You would think so, but I live in a state that has a moratorium on the death penality because a few years ago practically everyone on death row (it seemed) was having their convictions reversed. Edit to add: Found the numbers. Here in Illinois, since the death penalty was reinstated in 1977, 12 people have been executed and at least 13 have had their convictions overturned. That ain't right.

The Gimp works under Windows as well. I don't have much experience with Photoshop but somebody who does told me that it is at about the Photoshop 4 level of functionality, which is plenty for what I do (adjust levels, crop, and resize mostly).

The speed of two-way satellite is pretty decent. The major problem is that the latency is very high, i.e., it takes a long time for the signal to make the round trip. This means there is a delay between clicking and page loading that drives DSL users up the wall. It also makes playing games and doing some other real-time things difficult or impossible. Also, I don't know about other companies but DirecWay has a draconian Fair Access Policy that they use to automatically rate limit people who are using a lot of bandwidth. Terrestrial wireless (basically super long range WiFi) is becoming available in many areas. In my neighborhood the price is very competitive with DSL, the bandwidth is better, and the people I know who use it have few complaints.

You could try the police. In a lot of places, the police have an obligation to protect the identity of tipsters who want to remain anonymous. You could also try the media. "Epileptic driver causes 4 accidents, still has license". Of course, that could cause her huge amounts of public grief.

0:4:0 2 practice jumps with the 4-way team, and a couple of 8-ways with the team as base so we could practice our exit. The nice thing about being an alternate is that I get to fly all of the slots. The bad thing about being an alternate is that I have to learn to fly all of the slots.

On Linux and most other non-Windows OSes, the file extension doesn't really mean much. You need to tell the system that the program is executable. Do that by opening a terminal, going to the same directory where you downloaded the client, then running: chmod +x FAH4Console-Linux.exe Then run this command to start the client: ./FAH4Console-Linux.exe The period and slash at the beginning are important.

BeOS was so far ahead of it's time, and the BeBox (dedicated Be hardware) was incredible as well. Someday I want to get a BeBox, but there were only 1800 made, and 800 of those had the "good" (dual 133Mhz PowerPC) processors. Every once in a while one shows up on eBay, but they usually go for $500-1000. Too rich for my college student blood. Right now in retrocomputing land I have my eyes on a NeXTstation Turbo. Mmm, Lisp.

In this case, Snopes cited an article on the ASPCA webpage written by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. I am inclined to believe it. Of course, there is only one way to be sure. You get the dog, I'll get the grapes.

Not true. Maybe "poisonous" isn't the right word, but even small amounts can cause renal failure or death in dogs.

You can burn your own Linux install CDs free and legal. Just go to LinuxISO, pick your distribution (RedHat 9 is a good starting point) and go. If I had that much crap laying around I'd try and collect some unusual ones: - BeOS - QNX - Longhorn (there's a prerelease out there somewhere) - Solaris - HURD - Darwin
