  1. I'll be there for this and would love to demo a suit if possible. I poked around bird-man.com but I couldn't find any jump number requirements (for some reason I can't open PDFs on this computer, so I haven't read the manuals). I have 222 jumps, 160-ish since this time last year. Is that going to be enough?
  2. I keep pullup cords and spare rubber bands in the pocket behind the mudflap on my Vector III. They've come in handy a few times. If you land way off and have a long walk to the nearest road it's nice to be able to pack up first.
  3. Do you render to DV before exporting? If so, does the rendered video play back correctly if you play back just to the screen? If that works, you probably have enough memory and processing power to export to tape. I personally couldn't make Video Studio export to my PC105 without frequent dropout (1.2Ghz Athlon, 1 GB RAM), so I've started rendering to DV in Video Studio, then using Windows Movie Maker 2 to export to the camera.
  4. Craig Poxon is in a story (promotional piece, really) being run on the front page of the British tech rag The Register.
  5. Date: Last Saturday Altitude: 10,500 Aircraft: C-182 Location: East Troy, WI Chased a two way base out, had a nice swoop but came in a little fast and overshot the base. Got the round together, went for the horny gorilla, then funnelled. We actually had a pretty nice headup round for about 2 seconds until the thing fell apart.

  7. I haven't used an AAD since I bought my own gear at 30 jumps. I just couldn't afford to one at the time. I wouldn't mind having a Cypres, and if I'm borrowing a rig that is equiped with one I'll turn it on, but I'm not adverse to jumping without one.
  8. I tried both 2000 and XP with the TI card. It was sometimes showing a conflict in the Devices screen. Is it possible to try a different cable or a different camera?
  9. You have twelve empty lines after the word "Overcome". Those count towards the limit of four.
  10. I've had no problems with Windows Movie Maker (either version). Capture works fine for me in Video Studio 7, but laying back down to tape is a little problematic. Some firewire cards just aren't compatible with certain motherboards. For example, my KT7A-based computer doesn't work very well with Texas Instruments firewire chipsets, but works like a champ with VIA chips. I'd find out what chipset your firewire card is based on and try swapping it for one from a different manufacturer.

"How much does a polar bear weigh?" "I dunno" "Enough to break the ice. Hi, I'm Brian, what's your name?"
  12. "undesirable nancy boy" Oh my. That kind of tough talk could lead to fisticuffs...
  13. I heard a CRW dog claim that a large Nerf ball can be released and then caught again under canopy. Edit: link Hmm, I think I'm going to the toy store this week.
  14. Following the Constitution should be optional in certain situations? Surely you can't be serious. What was that oath you swore when you joined the Navy? "I, Joe Schmoe, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;"
  15. If they are in our custody it does.
  16. The right to due process is a basic human right. Check the Universal Declaration of Human Rights if you don't believe me.
  17. I think he has a legitimate opinion. I also think your initial response ("STFU") is immature at best and a personal attack at worst.
  18. I think that most people will maintain that it's better to have the student prove that he can recover from instability while the instructor is within arms reach, than it is to assume that since the student can fly stable she can also recover from instability.
  19. 0:1:0 Safety Day took most of my Saturday. After that, I did one jump (funnelled 3-way horny gorilla attempt). Then I went to the hotel and did my water training. After 2 1/2 years and 222 jumps, I'm finally just a couple of signatures away from being B licensed and a couple of accuracy landings away from my C.
  20. 9/11: It was my first semester at college. I got up late as usual and rushed to class. It happened while I was in german. On the way out of class I stopped and got a hotdog from a street vendor. There were a bunch of people standing around and listening to the vendor's radio. I got my dog and left, still not knowing what had happened. Went to chemisty, sat through a lecture with a bunch of people talking in hushed tones. By them time that I left the chem lecture for calculus, I knew that something was up. On the way, I heard that somebody had crashed a plane into the World Trade Center. For some reason I assumed it was a little Cessna or something. The calc professor cancelled class because of "the events of this morning." I went back to my dorm, still pretty much clueless, and turned the TV on.

Rush is coming to Chicago. Tickets go on sale tommorrow. I'm so tempted.
  23. I like Linux. It's my primary OS at home, and I'm the Linux admin where I work. But people have been saying that Linux has been "poised to move to the home-computing desktop" since before I had even installed RedHat 4 for the first time. It just ain't gonna happen in the foreseeable future.
  24. I still have an original set, including the box and rules, that has been passed down from my grandfather to my father to me. I think I've played 2 complete games. The rest of the time we just see how far we can throw 'em.
