  1. The rumors I've heard are that the Diamond, flyers-pit, and Red Eye lenses are all the same rebranded lens from a Japanese manufacturer.
  2. I'll be in Crown Point for work until Saturday morning and was planning on coming down but now it looks like I have to be in Wisconsin bright and early Sunday, so it's a no-go for me.
  3. They definitely aren't real. It's a scam called "phishing". Somebody is trying to get your personal information, or plant software on your computer, or both. Don't open the Zip files. Forward everything to abuse@yahoo.com.
  4. Thanks for the link. I don't like the Bonehead boxes and was pretty much settled on an L-bracket and an Optik. Now I'm not so sure. The sticker shock, though... I guess it's cheaper than a new camera
  5. When I was doing CRW flying a Spectre 150 with another jumper on a Sabre 150 at similar wingloadings, I found that the Spectre would hang with the Sabre with just a little bit of brakes or rear riser. Definately not a shallower glide, but not significantly steeper.

    LOTR mops up

Oh, absolutely. Everything from the Simpsons, to Men In Black, to Good Will Hunting, to Psycho, not to mention half the shows on TV.
  7. (all from the same film) " 'Course you probably think I'm crazy, but I'm not. I'm colorful. That's what happens when you live ten years alone in Bolivia - you get colorful." What happened to the old bank? It was beautiful. People kept robbing it. Small price to pay for beauty. XXXX: We could fight - they'll stay right where they are and starve us out. Or go for position, shoot us. Might even get a rock slide started, get us that way. What else can they do? YYYY: They could surrender to us, but I wouldn't count on that.
  8. If you liked Neal Stephenson's previous work (Snow Crash, Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon, etc.), you might want to grab a copy of Quicksilver. It is a prequel to Cryptonomicon (the Waterhouses, Shaftoes, von Haeckelhebers, and a mysterious man who doesn't seem to grow older named Root are all there) set in the 18th century and written in the style of historical fiction (leaning way towards the fiction). It is also a very slow read, almost frustratingly so.
  9. "Sinkers and Floaters" is fantastic.
  10. You will need a computer with an infrared port (most laptops and very few desktops have them) and the software from Alti-2's website. The complete instructions come with the software. If you are nervous about doing it, mail it to Alti-2 and they will take care of it for free.
  11. "The young lady with the Uzi... Is she single?"
  12. If you are on the north side of the city, East Troy, WI will probably be flying the 182 this weekend if the weather holds.
  13. Lately they've been doing something that really cracks me up. They take an interview with a political figure (Condoleeza Rice is the one that stands out in my mind) and edit it down to just the talking points. It's fascinating and I've starting doing it in my head when I watch interviews. "Evil doers... Evil doers... Madman... Evil doers... Madman..."
  14. The qualifications are a B license, 100 jumps, and completion of the Coach proficiency card and a registered Coach Rating Course.
  15. Supposedly the new software fixes things. I've heard good things from other people, but I'm still running a very old software version. Whether it comes with the latest software or not depends on how long it has been sitting on the dealers shelf. If they took it into inventory more than about a month ago, it would probably be a good idea to upgrade. The Neptune does not need any cables to link up to the computer. It does however need an infrared port. Most laptops have one, most desktops do not (but you can buy one pretty cheaply). Actually doing the upgrade seems pretty straight forward, I attempted it once (and screwed it up, but I think it was my fault). If you do not want to do the upgrade yourself, just send it to Alti-2 and they will do it free of charge, or find a Field Support Rep in your area to do it for you.
  16. 0:2:0 Only two jumps (and from only 7500' and 6500') before the ceiling got too low and the rain started. Oh, and I lost a contact on the first one, so I made two landings and the drive home with no depth perception. Fun stuff.
  17. I wear a Mindwarp because it is quieter than a ProTec, still offers decent protection, and cost me $75 brand new.
  18. I overstepped my bounds far too often in the past. Check out my posts from 2001-2002. At the time I had under 100 jumps and I didn't know how much I didn't know. Looking back, it's actually embarrassing. Even though I'm probably more qualified than I was a year and 150 jumps ago, I actually find myself giving less advice because I have learned, more than anything else, the limit of my knowledge.

  20. And they are already starting to move from India to the Phillipines.
  21. I'd buy myself a Cypres, but I see you already have one. In that case I'd either get new container (Infinity, most options, solid black with orange pinstriping) or head to sunny Florida for some tunnel time.
