  1. I can't see the last login in your profile, or mine, or sunshine's, or several other people who I know are invisible.

    google yourself

The following is a copy/paste from June 2002. Things may have changed: I am an associate professor in Science, Technology and Society at the University of Wollongong, I attend UNC, I am a Ph.D (Immunology) with a bunch of published papers, I have Gulf War Syndrome, I took a silver medal in doubles luge at the Nagano Olympics and have held two World Cup doubles luge titles, and I have a law firm. As if that isn't enough, I am also a meteorologist, a judge, a minor league baseball umpire, a physicist, a geologist, an expert on hackers, an executive with American Capital Strategies, a Harvard graduate, a police sergeant in California, and a television news anchor. I am also a Pro Putter (professional mini-golf league) with $1,046.83 career earnings and a lifetime stroke average of 30.68. Less than two strokes per hole, pretty good if I may say so myself (minds out of the gutter, people).

    Mini Profiles

Couple of thoughts: This information has always been available on your profile - there's nothing new here. Last login doesn't show up in my profile, or the profiles of a few other people who I know are invisible. It just doesn't make any sense to me to have invisibility hide my last login time in my profile, only to have it plastered over every post that I've ever made. Edit: I should add that invisibility is hardly a deal breaker for me. If the option didn't exist, I'd still be here. It's just bugging me that although I have invisibility set, I'm not really invisible anymore.
  4. I'll try and remember to slide when turbulence collapses my canopy 10 feet off of the ground.

    Mini Profiles

I'd second that. And I'll third. I can't really rationalize why I set myself to invisible (I haven't had problems with stalkers or anything), but given the option I'll always turn it on. Putting my last login on all of my posts sort of defeats the purpose.
  6. Mine has a lot. Maybe 10? But it's electric, so I don't think it counts.
  7. Based on what I've read, I believe that the problem sentence in the privacy policy will most likely change before rollout. Gmail is currently in closed beta testing, so it is too early to draw any kind of conclusion about the service. Things can and will change.
  8. 0:0:0 It was pretty windy Saturday, Sunday I spent the last day of Spring Break doing homework.
  9. I gathered that from your original post. I was trying to emphasize it is possible to safely land that malfunction in the event that you find yourself too low to cut it away. The best example of that is people who get in the (bad) habit of leaving their brakes stowed in order to increase glide while coming back from a long spot.
  10. It would still be possible to do a rear riser landing. Hold enough left brake to steer in a straight line, then either flare with one rear riser and one toggle (practice this a few times before landing) or just land in half brakes and PLF. The best option depends on your wingloading and confidence with rear riser landings. That said, if I couldn't clear it by my hard deck I would cut it away. No regard whatsoever as to who owned the gear. When I get on the plane, I am prepared to lose all of it, no second thoughts. On the plus side, you have first hand experience as to why you should never leave your brakes stowed below your hard deck. It would really suck to leave 'em stowed while trying to get back from a long spot, then go to clear them at 500 feet only to find one stuck. People have got hurt doing that.
  11. A meeker is a 4-way point (random E in the current NSL dive pool). It is one of the easiest 4-ways to launch due to it's design.
  12. I have a pair that I ordered from SportRX. After almost 200 jumps the foam seal is starting to peel and the elastic strap is getting worn out, but otherwise they are still going strong.
  13. I thought that there was no D license test anymore. The 2004 SIM mentions tests for B and C licenses, but not for D.
  14. I'm going with yes, you can turn it back on. If we are thinking of the same AAD, FXCs are purely mechanical and are manually calibrated on the ground. I could tell you for sure if I saw the AAD (is this the one with the knob, the guage, and the thingy that you adjust with a quarter?).
  15. Some PAL versions of cameras don't have DV or analog in because in Europe there is a substantial tax on cameras that can record an external signal.
  16. It's easy. Grab your front risers with your opposite hands (left hand on right riser, right hand on left riser) and pull back across. You'll turn 180 in the harness. Just let go to turn back around.
  17. I made my first night jump when I had about 150 jumps. The exit was absolutely terrifying, looking up at the square of light that was coming from the Casa tailgate as I dropped away. Then I looked down and it was awesome. An hour later I was heading up to do a 2-way. We were going to launch a chunk (because how could we possibly funnel a two way?), find the airport, then just do 360s and redock down to break off. Well, we funnelled it but recovered. Then we spent the entire skydiving staring at the ground because neither of us could find the stupid airport. As it turns out, it was directly beneath us. An interesting side effect that I've noticed on night jumps and other high-tension jumps is that my accuracy is proportional to my fear of getting killed during the landing. First night jump: Turf surf across dead center.
  18. I did my first dozen or so student jumps on the Student version. Big, ugly monster. Lots and lots of velcro. Two pin reserve. Definitely not freeflyable. The one I jumped was set up for a Sentinel AAD. If I recall correctly it was made in the early to mid 80s. I think the manufacturer was the Adventure Loft.
  19. The leader can see the group and adjust the pace of the dive. Plus that's where all the cameras are, and freefliers need their face time.
  20. They aren't run every month. Could that be it?
  21. If the PC is connected to the bag but not the canopy, then you just have a freebag on your main.
  22. You can get the rules for Collegiate 2-way from the Skydiver's Comptetion Manual at the USPA manuals page. Whoever is organizing your meets may have different rules, so it would be best to check with them.
  23. Go here. That will get your site in the index. To get better ranking in the results, get as many people to link to you as you can. They should use descriptive links, not like that "here" link I just did.
