The DVDs at Blockbuster (and just about any mass-produced DVD, for that matter) are pressed, as in made mechanically, and are not burned in the same process as a DVD or CD burner. Not all players can play all burned discs (and some can't play any!) . Similarly, some CD players made before CD burning became popular can't read burned CDs. Read this for more info. (Aside for the geeks: I can't find a webpage that comes right out and answers the questions, "Why can't some DVD players play burned DVDs", and "What is the difference between burned DVDs and mass-produced DVDs," in language the average consumer can understand. Somebody should write them.)

They haven't. They can't. However, downloading copyrighted music/software/videos with peer-to-peer software is illegal, and always has been.

Categories are not defined by the website, but by the Websense company or the Websense admin on your network (otherwise porn sites would all be under "sports" or "education," too). The only way to get it fixed in the short term is to have your Websense admin do it. Long term, the Websense company needs to do it.

I'm not sure if they're common, but there's one about a mile from my house. Probably not that cheap, but they might have used stuff.

Camper top store.

I would, but since I live at the extreme end of the distance limit, I'll get a crappy connection and I'll have to pay extra for the privilege. $9.95 dialup is here to stay.

Too damn hot today in Illinois. This rain tonight should cool things off.

I'm there.

I only have the old server in my client's config. Anybody know what the new one is?

Alright, I resubscribed to Netflix after doing the free trial a few months ago. If you don't know what it is, check out the Netflix homepage. Right now my rental queue only has a few things in it (The Transporter, XXX, the first and second seasons of Familiy Guy, and the first three DVDs of Futurama). I need ideas for stuff to rent. I'm open to just about anything, and Netflix claims to be able to get almost any DVD ever published.

Maybe. Even so, I'm on dialup, and I really, really wouldn't want every thread to suddenly be filled with 100k JPEGs (legitimate or not). Look at threads on Fark, for example. Plus, for most users (including me, and I consider myself more computer-savvy than average), scaling and attaching an image is simpler than scaling, FTPing, and linking.

No. It would get out of control fast.

Google gives results for Hotswoop Productions (email: hotswoop@oz.net). I can't find a working URL, but the email might work.

I block incoming connections on most ports, but beyond that I don't do any firewalling, and as far as I know I'm not behind a proxy or anything similar. My guess was that is was caused the proxy on your end doing something funky with the HTTP headers, specifically the "Referer" header.

0:8:0 That makes 20 jumps since last Saturday. Everything is super.

Yeah. With Mozilla I do a Shift-Reload and it works fine. It's annoying, but it seems to work 100%.

Just in case anybody in the Chicagoland area is interested, it's playing at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL, in the park's IMAX theater. The movie is free with park admission and plays something like 5 times a day.

I do something like 2.5 hours of actual work every 7 hour shift. It's a great situation for me: There's too much work for two people to do, and not enough for three, and since I'm the supervisor...

... light beams down from Heaven / She stands before my eyes... They Might be Giants on the Severe Tire Damage Tour. I was 15. Super nifty.

Ugh, I know. I got pied yesterday ("Hey Brian" "What?" *whap*), and three showers later I'm still smelling that stuff.

0:12:1 Big weekend. Bunch of four way on Saturday, Sunday was my 100th jump and a couple of bigger ways including a 3 point 10 way, and some other fun stuff.

You ever read The Stand?

A blast handle is a handle that is designed to take a large wind blast without activating. Basically it's a T-handle with a ripcord attached at the base of the T with that is slid into a metal housing. From PPM Vol I: "The aluminum plug center post surrouding the cable and protruding into the housing makes all but straight out pulls very difficult... In 1968, the USPA banned blast handles because of hard pulls." PPM Vol I also has a great picture in section 6.15.1, if somebody wants to scan it.

I saw this one in the catalog at the local community college, so I stopped in and picked it up after work today. Hadn't been checked out since 1986 (or so I assume, the card in the cover was last stamped May 22 1986, and according to the computer it hasn't been checked out since the entire library was barcoded almost 10 years ago). It is quite good. I'm almost halfway through and will probably polish it off before I go to sleep tonight.

The D license doesn't say "Master" on it, and hasn't for a while.
