It may be a mid life thing. I started AFF when I was 30 (last year). The most significant way skydiving has changed my life asside from the obvious financial issues, is that I FEAR NOTHING (except police and insects), lets just say no one. Its hard to talk about, but I used to be very shy and quiet, never took chances, and was extremely complacent with life "as it was". I have found that skydiving has, almost made all the issues that had contributed to my introverted nature secondary, that is to say, I forgot about them. There is much more important things to worry about while in freefall than feelings of inferiority, or stuff like that, and there is no substitute for the feelings of accomplishment. Conquering fear on the scale that is possible with skydiving, IMHO, is extremely beneficial to ones impression of self. It has boosted my self confidence, my self reliance, and has made me a bit more of an extrovert to boot! (I can now boldly hang the middle finger out of the car window while driving and express myself to idiots who had it comming, or otherwise stand up to to more aggressive personalities which was difficult for me before).

I may be a bit biased here, I went through AFF at Eloy. I agree with others here, go to Eloy. The instructors and jump masters there are first rate, the weather is great, and I believe they do have a shuttle service from the airport in Phoenix. I would suggest, if you are serious, go to www.skydiveaz.com. There is information on services (shuttle etc), classes, rates and any additional information you may need. Blue ones!!! see ya at Eloy!!

I read somewhere that the consumption of beer will actually improve your intelligence. It helps to "kill off" weaker/older brain cells which are replaced by newer stronger brain cells. The analogy was that college students who were binge drinkers tended to do better and retain more after binge drinking as compared to students who did not or perhaps an established executive who did not drink and therefore had a head full of old dead brain cells. I will have to look around for the artical, it was in Time or the Scientific American or something.

Not a Brit, bit I would assume that it means roughly the same as the old yankee term Bull S**T.

Yeah, Im jellous, 77 jumps is more than my total, but at least its my home dz, and I can drive there in a little less than an hour lol. Congrats, I would have to agree, definatly current!! Isnt it snowing where you are right now? (hee hee) Blue ones!!

Look inside your gloves, thats where I keep mine. If you have a pair of shoes you use for jumping in look inside there. Look in your helmet. In case you started drinking early, look in the refrigerator. Hope you find it!!

WooooHooo!!! Congrats Skreamer!!! From experience, that smile you are wearing now will last for weeks!!! Blue ones!!!

I have had a jump that was a learning experience, I guess. It was just a few weeks ago, I felt the beginnings of a head cold (its still kinda lingering around like the Michigan funk!) and decided I would jump anyway. My nose started running just before jump run, I did like you and just kinda held it back a bit and exited. By the time I was @ 10k the snot was already streaking up both sides of my goggles, by 7K the right side of my goggles were full. It somehow comprimised the seal between my face and the goggles and worked itself between like right by where the goggles touch near the bridge of the nose. I could not see my formation and ended up flying almost completely blind. Not to mention, I had to breath through my mouth until under canopy. I learned not to jump with a runny nose.

I know there are a few pilots posting in these forums, I have an awesome link to some interesting avation pics. My father is a crash investigator and sends cool stuff to me all the time, these were good! Some of them make me kinda rethink using "comercial" air travel. http://www.aviationpics.de/

I have one more here that I think will put some of those wacky animals out there into perspective: A few years back some friends got themselves a new Doberman Puppy. He was great, they named him Roger. The dog and I got along great for a while, used to play with the dog all the time. As he got bigger, he started to almost wrestle with you! Anyway, this one particular day, it seems the wrestling was a bit more stimulating to the dog than usual and he managed to get around behinh me, hold me down with his front paws, and proceeded to "hump" like there was a rocket in his butt. I struggled and got away from him, luckily, he was close to 60-80 pounds by now and had those bedroom eyes all of the sudden. I sure was glad I was wearing jeans that day and not shorts like usual! Even more shocking, the people who owned him thought it was "funny" and did not even attempt to hold the dog back or anything. So, for the rest of the day, the dog followed me around sporting a "chubby" panting stoping only to lick himself. To this day, any time the dog sees me he throws me a doggy smile, sprots wood, and watches me intently for his next attempt. Needless to say, I dont visit those people much anymore!!

OK, I got one to add here. My bro has a cat, his name is Hobbs. He is the most worthless thing on four legs. He is very skiddish, the original "fraidy cat". Anyway, a few years back when he was considerably less afraid, I watched this cat pull one of the most aggressive moves ever. My niece, who was around 4 at the time, used to love to torment the poor kitty. The cat would sleep on the small couch we kept in the formal dining room by the kitchen. My niece would make a game of running through the kitchen into the formal dining room and poking, or touching the cat and then run away screaming. Well, one day the cat had had quite enough of this BS and decided that if she came by again, that was it. The next thing we hear is this blood curdiling scream and see my niece running through the kitchen on the return trip from the "kitty touch" and she has the cat on her back with claws burried deep in the shoulders intensly biting the back of my nieces head!! It was the funniest thing I ever saw, go kitty go!! All were un injured, but I think this led to some of the poor kitties issues.

To me its worth at least the price of a JT, $13 (boogie rate for a short sleeve with just a logo or something) $17 (standard Saturday model with logo and custom motto) Free t's for the forigners!?! lol There they go, looking for that "step up" again! Maybe we could send the t's with a care package, or have Sally Struthers raise money for the "poor forigners dorpzone.com t shirt foundation". lol Blue ones!!

I watched, it was pretty good. I thought the end was pretty good when the two AFF students got to jump. The one guy with the long hair busted me up!! He looked just like my bro on his first, all stiff and evrything. Then just goes blank, aaaahhh, I remember that feeling, how did he say it "like a raccoon in headlights" lol. Kudos to TLC on that one! Blue ones!!

I agree!! I love Skydive AZ. As a matter of fact, I am going there in just a few minutes. I got stuck working for a bit this morning (stupid work) but will be in the skies before long. Coolidge is also pretty cool (second favorite!)

Go man, go!! Dont let the man keep ya down!! (winks to the birds beginning to land around his desk)
-
Birds mock me all the time. As far as Im concerned they are only little flying bags of fecees. Why is it that they get to fly everywhere they go, I bet they dont even appriciate it! I bet if they had to walk everywhere they wouldnt be singing all the time, no, no, I bet they would bitch and moan just like the rest of us! I always laugh when I see a bird and its raining or really cold, or hot (hee hee see what you get!) Dont get me wrong, I dont want them hurt or anything, just even the playing field a little, ya know!

OK, no offense intended here, I thought this would be an appropriate place to share this: Ausssies: Believe you should look out for your mates. Brits: Believe that you should look out for those people who belong to your club. Americans: Believe that people should look out for and take care of themselves. Canadians: Believe that that's the government's job. Aussies: Dislike being mistaken for Pommies (Brits) when abroad. Canadians: Are rather indignant about being mistaken for Americans when abroad. Americans: Encourage being mistaken for Canadians when abroad. Brits: Can't possibly be mistaken for anyone else when abroad. Americans: Spend most of their lives glued to the idiot box. Canadians: Don't, but only because they can't get more American channels. Brits: Pay a tax just so they can watch 4 channels. Aussies: Export all their crappy programs, which no one there watches, to Britain, where everybody loves them. Americans: Love to watch sports on the idiot box. Brits: Love to watch sports in stadiums so they can fight with other fans. Canadians: Prefer to actually engage in sports rather than watch them. Americans: Will jabber on incessantly about football, baseball and basketball. Brits: Will jabber on incessantly about cricket, soccer and rugby. Canadians: Will jabber on incessantly about hockey, hockey, hockey, and how they beat the Americans twice, playing baseball. Aussies: Will jabber on incessantly about how they beat the Poms in every sport they played them in. Americans: Spell words differently, but still call it "English." Brits: Pronounce their words differently, but still call it "English." Canadians: Spell like the Brits, pronounce like Americans. Aussies: Add "G'day," "mate," and a heavy accent to everything they say Brits: Shop at home and have goods imported because they live on an island. Aussies: Shop at home and have goods imported because they live on an island. Americans: Cross the southern border for cheap shopping, gas and liquor in a backwards country. Canadians: Cross the southern border for cheap shopping, gas and liquor in a backwards country. Aussies: Are extremely patriotic to their beer. Americans: Are flag-waving, anthem-singing, and obsessively patriotic to the point of blindness. Canadians: Can't agree on the words to their anthem, when they can be bothered to sing them. Brits: Do not sing at all but prefer a large brass band to perform the anthem. Americans: Drink weak, pissy-tasting beer. Canadians: Drink strong, pissy-tasting beer. Brits: Drink warm, beery-tasting piss. Aussies: Drink anything with alcohol in it. Brits: Are justifiably proud of the accomplishments of their past citizens. Americans: Are justifiably proud of the accomplishments of their present citizens. Canadians: Prattle on about how some of those great Americans were once Canadian. Aussies: Wollow on about how some of their past citizens were once outlaw Pommies, but none of that matters after several beers. Americans: Seem to think that poverty and failure are morally suspect. Canadians: Seem to believe that wealth and success are morally suspect. Brits: Seem to believe that wealth, poverty, success and failure are inherited things. Aussies: Seem to think that none of this matters after several beers. Canadians: Encourage immigrants to keep their old ways and avoid assimilation. Americans: Encourage immigrants to assimilate quickly and dump their old ways. Brits: Encourages immigrants to go to Canada or America. Canadians: Endure bitterly cold winters and are proud of it. Brits: Endure oppressively wet and dreary winters and are proud of it. Americans: Don't have to do either, and couldn't care less. Aussies: Don't understand what inclement weather means. Aussies: Have produced comedians like Paul Hogan and Yahoo Serious. Canadians: Have produced many great commedians, like John Candy, Martin Short, Jim Carrey, Dan Akroyd, and all the rest at SCTV. Americans: Think that these people are American! Brits: Have produced many great comedians, but Americans ignore them because they don't understand subtle humor.

EARTH LIGHTS A friend sent me the following and it is pretty neat! This image is a panoramic view of the world from the new Boeing-built space station. You can scroll East-West and North-South. Canada's population is almost exclusively along the U.S. border. Moving east to Europe, there is a high population concentration along the coast of the Mediterranean. Check out the development of Israel compared to the rest of the Arab countries. Note the Nile River, The Outback of Australia and the TransSiberian Rail Route. Moving east, most striking is the difference between North and South Korea. Truly unique! It is an absolutely awesome picture of the Earth taken from the Boeing built Space Station. Pull up the following site: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0011/earthlights_dmsp_big.jpg
