I thought about the number of wingsuits sold but you are right that it is really not the answer. And I was curious about the number of "active" wingsuiters...say someone who does at least a handful a year, not someone who did just one flight. Given all the knowledge in this forum and how tapped in ya'll are I thought someone might have a rough estimate.

A thread in the "General Skydiving Discussions" forum about the number of active skydivers worldwide got me thinking about how many wingsuiters there are. How many do you think there are in the world? What are we talking.....under a thouasand? A couple thousand? more?

Beautiful pics! Now I am really pissed I didn't bag my Vegas trip and go to PR instead. Oh well, at least I got 1 jump in at Mesquite from a 182 from 8,000. Almost as good as a week of flocking in Puerto Rico....no? Note to self: go to Keys and Puerto Rico boogies next year!!!! Second note to self: next time you go to Vegas don't drop $650 in the casino so you have more $$$$ to to first note to self

Wing suit flyer.. Height 6`6 feet – Weight 160 Pounds
skyjumpsteve replied to medusa's topic in Wing Suit Flying
6'6 160 huh? That would make him an average size b-baller at best. If he quits hoops he could become an amazing wingsuiter! It is a hell of a lot more fun too! -
Very nice! That would be awesome. See you on Saturday....I am praying for good weather! It is about -5 in Boston so anything sunny and over 50 will be Heaven
-
Wonderly! Didn't recognize the pic. Well...I think I will keep my other ankle...I don't want to be asymetrical when I am flying a wingsuit.
-
It cost me $75 for a small tattoo on my ankle when I was in college. It now looks like shit 15 years later and I am having it laser removed. At $200 a treatment times 8 or 10 treatments it is going to be 25 times more expensive to get the fucking thing removed than it was to get it in the first place.

Mike....I just noticed you were the one who started the thread about whether flying a Prodigy before 200 jumps is a good idea. Looks like you are aching to be a bird! Very nice. Jump your ass off in the next two weeks so you can fly with me when I am there.

Dirty it is! Hope to see you on the 10'th...Saturday is the day I will probably make the trek from the city of Sin. Justin, fuck....I would LOVE to do Puerto Rico but just can't pull it off. Next year for sure.

I am going to be in Vegas next weekend and will not have time to make it to Eloy. Any wingsuiters out there jump at Mesquite?

The cancer comment was a bit harsh My twin brother got diagnosed with cancer last week and is having surgery tomorrow. I am extremely worried about him and reading that comment was truly upsetting. I can't say reading it made me cry but suffice it to say I probably felt shittier than you did when you overheard the ass-holes talking about you. He was in a fraternity and acts and behaves nothing like your generalizations.....

Zeemax, great pic. Lurch thought it would be a good idea for a bunch of the New England wingsuiters to show up at a local mall and walk around in our suits. He thought this could drum up some first jump business which down the road could grow our flock. I told him no one in their right mind would walk around in a mall with a wingsuit.....guess I was wrong!

Am I the only one who finds Dane Cook to beee.........well, CRAP?!
skyjumpsteve replied to Douva's topic in The Bonfire
My brother thinks he is the shits and was really excited to get tickets to his show in Boston a few months ago. He asked me if I wanted to go so I found some of his "material" and could not believe how bad it was! I called my brother back and told him he would need to pay me to go. I really don't get how people think this guy is funny. -
Clint, my next 3 vacations are wingsuit ones....I think I will make it 4. MOAB sounds like a blast. I am penciling it in my calendar.

Just got the book in the mail yesterday and am thoroughly enjoying it. I like option 1 as well. "Battling the enemy within" to me just doesn't fit. Is the content of the second edition changing at all?

John, no issues at all with a M1 in a 182. It is really easy to get on (and off under canopy). PhoenixRising and I did our first 2 flights with our new Mach's from a 182 and had no problems at all. Both loads we did had 2 other jumpers as well. I hated climbing out of the 182 but that was mostly because I hadn't done it in about 10 years!

2 New England birds, 5 days in ZHills, 4 new suits
skyjumpsteve replied to skyjumpsteve's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Hey....at least we got to fly with you on Monday! Even though we had 2 weather holds due to clouds over the weekend we banged out 30 jumps which isn't too shabby for a long weekend. I would love to come down with Justin in February but I am already booked for Vegas. Know any wingsuiters that jump at Mesquite? We are really pumped for March....see you in 2 months. -

skyjumpsteve replied to skyjumpsteve's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Justin (PhoenixRising) and I are headed down to Z-Hills tomorrow for 5 days of flying. Between the 2 of us we have 4 new suits that have a grand total of less than 5 jumps (Two M1's that have 2 each, my virgin Phantom, and Justin's virgin Vampire). Hopefully we will have good weather and get a ton in. Jeff, Chuck, Scottie.....hope to flock with all of you. I never heard from you Jeff so I hope you are around! -
Done. Looking forward to it.

There are a few companies marketing high rise emergency parachutes. They cost between one and two grand. There definitely has been more marketing of these post 9/11. http://www.executivechute.com/ http://www.evacuchute.com

Holy Christ...I totally agree. It was painful to watch him last night. The countdown was really hard to watch.

On my 10'th WS jump I cut away my Sabre 150. Given that it was 13 years old and had about 2,000 jumps on it I left it in the tree (the lady who found it was kind of bummed she was not going to get a reward!). I bought a Spectre and love it. I never jumped a 7 cell either but now that I have it I don't regret buying it for a second. I have about 100 WS jumps on it and feel extremely comfortable at deployment time. Definitely demo a Spectre or Triathalon before you make a decision.

That is the cutest friggin' thing I have seen in a long time! I should make one for my niece....
