  1. I think its called the Julian Bakery. Its all about the apple pies in Julian.
  2. Did it snow as far down as Alpine?
  3. The Iditarod dogs? Accidents usually. Some from medical problems. Same as happens to human atheletes. Sounds about right. We see marathon runners get put down during races all the time. Just last week my grandma, who is diabetic and has alzheimer's was in this race where she and some other old ladies were pulling a refrigerator.........long story short, we had to put grandma down, but at least she was happy. We could see her smiling.
  4. A much smaller number than will die in the animal shelter during the same period of time. And they won't die of neglect, abuse or lack of care. I see. So, they just die of old age?
  5. That's before they die, right?
  6. Didn't mean to imply that Alaska is an undesireable place to live at all. In fact, it is on the top of my vacation list for places I want to go. That said, how many dogs will die in this race? This is about as big a deal in the lower 48 as jai-alai is in Alaska.
  7. Update: The teacher was reinstated. I don't think the school board can publicly disclose whether or not he was disciplined.
  8. I think if the problem was really between to MEN it could be solved in a manner that did not include something you would get suspended from grade school for doing. BOYS, on the other hand......
  9. I'll wager........... that anyone who lives far enough south to require a refrigerator for at least two months out of the year couldn't care less......
  10. Don't have time to scour for it right now, but I'll keep it in mind. Barry Bones was a 5-tool guy when he came up. Great BA, didn't strike out, hit opposite field and also stole a lot of bases. He was fast. Somehow, after playing for about 12 years, he suddenly put on 30 lbs of muscle in one off season. In his 30s no less, when all the guys around him are getting softer, slower, and weaker (older), somehow Bones packs on 30 lbs and starts hitting the equivalent of 3 previous years worth of homers every year. Roided up? Duh. Edit: Not to mention his personal trainer is going to prison for distribution of steroids and the place he worked was BALCO, whose founder has now admitted he was giving Bones steroids - the cream and the clear. Bones admitted taking them too. His defense was he thought it was flaxseed oil.
  11. Do you have to grow back the porn 'stache as a job requirement?
  12. Nice. I think it would be great if we could get some public service out of the people who just aren't meant to be in the military. Problem is, we'd have to pay them and give them health care and that's just that many more gov't. employees sucking up tax dollars. Looks good on paper, but I don't know if the return would be worth the cost.
  13. Only 10 yrs? Pussy. Seriously, the military is NOT a good idea for every one. I think a lot of kids in high school would have jumped all over the chance to "kind of take a year or two off" before college and be able do do something really constructive in the process - that did not entail being in the military. There are exceptions to that as well. I worked with a guy who was a full time college student at 16. Masters at 19 and Phd at 22. He works in pharmaceutical research. This is a man that is of better use to society in a lab curing cancer or something. This is a man we should be working to keep safe, not put in harms way or stifle his ability to contribute in the best way that he can.
  14. And what branch of the military are you currently in?
  15. So why was it clearly spelled out as a goal of Kerry's? Blues, Dave I believe he was advocating opportunity, not obligation. His deal was a social service program that people could do for 2 years and get money for college. It was billed as a way to serve, but not the military. Didn't ever hear a single detail about the proposition, so I chalked it up to election year politics: good idea that will never get done. FWIW - Opportunity=good; obligation=bad
  16. Thanks Bill! I guess I was hoping against hope this would turn into a slam dunk type of a situation (irt intelligence), but it obviously is less than that. I will continue to hope against hope that we learned our lesson with the last two invasions. I won't be holding my breath, just spending as much time as I can with my friends who are saying "Shit. Again? I just got back - for the second time".
  17. That gets pretty high marks on the unintentional humor scale. Ummm you may want to actually know what youre talking about...get an account at Janes...ok? This is one of the biggest turn offs of SC. Nobody gets the jokes. Lets face it, if you have to explain it, its just not funny anymore. Even worse is being called stupid by someone who didn't get the joke in the first place. Sheez.
  18. Bill, In english, can you give us your interpretation on where the Iranian nuclear program is currently and how long it will take them to make weapons grade material?
  19. That gets pretty high marks on the unintentional humor scale.
  20. I'm sure we and our allies will resort to using force as a last resort, so yes, I'm sure there will be some attempt at a diplomatic solution.
  21. This just in: Barry Bonds on steroids. Who'd a guessed? MLB has been turning a blind eye for so long I just gave up on baseball. My bold prediction is that exactly nothing will happen. He has never tested positive for a _banned_ substance, so what can they really do? Baseball sucks.
  22. Iraq apples to Iran oranges. Iraq: they said they didn't have it. weapons inspectors said they didn't have it. we invaded and proved them right. Iran: They have it. They claim they will use it. This is a very serious problem.
