Have you looked at the site? Is there ANYTHING you find just plain silly? I now find my self wanting to know more about the bible as I find it truly fascinating how most Christian do not even know the language(s) it was written in or who even wrote it. How the four gospels all give different and conflicting accounts of Christ life. I clicked on the site and read enough of the commentaries to see they were made by ignorant people trying to sound intelligent. They comment on issues they don't understand. They obviously had their minds made up about the subjects before they read about them. I wouldn't waste my time worrying about what other Christians may or may not think, if I were you. Instead your time would be much better spent addressing the issues of your own spiritual needs and relationship with God. ...

Nova's judgment day: Intelligent design on trial

I thought you weren't talking about science classes. Since you are, what do you suggest? At the start of each year should the teacher declare "By the way kids, some people think that some kind of god/chance occurrence might have created the whole universe. Now on to what we do know..." Hope you don't mind if I helped you a little. It is a terrible thing to leave an incomplete statement hanging out there like that. And as all esteemed intellectuals would agree , religion has no place in the science class. -

>the reality that poor soul had created for himself was determined by his > understanding or misunderstanding of spiritual and physical truths. Incorrect. His spiritual outcome might well be determined by what spiritual truths he holds or does not hold. His physical outcome will be determined purely by gravity, air resistance and basic mechanics, and not affected the slightest bit by his absolute, fervent and overwhelming belief that God will save him. Quote I am not sure what you disagree with. Physical outcomes and spiritual/metaphysical outcomes combine to form the ultimate reality we create for ourselves. Individuals and groups who structure their reality on false beliefs in either category fail to thrive. Those who base their reality on truth, succeed and survive. ... -

What really makes me chuckle is when people say that Christianity isn't a religion (it's a personal relationship with God) You just can't reason with that kind of logic. You are close to grasping the quantum nature of Christianity, it can actually be both. -

Atheism tries to define the paramaters of spiritual reality, ie there are none. --I keep coming back to this absolutely ridiculous statement. Atheism in no way tries to difine anything about "spiritual reality". It does disbelieve the existence of "spiritual reality". --I don't believe in spiritualism at all. I believe it only exists in your imagination. So far I have not seen anything to lead me to believe otherwise. Call it what you want. Atheism defines the metaphysical parameters you use to construct your own particular brand of reality. Which you use to understand the world around you and your place in it. That is the same thing religion is trying to do. Once there are a bunch of you all espousing the same metaphysical information, you have a religion. ... -

Quote>Science and Spirituality define the reality we each live in. --No, they don't. A very spiritual person who believes with all his heart and soul that the Holy Spirit will save him if he jumps without a parachute will still die - because the physical world, not our beliefs, determine reality.Quote True enough, but I am sure you realize, the reality that poor soul had created for himself was determined by his understanding or misunderstanding of spiritual and physical truths. As you described, when one's understanding of either is flawed consequences will surely follow. The testing of the believer's faith, mentioned in the Bible, is to expose flawed beliefs and validate true ones. Much as the scientific method does for physical phenomena. Both science and metaphysics play a major role in the reality we create for ourselves. True beliefs preserve, false beliefs destroy. ... -

Till there is evidence of any god I have no reason to believe any god exists much less the Christian God. Atheism is not and never has been a religion, no matter how much you want to say it is. Atheism tries to define the paramaters of spiritual reality, ie there are none. Unless atheism truns out to be the one true way, it is just a false religion, like so many others. I, personally am not betting on it. In my life there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. ... -

Which god? You didn't answer last time I asked, and there are thousands to choose from. By all means, do your own exploration. I believe the Words of Jesus. " I am the Way the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except by Me" ... -

Ach, and this was going so well. No, science has nothing to do with spirituality. They fit together like love and magnetostriction. Don't fret, things are still good. Science and Spirituality define the reality we each live in. They provide guidance on how to maximize pleasure and minimize pain, individually and collectively. How to avoid the self destructive snares in life that are waiting to consume us, etc. And ultimately how to commune with God. ... -

The Bible is of human creation. The idea of god is of human creation. You were suckered in by it. You imagine some all knowing invisible being that has no evidence of ever existing. If you can't scientifically show or have any evidence of any deity existing then there is no reason to believe in any deity. I have heard that logic from other devotees of the religion spun off from scientific fact. You have removed God from His proper place in your life and have inserted your own will. That religion has been around for a long time, science just happens to be the latest justification of it. ... -

Like "the earth is round" or "the earth revolves around the sun?" Yep, lots of depravity caused by the rejection of those biblical truths. I am not sure what bible you are referring to. The Christian Bible is a spiritual textbook, not a scientific textbook. It has been my experience that science and spirituality fit together like a hand in a glove. ... -

What is "spirtual depravity"? *** Spiritual depravity results when the Truth of God is rejected and replaced by a truth of our own creation. When scientific facts are extrapolated into unsupportable realities, such as "the existence of God is impossible or a myth", it becomes another competing religion, proposing its own brand of truth. Religion is man made, I see little reason to support any of them. The Bible is a light in the darkness. Many, sadly to say, have made it into a religion, just as they have done with science. ..... -

I also agree that scientific instruction in schools should be limited to scientific facts. The problem arises when scientific scholars start preaching their scientific religion as scientific fact. A few amino acids or hydrocarbons found in some experimental primordial like stew in no way eliminates the existence of God, or His involvement in the history of the universe. Nor does this enlightened scientific religion provide any answers for the spiritual depravity that we find ourselves in. -

Good Post! Along with giving us the Truth and showing us the way to live, He has removed the obstacles of our past failures, allowing for a personal relationship with God. -
--Are you serious?!? Vets really believe that Prozac is indicated for a cat that is grumpy about something and craps on the floor? Wow... Yep. I am surprised at the responses. It is not that big of a deal. The medications are inexpensive and when dosed properly have minimal to no effect on personality. They are only considered, of course, after environmental factors and physiological causes, such as UTIs, are ruled out. One thing I have noticed over the years, is that when the human animal is not happy the cat gets put outside. In most urban, suburban, and rural settings that can leads to very inhumane accidents.

Good news for Christians from the world of science

Now spirituality, or spiritual truth or whatever you guys call it, I have no idea what that is and if I were to try to believe in it, it would require more faith than I could possibly muster. Spiritual Truth provides the framework for a Spiritual Reality, which is our interface with God. God is recognized and communicated with spiritually. Those who have experienced it can explain it much like your description of love. Which should not be surprising since God is Love. God is a Spirit and those who know Him must do so in Spirit and Truth. ... -
Anybody have cat training experience that will help me convince the cat to top shitting on the floor? Elimination problems for emotional reasons is a common problem in cats. I see this a lot in my practice. If you can't control it with enviornmental changes, medications such as clomipramine or fluoxetine(prozac) or other TCAs or SSRIs usually work like a charm. You can get your Vet to prescribe them. The goal is to change the behavior without tranquilization. Good Luck.

I have found that "curse" to not be a burden at all. I consider it to be a good thing to be able to distinguish good from evil. I would be very interested to hear a description of the parameters you use to do that. Since the definition seem to change with whom ever you are talking to. ... -

You misunderstand. I'm saying that if you look for it, you could find the same transformations in people who follow any religious doctrine. That's evidence that belief can change people's lives, not that the object of that belief actually exists. You could be right. I personally don't know if belief in any spiritual path leads to the same destination. I would not bet on it. My particular faith answers my questions in a unique and personal way. I hope all others seeking God have such luck. ... -

Since only the tree of knowledge was prohibited, this must mean that God approves consumption of marijuana, cocaine, and opium. "Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die". -- Genesis 2: 9, 16-17 (KJV) Who's to say, you may be right. Or those plants may have resulted from the process of genetic mutation and natural selection of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil over time. I have not seen much good come from those plants in terms of spiritual/personal growth. .............. -

--I've seen lots of people on the street who claim to know God personally and claim to have conversations with him, but I'll be damned if I use what they say to pattern my life. Heck, my dog makes more sense and all she does is bark, belch, and occasionally groan. You will get no argument from me. Animals have always seemed more in touch with reality than most people I have encountered. Animals don't seem to be burdened with our curse of discerning good from evil. -

--There are many people who would ascribe similar benefits to pretty much every religious book out there.I don't see how those experiences can count as evidence for any particular god. I examine the actions and lives of people who say they have experienced God. If they are no different from anyone else, then yes you are correct. But if their life demonstrates a transforming power, I sit up and take notice. -
And you have proof that we have a soul? How about proof in God? I'll gladly change my opinions if you show me something concrete. Really, I would be happy to be immortal, it's a nice fantasy. Just show me proof. What would it take? How about if somebody died, and then came back from the dead and told us what they had seen? ................
-
We are all immortal already on several levels. The matter that composes our bodies was produced in exploding stars and is at least 13.7 billion years old. The energy that defines our personalities is yet to be identified by science, and it is my belief that it will remain intact after the death experience. Since energy cannot be destroyed.

-- why pin it in on any kind of god? I find it a necessary first step in trying to make some kind of sense out of the chaos. --You appearntly conclude god exists to start But more logical thinking doesnt start with its conclusion I might agree with your logic, but not your order of events. The universe is the conclusion, God or chance occurrence is the reason. But since God uses chance occurrence to accomplish much of His creations, "chance occurrence" is not the most simplified factor when one tries to dissect out the originator & purpose of life. ---How do you know you "profound pyschologicla coping skills" came from god? They came from the application of Bible Doctrine to my personally constructed reality. Bible Doctrine came from God through the inspired writings of those who knew Him. ..................
