The vent size wouldn't make any difference if the wings are airlocked. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Also, just like in canopy flight you should be able to show you can do certain things before getting a smaller canopy. I think this should be pushed more in wingsuiting. What would a list of necessary skills look like for wingsuiters prior to upsizing their suit? Like the wingsuit version of the flat turn? The wingsuit version of a downwind landing? The wingsuit version of a rear riser landing? The wingsuit version of a front riser approach? The wingsuit version of consistently landing near a target? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Also, I think people need to realize that at some point you don't really need to go any bigger. When considering someone's height and weight there is a certain point where there are diminishing returns. There is a reason that swoopers normally settle on a certain size and stay there. It isn't because they couldn't fly the smaller canopy, but it just isn't practical to go any smaller. I think this has an application in wingsuit flight. But maybe that is a separate discussion that has probably been beat to death. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

I agree with the idea of the student getting out first. I think it also helps that they don't feel crowded in the door or feel rushed with the instructor leaving first. In addition to this if you are getting video it can give a good perspective on their exit with you exiting after. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

I agree with the back-flying idea. I have hit my foot on the door on the way out of the Otter and when it happened I flew it out on my back and then transitioned to my belly. I also saw Butters in a nasty side spin where he was balled up, knees to the chest, but since his feet were still exposed to the relative wind and slightly offset it acted as a propeller. Eventually he arched out of it and righted himself. The point is the recovery techniques should be taught as a set of tools rather than a procedure. I will also echo the idea of more time spent on smaller suits. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

The "godfather" of swooping?
mnskydiver688 replied to AggieDave's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yeah, I started at the dropzone Visto used to jump at. Some of the stories floating around about him and his antics are pretty crazy. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
Your mastery of the english language constantly leaves me in awe, and the way you make such eloquent similes. Absolutely magnificent! Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

That happens on mine too. Another thing I have noticed is that for some reason even with the power on by LCD off the camera will still turn on when I open the LCD both if the Hypeye is plugged in and when it is not. However when the Hypeye is plugged in when I close the LCD it doesn't turn off, so I still have to use the Hypeye button. Some little quirks I have discovered. Also, I have realized the importance of buying a good memory card. A regular Memory Stick Pro Duo takes a lot longer than the internal memory. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Maybe the suits should have a Surgeon General's warning. Surgeon General Warning: Use of this product may cause reddening of the eyes and face. Also, may cause involuntarily loss of bodily control, which may result in extreme increases in humbleness. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Year End Video - Birds from the Midwest
mnskydiver688 replied to mnskydiver688's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Thanks Matt. Yeah I was wondering if Ed's comment might get more people to stop and take a peek. I can understand why people would normally skip over a vid. I am hoping next year I can integrate some after effects stuff in the credits and do some more cinematic edits so as to keep interesting. I am really considering getting a still camera as I am really liking working on the composition of shots and such. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
I was going to ask the same question. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Year End Video - Birds from the Midwest
mnskydiver688 replied to mnskydiver688's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Ha yeah you don't have to tell me twice. We only have about a month left before the plane goes back to its winter home and our season is over. Eh, gives me an excuse to head south. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
Year End Video - Birds from the Midwest

I posted a new video that was entered in the film festival at my DZ. Trying to get more interested in the nylon crack. I apologize if some of you are tired of the last song. Most people in the midwest haven't seen the other video it is featured on. Here it is http://www.skycanyonws.com/yearend.html Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
I don't know if you have done tandems out of a 182, but it can be interesting to get your arms around them and be able to grab their leg and lift it up. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

That is what I have been doing up until this point if I want so me web grade photos. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Your still stuck making a choice each jump if you are going to shoot stills or video even with the newest SLR's with video capability. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Frame grabs are different. Just because it says dual record doesn't mean it can do multiple frames per second or even every few seconds. Also there will most likely be a lag from when you trigger a still and when it actually gets taken. In skydiving this is no good. if you are going to spend the $1100 why not buy a CX100 and then a Rebel SLR. Would likely be around the same price and you would get better quality stills. Just my .02 cents. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Well I only have a Mac and Premier so I will just have to deal. It has been working fine for me so far, but then again I haven't really used an optimized system. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

After updating to Snow Leopard, Premier Pro CS4 is working a lot better for me when using AVCHD. One thing though would I see more significant performance improvements if I wasn't shooting in full 16Mbps quality and something more like 8Mbps? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

You all suck. Went the entire summer with no events under my belt. Probably when I get the time and money this fall everyone will be ready for a break. Just my luck. Well maybe I will see some of you this winter. Maybe. Have fun at M.O.A.B. wish I could be there, Purple or no Purple. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

I think he is referring to the requirement that to get a Strong rating you need a cutaway. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Canon 7D- 18MP/8fps/full HD Video/$1900
mnskydiver688 replied to LouDiamond's topic in Photography and Video
I don't know, I am holding out for enough money to get a Leica S2. Or the M9 with the 50mm f/.95 lens. Ha dream on. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters -
So I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I didn't see anything on Canon's site about dual record and capture. Can the 7d record video and take stills at the same time? Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

Only a thousand? Why not make it 2000? In fact lets make it 6000. That way Darwin's theory has largely run its course and therefore the instructor should have luck on his/her side. Wait, the majority of jumpers killed are "extremely" experienced. Well that theory is blown to hell. But what do I know, I have the amount of jumps most full-time tandem instructors do in a few months. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

There is a difference in the J1 container and the J1KL container. The K series containers are a little different. The J1KS is more like the original J1 which is designed for a 150 main. The J1KL is designed for a 150-170 main. I would suggest talking with Sunpath about it or a local rigger who is able to take a look at it. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
