The Repuglican Party continues to be a hypocritical joke
willard replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
Clinton got a blow job. Gingrich got a blow job. I even got a blow job. But of the three only Clinton lied to a grand jury about it. It is the fact that he lied that matters, not what he lied about. -
Rabbits are passive creatures and spend their entire lives in a state of fear whenever they leave their burrow and most times in it. I, for one, refuse to be a rabbit. I eat meat and am willing and able to defend myself. Are you? Are you suggesting that not carrying a gun makes one a rabbit? No, but your statements here and in the past suggest that anyone who does is a paranoid nut. What am I supposed to be afraid of? Whatever you choose to be afraid of. WHat are you so afraid of that you feel the need to carry a gun? For starters, the kind of punks that tried to drag me out of my truck last summer just because I was on "their street". Once they saw I was not easy prey they decided they would share "their street". I don't always feel the need to carry, but i did that day and I have no regrets. This is only newsworthy for the same reason that "man bites dog" is newsworthy. On a typical day in the USA some 40 people are killed by guns and no-one starts threads for each of those. And it is anyones guess how many lives are saved by guns on each of those days. Mine has been saved twice. Once away from home, once at home. Well, I see your point. Southside Chicago is much safer to walk and drive around than Dublin, OH. And I see your point. Much easier to assume location and situation than to ask. Some method of confirmation you have there, John. Hope you do better in your lab. I was assaulted last summer in Cleveland, at E.108th & Saint Clair. Not a nice part of town. I was there making a delivery. If you feel secure walking around depending upon the kindness and mercy of others for your safety far be it from me to try to make you carry so much as a sharp stick. Likewise, if I am in a location where I feel my best and only protection is myself, then it is of no concern of yours whether i decide to go armed or not. Here in Dublin I feel plenty safe and do not carry. On the east side of Cleveland...you bet your ass I'm carrying.

sure, but the real benefit is merely the will to act, the rest is just skills training but my post is about the surprising commonality of people talking about how they'd lose control in a similar situation and they act proud of it, or like it's a burden to their conscience. Here, three scenarios: 1 - (Means well, no control) Young Ed is walking along and see's a girl being attacked by a guy with a knife. Her forearms are getting pretty cut up. His eyes dilate, blood pumps faster, his vision gets a bit wavy, his breath increases. He loses control in outrage and throws himself headlong at the guy. He gets cut up pretty bad, and accidently hits the girl in the head with his knee during his tackle of the assailant. He doesn't really remember any of it before he some passerbys are pulling him off off of the assailant - he was literally choking the guy to death. Another passerby sits on the assailant until the cops come and make the arrest. The girl is ok, but cut up and she has a huge bruise on the side of her face. She's still grateful. Ed prepares for the civil suit from both the assailant and, eventually, the girl. He wonders what really happened. He should have run away once the assailant was down, now he has to deal with the aftermath. 2 - (Trained, maybe ex military) - Young Ed is walking along and see's a girl being attacked by a guy with a knife. Her forearms are getting pretty cut up. His eyes dilate, blood pumps faster, his vision dials in, his breathing slows and he starts taking deeper breaths as he assesses the problem simultaneously moving in and to the side of the assailant. He disarms the guys fairly quickly, he still gets cut, but he expects it and doesn't get anything serious. The guy is on the ground, gasping from the cheap and efficient shots to the neck and the groin he received once the knife was thrown aside. Another passerby sits on the assailant until the cops come and make the arrest. The girl is ok, but cut up. Ed takes her to the side and gives first aid. She's grateful. The assailant won't have any permanent injuries, he'll make the court date. It'll really hurt to swallow for a couple days. Ed goes to work after giving a clear statement to the cops. 3 - (not trained, but thinking) Young Ed is walking along and see's a girl being attacked by a guy with a knife. Her forearms are getting pretty cut up. His eyes dilate, blood pumps faster, his vision gets a bit wavy, his breath increases. He gets control of himself and acts pretty quickly. He runs in and tackles the guy away from her. Rolling away from the guy immediately, he gets up, notes the cut on his arm and gets between the guy and the girl. They stand and stare at each other, the assailant wasn't expecting to confront someone prepared for him. Passerbys see someone act and remember they always promised themselves they'd act. A little embarassed they didn't at first, they also come and stand with Ed. Now the assailant sees a group of protectors. He runs. The cops have 10 descriptions to confirm the identity of the guy - who the girl knew. He's arrested a block away. {{4 - Ed has his concealed gun - he tells the guy to get off the girl and stand still til the cops come. the cops come}} They all three acted admirably, and did what they could. But who would you WANT to be here? Who should you PLAN to be here? Who do you admire the most? Who do you admire the least? Who would you REALLY want as your wingman in a tough neighborhood? Admire most...Ed #3. Though he was unarmed and thinking rationaly he was still willing to step up and help someone by putting himself at risk. Admire least...Ed #1. Reacted totally out of rage with no control. A very unpredictable person. Best wingman....Ed #2. Has training, knows how to use it, how much to use, and probably also carries. Next best wingman is Ed #4.

I was a litle younger, but remember it well. The state of international relations was a lot different then. Also, though Cheney's actions are less then honorable, they pale in comparison to what Agnew had done. Any accusations of illegal activity by Cheney are still up for debate, whereas Agnew's crimes were pretty much cut and dried. If we had a pres or vp resign every time they did something suspicious, we wouldn't have anyone in office for more than a few months.
-
A resignation at this point could do more harm than good. With only two years left in his term and a congress working against him Cheney will be more or less a lame duck, same as Bush. A Pres or VP of a country resigning midterm is a very serious deal, one that can have far reaching consequences (good and bad) in foreign relations. It's not the same as, say, the COE of a large corp stepping down.

"The Lord tells me he can get me out of this mess, but He's pretty sure you're fucked." From the movie "Braveheart"

Soem pretty cool stuff there. I kept thinking about all those little bones in the feet meeting the hard concrete. It has to take a toll after a while, no?
-
And maybe get some publicity for the possible upcoming movie? They wouldn'y do that, would they?

They killed Captain America! BASTARDS!!!

I find it disturbing as well that nobody else stepped up to the plate. The guy is armed with a knife, not a rocket launcher. He is trying to kill someone with that knife. It doesn't take much effort to distract him from his victim...a rock, a can of soup, a shopping cart, anything can be used as a weapon. Barring a weapon you go in unarmed and do what you can to give the woman a chance to get away. Sure there's a better than 50/50 chance you're going to get cut. But if nobody helps than someone is sure to die. (Forget the fact it's in a parking lot full of cars that are able to push him away from his victim). What is disturbing to me is that society has got to the point where people are no longer willing to help someone else if it requires risk and sacrifice.

That's dangerous stick to skydiving Ever been a foot? I had two flats coming home on my son's pickup this Summer and I dropped it off at a nearby Tire store. I walked the 4 miles home in 108 degree weather down a main street in Tulsa. Not one person picked me up. What a bunch of weenies! Christian town ... yeah, right. They must have never read the story of the Good Samritan. Maybe you shouldn't have worn your rig and helmet.
-
I HATE when that happens! Something I learned after moving "in town" is that there seems to be an inverse relationship between the cost of the car and the intelligence of the driver that holds true maybe 75% of the time. It's never the beat up Cavalier or Fiesta that cuts you off or tailgates, it's the Volvo, Mercedes, Audi, etc. that causes problems. Anyone else notice that?

A friend owns an apartment buidling in Cleveland. There is a small city park behind where several homeless hang around. He pays them a small fee (I'm thinking $50/week) to keep the parking area and park cleaned up. They also keep an eye on the vehicles parked there. The situation works well. Cheapest security system I know of.

you mean like 95% of all interchanges? I was thinking more along the lines of the 71-270 interchange on the north side of Columbus. Taffic from 270E exiting to 71N must share the same lane as traffic from 71N entering 270E in one short lane. Thankfully major modifications are underway to eliminate that mess. I would hardly consider 95% to be of that type. Just a guess but I would think most interchanges have traffic exit the highway before merging traffic enters.

They best stick with their old one....a white flag.

Cheap Alternative To Ballistics Gelatin Needed
willard replied to warpedskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Cats. Or modeling clay. It's kinda heavy, kind of a pain, but it does the job if you are willing to slice it with a wire after each shot to see the results. -
nonsense, you're just trying to protect this Republican, good-ol-boy, network private pilot there were two of them, it was a conspiracy But everyone knows small single engine airplanes are left-leaning liberals, that is proven by needing right rudder on take-off.
-
The same thought crossed my mind. During my pilot training it was drilled into our heads to look out the FRONT of the aircraft, not the side. By fixating on something out the side windows the pilot does exactly what you described. I'd add that it is normal to reduce airspeed while sight-seeing, making the situation worse. There is a saying that a low-time pilot taking pictures while flying usually gets a real good photo of his crash site. I think the investigators have their hands full on this one unless something turns up to prove intent, such as a suicide note, etc.

The patrol car's "black box" recorded that at one time that night, Cullins was driving at 95 mph, but the device did not record how fast the car was traveling when it struck Barker. There we go, that'll ring some clatity. Of couse he's a good ole boy Republcian cop, so I understand what you're saying. hitting a 400-600lb deer isn't the same as hitting a 150lb human. It would take a lot more reconstruction than just a deer-hitting cmparison to figure how fast, ect. Waiver? Here it is just calleda default judgement, a finding of responsible is entered and a fine sanctioned. I think that we've just failed to kill people with our cars driving recklessly AS THE INTERNAL POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS JUST ESTABLISHED. So pour all teh suga on this that you want, but the family has finally drawn attention to this. So if there were no other charges then there must have been no other crime committed? WTF ....and OJ really was innocent too, huh? The way I interpreted it the cop was responding and putting the public at risk, driving 95mph just shortly before hitting the kid. But I know, can we please have a pass for the good ole boy Republican cop? The deer I hit that time might have weighed out at 125 lbs. soaking wet. It was a yearling and it happened in the fall. My God if I hit a deer that weighed 600 pounds I wouldn't be here today. The cop was a republican? Where did it say that? I must be getting old and missing important stuff like that. Let's see, his recording unit showed he had been up to 95 mph sometime that night. Where did you get "shortly before"? Coulda been on another call maybe? Even hours before the incident? The investigators determined he was doing 50 mph when he struck the victim. Hmmmm....I wonder how fast he was going when he struck the victim? Damn I keep missing those details! Maybe, just maybe,..stay with me, Lucky, cause I'm taking a wild guess, but maybe it is somehow remotely possible that the cop was driving along and an alcohol influenced (not neccessarily drunk) pedestrian stepped out in front of his cruiser?
-
I hit a deer once at 60 mph and got stopped well before I got to where the deer landed. I can see how the victim ended up 160+ feet from the impact site. Not showing up in court for a speeding ticket is very common. It's called a "waiver". I've paid a few of those myself, as I'm sure a lot of other people here have. When was he charged with 2nd degree murder? I see in the article he was originally charged with criminal speeding, but I missed reading about any other charges. The way I interpreted the article is the officer was responding to a call and a pedestrian tried crossing the street in front of him.

Is buying your children rabbits encouraging them to keep pets?

Rabbits taste like...well,...rabbits. -
Always someone trying to make a buck off of someone else's tragedy.

Since she hates everyone the same, does that mean she isn't prejudiced?
