  1. Because practically everybody tuning into ESPN has the ability to start practicing poker, right now, for almost no money, and they might actually be able to get good at it. The audience can connect with that. The audience can't connect with skydiving, and the vast majoirty of them can't or won't spend the money that it takes to get started in the sport (let's say $4000 for an A license and a good rig), let alone the thousands of jumps that it takes to be competitive.
  2. In the past I've heard that the Spectre outglides original Sabre. I've seen it first hand on CRW jumps with a Sabre 150 and a Spectre 150 at similar wingloadings. I flew the Spectre and with the other canopy ahead of me I would gain horizontally while staying even or slightly gaining vertically, which seems to indicate that the Spectre had better glide. A little bit of rear riser and I could very easily close up from low and behind to get the dock. I hadn't heard the Sabre2 thing until another thread today. It seems possible that somebody confused the two.
  3. Ever hear that old physics joke? A traffic cop pulls over Werner Heisenberg. He walks up to Heisenberg and asks, “Do you know how fast you were going?” “No, but I can tell you exactly where I am.”
  4. 0:0:1 Saturday I did ground crew for the club's annual demo at the Milwaukee lakefront. That's a first. Fast lent me a very expensive digital camera and I took a bunch of pictures of the swoopers. Hopefully he'll get them online sometime in the near future (hint hint hint). Sunday I was recovering from Saturday's sunburn and the weather looked rough anyway. Car shopping and marginal weather today.
  5. Blazing Saddles was on ABC Family a couple weeks ago. They bleeped or dubbed every single curse and racial slur in the entire movie (or so I assume, I could only stand to watch up to the part where Bart rides into town). What's the point of showing the film if it has to be edited down to a G-rating first?
  6. That's the whole point. It's a stripped down Mozilla for those of us who aren't going to use the email, news, IRC, and god-knows-whatelse features anyway. The browser core is exactly the same between the two.
  7. The time is right for somebody, somewhere in the world (Berlin and Prague are both 7 hours ahead of CDT). Remember, this is an international website. The system clock might not be set for your local time. Although it doesn't quite make sense, as I would expect the server to be on UTC (standard timezone), which is five hours ahead of CDT, not the seven hours that you are seeing. Also, the date isn't necessarily the time that the email was received by the server. I constantly get email that is dated decades in the future or years in the past by spammers or just inept users who forget to adjust their computer's clock.

    Smores.

Now I want Sonic, any Sonic, so bad. It's probably been two years. And the worst part is I drove from Chicago to Knoxville and back a couple of weeks ago, probably passed 100 of the damn things, and didn't stop. I'm disgusted with myself.

    Smores.

I make mine the old fashioned way. I really want to try one of Sonic's S'mores Blasts, but the closest one is a few hours drive away.
  10. A while back we tried to Firewire from a PAL Sony PC-series camera to an NSTC Sony VX-series camera and couldn't make it work. We were doing this without the benefit of instruction manuals, so I suppose it's possible and we just couldn't figure it out.
  11. I saw that the other day on one of the Mac news sites. I can't even justify the $600 for the graphics card necessary to drive the sucker, let alone $3300 for a monitor. If I ever feel like going bigger than my old (and terribly underused) twin 17-inch setup, I'll probably get a Matrox triple-head card, two nice LCDs, plus one big CRT, and still end up more than $2500 ahead.
  12. So, do you think that the complaints about the difficulty of the course and the high failure rate are because the course was genuinely too difficult, or because the courses were filled with unqualified candidates?
  13. 0:10:0? Did three 4-way videos with a borrowed camera suit. Hit the team once . Now I need to go buy my own suit. This summer is getting expensive...

    Jeri Ryan

Guess who is dropping out of the race. Whoever replaces Ryan is screwed right out of the gate, so it looks like Obama basically has it locked up.
  15. Lots of pictures of Gary's cock (SFW?)
  16. The way I've heard it described is that it's like a static line progression, but they train hard on the ground, skip the rope, and go straight to 10 second delays.
  17. For people like me who can't justify renting a golf cart, there is a ton of walking at WFFC. Last year I was easily doing a few miles a day.
  18. A lot of times it's easier to shoot a worm-burner between the giraffe's legs and hit a snake on the opposite side than it is to try to loft it and risk getting snagged by the buzzard.

The documents are available here, if anybody is interested. Hooray for The Smoking Gun. Another reason why I love living in Illinois. The politics are never boring. I personally don't care if Jack Ryan took his wife to sex clubs, or if it led to his divorce. What I do care about is that before the records were unsealed he insisted that there was nothing embarrassing in them and that he wanted them to remain sealed only to protect his son.
  20. So I take it you're running Windows 95, 98, or ME? Upgrade. If you can run 98/ME acceptably, you can probably run Windows 2000. If you are using Windows 2000 or better already, I'm not sure what the big deal is. Just disable any Guest or other unused accounts and set good passwords for Admin and your personal account.
  21. What type of person are you trying to keep from getting into your machine? The two extremes: If it's a determined, knowledgeable intruder with lots of uninterrupted time in front of the screen, the only real solution is to physically secure the machine, make sure it is behind a locked door when you aren't around . If it's just a nosey roommate who likes to surf for porn and read your email while you are at work, the built-in stuff that comes with Windows 2000 or better will probably suffice.
  22. Come on, man. I understand some of your previous complaints about a "ready fit world." But what do you expect this guy to do, mill his own step ring? Grind his own lenses?
  23. When I trace down from the root DNS servers, it barfs up a temporary name resolution error when it tries to resolve dns3.chatworlds.net. Looks like an issue on their end.
  24. news.google.com, The Daily Show, a couple of newspapers, CNN or Fox if there is nothing else on the tube. I used to watch the BBC when I had it on satellite.
  25. Eh, you aren't the only one. I tried to teach my friend Shnu how to drive stick a few years ago. I gave up after he stalled the car 5 times without managing to get it backed out of the parking space. Anywho, I prefer an automatic but I have a couple thousand miles of stick under my belt. I don't enjoy driving that much, so the less work I have to put into it the better.
