throw out and you are just waiting for another slammer. Personally I would go back and make sure I was following the manufacturers instructions and if in doubt have a rigger check the canopy for trim problems or damage which may be causing the hard openings.

Don't know of any cure for this but I can tell you that the same thing happens to my lines/guide rings when riding in brakes like you describe.

I'd say that the actual docking on another jumper to me is a bit more freaky since you are going to fly your canopy into someone elses backside. Especially after I hit him but he was unable to keep ahold of my canopy and get feet in the lines, it kinda bounced off and shook around. When he came around to dock on me I felt better since he has expierence...I guess I was more worried with coming in too hot and wrapping him. In any event it is just wierd as hell flying canopies in close proximity when in the past it has been like "stay the f@$& away from me". After you are all docked up it is really cool and a little more realxed, by about 2,500ft though I'm realizing were getting lower and am ready to drop or be dropped.
-
Well, I was invited on some CRW jumps this past weekend. Sat. I tried to dock on the expierenced CRW jumper but was a bit nervous as well as a bit floaty so it didn't come together, then he came in to dock on me and bam...grabbed the nose and wrapped the feet in his lines and we were stacked. Today we got a 4 way going and it was MY job to dock on the last person, I had my doubts that I could do it and the first try I was coming in too high. Second try approach a little lower and float it up and come in slowly and made the dock. Top guy releases and comes in behind me to dock and made it on the second try. It is kinda freaky at first but damn I didn't know this could be all that fun....plus three of us qualified for the 4 stack award....all in all way cool not to mention learned alot about my canopy. Sorry about hijacking the thread but I thought someone might want to hear.

Is Your Hand Deploy Pilot Chute Correctly Made?
Craig replied to billbooth's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just FYI my Mirage, built in Oct. 2001 is made to the specs. Bill suggested above....the tapes are on the bias. -
"gee, I am falling really fast towards this really hard surface" looking what I thought was far distance below at a jumper still in freefall as I am at 3k and deploying.... "ummm, you can pull NOW!" "Shit, thats not right!" [looking back at PC in tow] thoughts directly thereafter.... "dammit, this is not happening my first reserve ride on my first jump on my new rig the spot was long hopefully I can make it back shit here goes look red reach red look sil...[main bag comes off back and deploys]....fukin A WooHooYeahBaby that was close!" Amazing what you can think of in a matter of a couple seconds. Would have owed lots of beer for that one too.

This weekend we built a 6 way hybrid. During the dirtdive the legstrap grips were brought up but it was decided on the chest strap grips. So, a three way base launched and held upper arm grips. The three hangers come in on their bellies and fly into their slots on the three way and reach under for grips on the chest straps (one grip on the person to the right and one on the person to the left)..and it was keyed for the three to swing under into a sitfly. Worked out and was a fun dive, not to mention my first hybrid (I know...BEER). On the ground the hangers said it was a little work to get the grips but not too bad. It would have been nice to get video outside the dive but it was only from jumpers within the dive so it didn't show much as far as the building process.
