  1. The only one I've seen that is anywhere near reallistic as far as aerodynamics/helicopter handling is X-Plane. The R22 is pretty realistic there....but there's only so much you can do with a computer screen as your visual references, and no feel of the aircraft. I took a friend of mine up in a 300CB once, and he had never been in a helicopter....but had lots of time on X-Plane(6.0 I think) in the R22 and B206. He was able to takeoff, hover, and land....but autorotation was a real bitch...he wasn't doing well, so I grabbed it. Overall, don't count on being able to fly a helicopter if you don't have any experience at it(the real thing), or tons of airplane experience and some helo sim time. Some people can, but it's rare. Mike
  2. When I grow up, I want to be a poor, lazy bum....shit! I think I've already grown up! DAMMIT! Mike
  3. Dude, your computer has nothing on mine....behold the magnificense! Mike
  4. Can't tell from that pic...it appears to be one of the 300 variants, but without seeing the engine or cockpit can't really tell. It may even be the Schweizer 333, but, again, can't tell without seeing the engine or cockpit. Mike Edit - actually, it can't be the 333....tail boom is different...but the cockpit looks similar to the very first 333.
  5. Never been diving there....but try asking here.. http://dive.scubadiving.com/talk/list.php?f=1 Mike
  6. Pssst....hey....did you notice somebody stole your canopies?! Mike
  7. So you think....at least I don't have an identity crisis and think I'm Superman.. Mike
  8. It's not the excercise part that did her in....it's the fact that she got out of bed at that ungodly hour! Just goes to show....don't get out of bed before noon, and the bad things will long be over by then! Mike
  9. Looks like a Hughes 269 - the predecessor to the Schweizer 300 series...but basically the same thing. Those pedals are easy to figure out though.....the right one is to go faster, the left one is to go slower....right? Good thing there's no clutch, or else I'd never be able to fly the things.. Mike
  10. Actually...ditching IS in the AFM....but that's not the way I was taught to ditch! Mike
  11. Same here. It's pretty frustrating when they advertise a canopy but won't give ANY idea when it may be released. I really wanted to demo one when I first saw the specs and heard some reviews from people that had jumped 'em....but now....since it's been such a long wait with no info on when it will be released....not so much. I'm looking at alternatives since PD won't even give us any clue as to when the canopy will be released. I don't think they know, which makes me wonder if they're having problems with it. Mike
  12. Ok...finally got to pick up my S3 this morning....but, unfortunately, due to the weather, didn't get to jump it today.....that's ok....Friday(and Sat and Sun if the weather cooperates!), I fly! Here are a couple pics.. Mike
  13. Dude, you think THAT'S bad? Check this out! TooDamnCold Or.....to make you feel even worse about your weather there....check THIS out! Bethel, AK Weather It's warmer than Denver! Mike
  14. Hmmm......sounds like a challenge to me.... Let me get a FEW jumps on the thing before I try to land it, though.. Mike
  15. Damn, that sucks...sorry to hear it, and sorry you had to witness it. It's gonna be tough to deal with for quite a while. I've been there, and it sucks...but lean on your close friends, especially the ones there that you can make physical contact with. Many years ago I watched a good friend of mine die, and held another in my arms while he died waiting for the paramedics - all because he was drunk and decided he was OK to ride his motorcycle home with his fiance on the back. It'll be tough, then you'll almost forget about it, then it'll slam back into you again. It goes in cycles. It took me a long time to deal with it, and I was only able to because of my close friends...so, like I said, lean on them when you need to. Hopefully this is a lesson to all to not drink and drive...but, unfortunately, I know it won't change the mind of many that choose to do so. Mike
  16. Is there a minimum altitude they are planning for this(or any other) balloon jump? I won't have too many jumps on my S3 by then(maybe 30 or 40)...so I'll probably still be pulling around 4000-4500 with it...so if they're only planning 5,000-6,000ft, it wouldn't be worth it for me.. Mike
  17. Any idea what type of props those are? Metal or composite? Based on the bend, I'm guessing their metal...but couldn't tell for sure. I never thought that composite props would bend like that, but one of the Beech 1900's I used to fly(they have composite props standard, which are an aftermarket thing for the King Air's) had a truck back into the prop and bend it like that(just two blades, though, not all 4). The mechanics said it probably would've turned into a ball of yarn if that had happened while the prop was spinning.. Mike
  18. You should've tried a Samurai....awesome canopy, and solid as a rock even in nasty turbulence. They're manufactured at PD, too, so it's basically a much improved version of the Vengeance.. Mike
  19. Only when the wingsuit flyers aren't on board.. Mike
  20. Hmmm....I always thought the Skyvan was over 12,500...maybe there are some variants of it that are, but the original is not.. Then again, maybe I'm just mixing it up with the specs on other models of Shorts aircraft. I'll have to ask at Deland next time I'm there and talk to the Skyvan pilots. Mike
  21. You sure that was me? I don't remember that.....but I'll take your word for it... Mike
  22. IT'S ON!! I'll be there with my new S3! WOOHOO! Mike
  23. Nice pics! I didn't think anybody got any good pics of the cake accident.... I only saw one flash that whole time....and, as you all know, I was not under the influence of any alcohol at that time.. Mike
  24. Happy birthday! Now...where's that cake? Mike
  25. Gimme a couple more days....I get to pick up my brand new S3 on Wed.....yes, I'll be buying much beer this weekend(actually, I'll probably be jumping it by 10am Wed!)....then I'll get some pics of it up.. Mike
