  1. I remember seeing those pics a while back when they got busted. Pretty slick operation.
  2. ...and the vast left-wing conspiracy is covering it up.
  3. Million Dollar Baby If your eyes didn't even get moist then you have no soul.
  4. I always say: If you have to go out, go out spectacular!
  5. I am always amazed at how those guys can keep things flowing with any sort of order. The conversations between controllers and pilots is always one step from turning into a "Who's on first" routine. I have nothing but respect for them.
  6. I guess it's not a degree but I have 40 credit hours and a certificate from a college when i went thru thier truck driving school.. I worked in the medical field and hauled liquid oxygen to pt's homes to fill thier tanks.. Joe My bro pulls 11,000 gallon LPG tankers. What is needed for that job can't be taught in any school...a higher than normal amount of common sense, situational awareness, and patience. Plus it helps that nothing rattles him.
  7. Liberals have brains? That in itself is remarkable.
  8. I guess one good thing about trucking is that the really stupid drivers weed themselves out in short order. Hopefully they just get too many tickets or dumb one vehicle accidents and nobody gets hurt. One driver I met I knew would not last long. He knew for a FACT that the more weight a truck was carrying the faster they could stop. Uh, yep, here's yer sign buddy!
  9. "We're just gonna cut off the top of yer head, poke around with a stick and see if we can't find that dad-burn clot."
  10. Ok, I voted. So if you win do we all get to drink from that fountain?
  11. you can see in the pics... 4 signs - 1)the height on light rail 2) the height indicated on the top part of the bridge 3) a no trucks visual sign 4) a worded no trucks sign. plus any truckers driving through chicago should know that they are not allowed on LSD (not the drug, they can still do that_ *edit - looks like there are 5 signs.. another "no trucks" on the top part of the bridge too. His dispatcher also should have known not to send him there. Of course, he could have ignored his dispatchers directions and taken a shortcut. Then, when he saw all the signs, figured they were for other people and didn't apply to him. With all the signage around I would be surprised if he still had a job after the mess he caused. One time a driver wanted to confirm directions to his next drop, so we gave him directions around a low clearance bridge. He ignored us (to save about two miles) and wedged his truck under the bridge. We knew what happened when we heard it hit. Nice thing was that we got the job of fixing his trailer...cha-ching!
  12. Cool name! So when he gets older you can say, "Guinness! Get me a Guinness!" and he will.
  13. That happens a lot. Our shop repaired/salvaged many trailers that were low-bridged over the years. The causes are pretty simple. Either the proper signage wasn't in place to give advance warning (or was difficult/impossible to see), the driver didn't know the height of his trailer, or the driver was given bad information. In any case it is the sole responsibility of the driver to know if his rig will make it through. This driver has no excuse for what happened here. He just plain screwed up. My brother has been a professional trucker for over 25 years and has app. 3.5 million miles without a single accident. One thing he always complains about is the quality of new drivers on the road. The industry is so hard up for people to drive that intelligence is not even a consideration. Many new drivers can't even read a road map...no joke!
  14. Even after learning to skydive, canines still chase their tails.
  15. Power a small lightbulb with a lemon. Easy, clean, will run for days and the kids get a kick out of it.
  16. I've had a couple "litter runts" before and never regretted them. They are fighters (not in the mean sense) and have a toughness and resilience that can't be matched. I don't think his physical problem will be much of a problem at all. He has toughed it out this long and survived, so I'm willing to bet he can handle anything life throws at him. Great looking pup! What's his name? You could call him Sly, after Stallone. He had nerve damage to his face when born, that's why one side of his face sags.
  17. This may have some info for you. http://www.nawcc.org/
  18. Had a Boston Market frozen dinner tonight. I have to say it was one of the best I've ever had. Got to wondering how others prepare theirs?
  19. "That was my shoe squeaking. No, really, it was!"
  20. This guy was obviously intent on making sure the victim was dead, dead, dead. I question whether he would have been using a knife had not a gun been available. Theres a good chance he would have resorted to some sort of explosive device and ended up killing more than just three people. The gun was most likely illegally in his possession anyway, he was intent on murder, so what good would more laws have done?
  21. How dare you compare Michael Moore to rats and cockroaches. The hypocrisy of rats and cockroaches only goes so far. Show them at least some rspect.

    Big crystals

Does anyone know: is the composition of the water that will refill the caves such that the crystals would continue to grow, or would they be eroded? So much of our world is about stuff that used to be great but is now being worn away, either naturally or by the forces of mankind. It'd be neat to know we could preserve one small place in the world where something like this could (even on only an incredibly slow "geological" timeline) continue to be even greater a spectacle than it was when we found it. Elvisio "end speech" Rodriguez The cave was flooded by hydrothermal fluids. The relatively low number of crystals found points to them being formed in an environment of minimum oversaturation. The same fluids that formed the crystals are likely to flood the caves again. Whether the crystals will continue to grow after that or not is uncertain.
  23. A bullet proof vest of that stuff would be kinda heavy though.
