  1. "Gates of Fire" by Stephen someone or other. Story of the defence of Thermopylae by the Spartans. Stirring stuff... Sorry - no link but Amazon do sell it. My connection is too slow to hunt that down!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  2. I paid Sian 10 quid once to get my 5 jump old Spectre 170 done 'cos I was really pissed off with it! She felt really guilty afterwards though and promised me a free one... I have yet to collect... (pack job of course - what were you thinking!!) *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  3. I feel I really let myself down by not being able to agree to any of the drugs questions... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  4. Isn't there some sort of DNA information on the chips in the new design of US passport? I am not 100% clear on this but I know that from October this year we (UK citizens) have to get a visa to travel to the US unless we have the new design of passport (which is not available in UK until July 05!) All I know about that passport is that it has a chip in it which hold some kind (so I was told) of DNA information to help ID us. Overall it means that the cost of trips to the US just went up by $100... But on the topic, this would mean that our (any foreigner) DNA information would be available to law enforcement, and ultimately abuses of the system in the US... (if I am right?) *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  5. Currently sitting around the 165lb mark. Desparately trying to put some more on but every time I get stuck working hard and can't make it to the gym it floats off again... 5'11" and trying to make the magic 170lbs naked! Why downsize the canopy when it is cheaper to upsize the body?! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  6. Sure the war is over - Dubbya said so in what, April last year? I know I for one believe him! After all, we are all sitting out here drinking cold cold beers round the pool and working on our sun tans while we watch the journalists rehashing Schwarzenegger movies to put on the news! Yep - we're done here. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  7. I am aware of it... I agree with JohnRich's post about this - which would probably have been equally true if related to MI5 and MI6. Why can't they all just get along?! No contradiction necessary - you have made my point above. (my emphasis) I agree that it is unlikely that they are doing it on a very large scale, but it seems unrealistic to suggest that they are not doing it at all... Of course if we remove the legislation which allows them to get away with it we would also tie their hands when it comes to preventing terrorism... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  8. No sell out here. I am not that excited about being really rich so... as long as I have enough cash for jump tickets and the occasional kebab... It is as much a principle thing as being about skydiving... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  9. Nice post! Good to see humour on the 'Corner'!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  10. At what point exactly did you work for the CIA? Or any of the other numerous agencies at large? I certainly wouldn't like to make such sweeping statements about what national intelligence / counter intelligence agencies are up to... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  11. So off topic that it is risible... Its a pity that you guys could only afford canoes and rowing boats to get over here then? I mean surely thats the only reason you took three years to get to Britain? You were just lucky that we left you something to do... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  12. Welcome and hello!! Please remember that using an emoticon a day can save your sanity and ensure their survival!
  13. I don't want to be Mr. Cynical, but there are a lot of wet liberals in the English middle classes (yes, specifically English) who will be against anything! They never seem to actually have a workable solution though... These are the same type of people who have stopped British schools from celebrating xmas in order not to offend muslim / hindu kids. I am surprised to find a right winger (am I right?) like yourself quoting / agreeing with them. You want to ruin the comedy on our TV? Programmes like these just might save lives - have you taken that into consideration? One off - I feel sorry for him but you can't base policy on one case. UK shops reserve the right not to serve people that they don't want to anyway. Surely you would not want to take away the rights of the shopkeeper? We do not (in general) have such a culture of privacy in Britain as you seem to in the US. Just look at the cult of candid camera TV shows which feature on UK TV and are very popular. And actually, while I have carefully avoided Northern Ireland (a different issue), it does bring out another point: CCTV is one more tool in the war against terrorists. This is a battle which has been ongoing on NI and on mainland Britain for 30+ years and we have therefore equipped ourselves to fight it. The British public have made their views on the balance of freedom and privacy against security known at the ballot box time and again in that period. It appears that in the US the balance is different at the moment, but if more attacks (god forbid) happen there then perhaps the balance will shift there too. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  14. True - I think we should have a Coup - the drinkers coup!! DOWN WITH LICENCING HOURS!!!! Of course having used the words 'arsehole' and 'Blair' in the same sentence I am probably on an MI5 database now...! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  15. Light coloured grips really stand out on film and video, which helps with scoring, but also looks quite cool! My suit looks fairly subdued in real life but really stands out in shots like the attached... Its all good! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  16. Good call! How could I forget Ripley? She was hard core!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  17. I sort of prefer the first one - but I agree with Boosted, make the grips bright! Also unless you have a real cash flow issue then get the 2" grips and the option inseam grips. I didnt realise how important that it and now a little further on I am going to be buying a whole new suit! Lots of black is good because a lot of second hand rigs (unless you already have your own?) are black / dark blue, so they will match(ish)!!
  18. Ok, how bored am I? I have finally joined the '24' generation, and it is clear to me that Jack Bauer is so much tougher than anyone else on the screen (the Terminator doesnt count since he was a machine!) But I may be wrong... I also couldn't think of any more women (Barb Wire just didnt cut the mustard!) but I would love to be proved wrong... I have tried to keep this to characters who have been in more than one thing (apart from Nikita) or the field of choice would be too wide. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

    4-ways

I dont want to get to in depth on this because I am not exactly a jedi myself (yet) and BillVon has/will give you far better info. What I think I can safely do is tell you that my primary problem when learning, and still when jumping with new people, is getting nervous / worried about it. It is inevitable unfortunately. BUT I do my best flying when I just relax and let the muscle memory etc just do its thing. So try and relax a little and enjoy it! The easiest thing to sya, and a very hard thing to do. This is just what works for me and I maybe unusual so if BillVon contradicts me here then take his advice!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  20. Aha! The 'Evil Damion' 2-way gets one step closer!! Great going dude - keep it up! Frank. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  21. I followed the long haul truck route through Turkey an Eastern Europe once, its a long story. Suffice to say that I don't envy you!
  22. I only watch the major heavyweight title fights, down in the pub with friends... I have done it though - lots of fun! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

    4-ways

I reckon that along with backsliding, fall rate has to one of the hardest things to conquer - the good news is that if you have both floated and sunk out, then the correct fall rate is almost certainly within your reach with your current suit. Other than that the only thing I can suggest is more coached 2 way and 4 way with a coach who has video. A video debrief by someone who has jumped with you will be far more effective than anything anyone can try and describe in words on the forum. I would also say that at 34 jumps you are doing really well to even be trying 4-way so do not be discouraged!! Good luck and have fun.
  24. Let me guess, you have an XL Evo? I have the exact same problem, and deal with it exactly as Amazon describes but I have to admit that it is still not exactly comfortable. The way it has been explained to me, the shell is the same size for all the helmet sizes and it is the liner which changes. So the XL has a very thin liner... and instead of the Protrack being set into the liner and away from your skull, it is pressed right against your head. Now I don't buy a helmet without having tried it on WITH the protrack AND goggles (if necessary)... On the plus side, I am glad to know that this is not just me with my odd shaped head!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
