  1. I think you missed some of my comments. I wasn't advocating total silence. I agree that at that age, there is a certain amount that you have to accept--and I usually do, without it occurring to me to be irritated. I was saying that it's the repetition and the monotony that would get to me, and THAT'S why I keep saying that distraction is good. I'm sure that this mother had a bag of toys, treats and other goodies designed to get them through the trip, and it sounds like that might have been the time to pull those things out. But just so I don't keep repeating *myself,* I'm going to let it drop with that. TPM Sister #102

  4. "Shut a baby up," no. Change the course of the behavior, yes. I would be a lot more receptive to listening to a little one laugh about a toy or a game than I would be to hearing the same phrase repeated over and over. Sometimes it's not about hearing the child at all; it's about what you're hearing. TPM Sister #102
  5. I tend to be more conservative in my parenting views, probably because I'm not one myself. I'll admit that while I understand that children need space to be children and more flexibility and understanding than the rest of us, I get frustrated when parents act as though they are completely incapable of doing anything when their children get out of line. THIS little boy may not even have been acting inappropriately, given his age and the circumstances. It still doesn't mean that his mother was completely powerless to change what was going on. Flying with children is challenging, no doubt. The problem is that it sounds like the mother didn't really make an effort at all. That doesn't mean the flight attendant was right, either, but for a relatively short flight, it surely seems as though there should have been ways for everyone to get along. Then the mother could have taken the problem up with the airline and accomplished the same thing without making the plane go back to the gate. TPM Sister #102
  6. I suspect that no one actually handled this situation well and that all the blame doesn't belong in one place. A child may not be any louder than anyone else, but sometimes the pitch of their voice carries further. Monotonous repetition of the same thing over and over and over and over and over can be very annoying as well. Unless there were other problem behaviors, though, the flight attendant's reaction sounds disproportionate to the situation. Even so, I don't understand why the mother didn't try distracting her son with a toy or a story or something else to divert his attention. From what the article says, it sounds like she just didn't know what to do and it didn't occur to her to provide him with something else to concentrate on. I also have a sneaking suspicion that the mother wasn't as polite about it as the article suggests--which might be understandable if the flight attendant was really that hostile herself. If that's the case, you just have an escalating situation where no one is the winner. TPM Sister #102
  7. Wooohooooo!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you!! I'm also glad that your canopy seems to be in great shape. Make sure it stays that way!

  9. Commercial real estate is excellent and an LLM will serve you well, but your LLM will probably get a lot more use on the corporate/entity structuring side of real estate than it will on straight dirt transactions, land use issues, etc. Go for it! You'll be very much appreciated with an LLM. TPM Sister #102

  11. Oh, and one of our coaches out at MileHi is a lawyer who does a lot of family law and other stuff, but I'm not sure whether she's on dz.com. TPM Sister #102
  12. Well, there's my problem. I've been looking in all the wrong places. I just didn't realize what WalMart and Home Depot could be doing for me! TPM Sister #102
  13. Count me in. I was admitted in 2000 and I practice transactional commercial real estate, which is one reason I don't reply to all the posts about miscellaneous legal inquiries--I leave that to lawrocket and others. Welcome to the bar! Edited to clarify: I don't really count myself as a skydiver--YET (see jump number, as opposed to jump numberS). So, that might skew your poll a bit. I do a LOT of tunnel time, though. TPM Sister #102
  14. Well, let's put it this way, I saw an article online that *appeared* to be serious. Whether it actually happened or not is the well-kept secret of those with bows on their buggy. Edited to add: Old news now: http://money.cnn.com/2005/04/07/news/fortune500/walmart_dating/ TPM Sister #102
  15. ROFL! It's the car accident effect. People just have to look! TPM Sister #102
  16. I'm trying to decide whether this is better or worse than the Wal-Mart dating nights, where participants tied a red bow to their shopping carts to indicate that they were open to being approached. I think they did it in Germany or somewhere. (And no, I was not such a participant. ) TPM Sister #102
  17. Was this junk acquired during your 25th jump for your A license, by any chance? CONGRATULATIONS! TPM Sister #102
  18. We do commercial real estate. No one has asked me to buy dirt or do zoning for a dropzone yet, though. (Hey, we all have our fantasies!) But as for counting the jump, I'm glad tandems can count. I still haven't decided whether it shaved years off or added them to my existence, so just in case--I'm glad they count! TPM Sister #102
  19. Good luck! Just be sure to shut down the dz.com window before you leave. TPM Sister #102
  20. If all of my cells refresh themselves every seven years, why don't I look younger and feel refreshed? Just wondering. TPM Sister #102
  21. Best post in the whole thread, by far! That's wonderful news! TPM Sister #102
  22. Nice! Glad to hear I'm not the only one. And, on the plus side, the log book entry doesn't say anything like, "Screamed before passing out while attempting to board the Otter."

    Baby Bunnies

I think they're precious! Count me on the side of "bunnies are adorable" in this particular thread. I live on a lot that backs up to a large open field, so our neighborhood has a pretty healthy population of bunnies around and I can't say that I've ever had major issues with destruction in the yard because of it. We have bigger problems to deal with--foxes, coyotes, raccoons . . . . TPM Sister #102
  24. Ewwwwwww! Now, see, why did I have to go there??! TPM Sister #102
  25. It's sort of an interesting mental image, if you take it literally. . . . TPM Sister #102
