  1. I use basically the same position as "Neutral" on this page, adjusting my arm position somewhat as necessary for movement and turning. For me, however, my arm position wasn't as important in learning a stable sit as learning to be positive with my feet, legs, and hips.
  2. According to his website (link in his signature), Darkwing was on Tesseract.
  3. We are talking physics here, so actually it doesn't. The definition of deceleration as most people use the word is simply "acceleration opposite the direction of motion." Deceleration towards a wall is exactly the same thing as acceleration away from the wall.
  4. It is the worst of the original trilogy (goddamn Ewoks), so it is almost forgivable. Almost.
  5. Glogg - Grandmother's Ingredients: * 1 bottle Red wine * 1/2 bottle Sweet Vermouth * 8 Cloves * 8 Cardamom pods * 2 pieces Cinnamon * 1 piece Orange peel Mixing instructions: Mix everything in a casserole. Keep overnight. Heat the mixture - do NOT boil. Strain and serve hot woth raisins and almonds. (You have to throw the almonds in boiling water for maybe a minute, and peel of the brown 'coating'. They should be white for use with glogg.) Serve in irish coffee cup. I can't really envision how this would turn out, so I dunno if I would drink it or not.
  6. I'll get out at 2.5k without hesitating (even if it might technically be lower than the limits of my license ). 4k is better because then you can do CRW with the other guys on the load.
  7. I'm planning on showing up Friday night. If you have a spot for a 3-person tent, that would be nifty, otherwise I'll find a spot out in the hinterlands.
  8. $35 with my current rigger, $40 (and I think $45 if you leave your main in the rig) at the dropzone where I started, $51 from Para Gear ($48 for the inspect and repack + $3 for a new Cypres loop).
  9. I think they picked a jump number vs freefall time combination that they felt would give the jumper sufficient freefall experience to go with the privileges of the license, while at the same time not being unfair to those who choose to participate in disciplines with limited freefall time (i.e., CReW, accuracy, swooping, static line instruction, etc).
  10. 0:7:0 I might owe beer, I'm not really sure (Don't know if you owe beer? Case of beer!). 1 jump playing tag, 5 with Bump and Grind, and a hop 'n pop bumping end cells. Could've had a dock or two on that last one, too. I'm wiped. Next weekend is going to be pretty lean, probably practice jumps only, so that I can afford the MWSL meet in two weeks.
  11. A Simpsons quote for every occasion: "Mmmm. Alcohol and night swimming! It's a winning combination!" (MP3)

It was a terrible TV show.
  13. If I leave the DZ with a packed rig, it means that I thought I was going to get on another load and it didn't happen. Usually I pack at home during the week.
  14. Dixie Dregs, California Screamin' album.
  15. Sir Ernest Shackleton. I know, he's not a skydiver, but he's obscure enough that probably nobody else will do a report about him. Inpirational leader, famous explorer, blah, blah. Lots of sources, too.
  16. Night jumps, demo jumps, Pro rating, instructional ratings, the ability to land in restricted landing areas at some DZs, and probably plenty more that I'm missing.
  17. 0:0:0 Crappy weather on Sunday. Decided to pick up an extra shift at work today. I could use the cash after the last couple of weekends. Ah well. I'll probably be at Hinckley this Saturday or Sunday. If I'm lucky I'll be able to get both days and do the "All-You-Can-Jump" thingy.

    DZ.com name

My name is random gibberish that kinda happens to look like a word. It isn't Indy, or IndyZ, or whatever. Just "indyz." I had never even said it out loud until somebody asked me what my username was at Winter Expo. Anyway, I started using it years ago on a BBS, then when I got my first Internet email address I ended up using it there, and then I just started using it everywhere online.
  19. This will be my first WFFC, and I noticed that there is CRW organizing. Right now the only experience I've got is bumping endcells with a friend. Everybody else just runs away when I get close. So, I've got a bunch of questions: - Is there one-on-one or smaller group jumps available for low/no experience jumpers like me? - I assume I'll need a Lightning. Should I contact PD now and arrange a demo for the whole convention, or can I get one there? - What should I be loading at? I'd load a 160 at 1.25:1. - I've got a hook knife, a half-shell Protec, and a chest mount altimeter. Any other gear I need? - I've read all of this and I'll be going over it again. Anything else I should look at? -- Brian
  20. I'm registering and buying some jump tickets after I deposit my next paycheck. I should be showing up on Friday night (August 1st) and leaving on either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, depending on what I can work out with my boss.
  21. This is what I would do based on my training and experience. Consult your instructor. Your mileage my vary. Hell yes. I'm not planning on going in with a horseshoe and no handles pulled. I'd do the same thing I was taught to do if I got a throwout PC wrapped around my arm: Try twice to shake it off, and if it doesn't clear, cutaway and pull my reserve.
  22. There was a minor scandal a while back when somebody discovered that prewritten obits for various extremely famous individuals (the Pope being the only one I remember) were visible on the CNN website. Edit to add: CNN pulled the obits quickly, but they are archived here.
  23. The Space Suit if a freefly suit. Which is to say, it doesn't have grippers or booties. The Pit Special and Tony Suit are made for RW.
  24. Where the hell did the coffee mug icon come from?
