You won't vote for someone based on a single issue but you will vote against them based on a fleeting moment? Uh, yeah. If I have to explain then you wouldn't understand.

Great table! Good use for an old "Y" block. I wonder if 'ol what's-his-name still has that blowed up 406 Rodeck....

so, this rare moment alone convinced you to vote for Bush? I think he was saying Kerry's plastic response truned him away from Kerry. The classic example of how a single phrase can have an impact was Reagan's "There you go again". This past Fall, I voted for Bill Glass (D) for US House. That is exactly what my point was. I voted for Bush in 2000, but when 2004 came along I balanced each candidate and, for me, Kerry had a ever so slight edge on Bush, so my vote was his to lose. Which he did in one fleeting moment. I don't vote along party lines. It just so happens that most of the candidates I agree with are Repubs. I also never vote for a candidate based on a single issue, but rather the overall picture. And I have never voted for a candidate that I agreed with on everything, simply because there never has been one.

Never had to have someone tell me. I can get passed-out-drunk and still remember. Worst thing I did drunk (it was all the alcohol's fault! ) involved a bowling ball, a 2 mile stretch of downhill four lane road in town complete with several stoplights, and a bank at the bottom. oops. Luckily for me that was almost 30 years ago...statute of limitations is great!

Though most of my ideals fall along the same lines as the Republican party, I am not opposed to crossing the fence if a worthwhile candidate happens to be there. Such was the case in the last presidential election. Kerry wasn't perfect. In fact, he was far from it. I just considered him to be the better of two less-than-stellar candidates and was fully prepared to cast my vote for him in the fall election. However, during a debate, President Bush had a rare moment of looking relaxed and competent when talking about his religious beliefs. Kerry, sensing that, tried to imitate Bush's sentiment and, to my eyes anyway, looked as phony and insincere as any politician I had ever seen. Whether he appeared that way because he was uncomfortable talking about religion or just because he wasn't prepared is unknown to me, but at that instant he lost my vote. Anyone else had a similar experience? Let's try and keep to the subject.

Try "fiddle-dee-dee". -
Pretty sad state of affairs when people think it necessary to reward others for doing what they should be doing anyway. A neighbor I grew up with didn't miss a day-not one day-through 13 years of public school and four years of college.

Several years ago my dad had his gall bladder removed. He had to meet with the anesthesiologist (sp) before hand. Good thing he did since the doctors writing was so poor everyone but my dad and the doc thought it was a hernia operation.

Sounds like your business relationship hasn't turned out as well as you had hoped. I know how frustrationg (to say the least) that can be. Have you thought of going back into business for yourself? Since you kept your cunsulting business going for 8 years you know what the pitfalls are and how to avoid them, as well as having contacts now that you didn't have the first time you went solo. Give it a shot!

Not sure what all the details of your situation are, but having been raised in our families business I know that things aren't always as they seem. My dad and I were always the last to schedule our vacation time after all the employees put in for theirs. Some years I finished the year with unused vacation time which I could not carry over to the next year. I remember one year my dad bought a 1-year-old truck, my mom bought a 2-year-old car, and I bought a brand new GMC pickup for personal and business use. Damn if we didn't catch hell from the guys in the shop! All we heard was how we all got new vehicles and they didn't get any raises. They settled down once I pointed out that the pickup I had traded in was the newest of any that my parents and I had replaced, and it had over 250,000 miles on it. Being a small business owner is not a very glamorous job. It is 24/7 and the stress can wreck your nerves. Wait until your boss gets back, then approach him about a raise. He will be in a much better state of mind, and easier to deal with.

Why can't we just get one system of f'n temperature?
willard replied to turtlespeed's topic in The Bonfire
Whoa there chief! Lemme think about this. I know that putting zero on the scale makes sense, but what else is so magical about the Kelvin scale? Why couldn't I have a scale called "quade" where zero is the same as Kelvin and 100 the triple point of water? Wouldn't that have made a whole F-load more sense than 273.16K? One requirement of any scale for it to be widely accepted is that it be easily duplicated with a minimum of equipment. Kelvin meets that requirement since it's two most commonly used points are freezing and boiling of water in standard atmospheric conditions. These conditions can easily be duplicated almost anywhere. If the equipment isn't available then adjustments can be made using known formulas. A thermometer marked in Kelvin can be made in your own kitchen. The one descriptive point on a Kelvin scale not easily duplicated (never has been) is 0. But we don't use that point very much in our every day lives, unless you do research at those temps. The triple point of water is not easily duplicated, and is very sensitive to any change in either pressure or temperature. Even then you would still need a second point to measure to get a scale, other than the aforementioned 0 Kelvin. -

Interesting article. It would be hard to disagree with very much in it. Are man's activities contributing to global warming? Absolutely. Are they the only factor? Absolutely not. They are only a small but very preventable part. Alternative energy sources are out there, we just need to make them feasable. Our oil, gas, and coal won't last forever and neither will our environments tolerence of their emmisions. As challenging as it is to develope these alternative sources, it will be even more challenging without the benefit of the energy sources we have now. The climate on this planet has been through more changes then we could ever imagine and it will continue to change regardless of what we do. We need not fear of harming the planet, she's been here for a few billion years and she'll get along just fine after mankind is long forgotten. But while we are here we are stewards of our environment and as such have the responsibilty to not harm it for ourselves or other forms of life that we share it with.

Kelvin makes the most sense for scientific use, but for normal temps we see from day to day Celsius is easier and actually has some sense of relativity to it. Added bonus is that these two are easily interchanged. -
C'mon over and we'll work on it together. Bring some whipped cream. And some cherries. And chocolate syrup.
