  1. LOL...well its not every day I get to spell mannequin! "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  2. Well, they are typically found in displays in stores at the mall. They look somewhat realistic from the waist to the neck. I've even seen some with nipples! ...kinda like a blow-up doll, only plastic.
  3. Its alright, its just the sheer rediculousness of this idea that bothers me. I have no goals of flying for the airlines anyways. Oh, and if that happens, Cat II and Cat III ILS's will be on the up and up all over the country. Cat I isn't precise enough for autoland...

Sounds more liek a Monday then a Friday! "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  5. Manicans are expensive, Clay...they don't like you playing with those... "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."

Yeah, I bet there's got 3 or 4 of them laying around my parents house. Too bad you're in CA, I'd give you one. The shipping would cost more than a monitor. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  7. In an experimental situation? Yes. In the real world, I dont think so. And I still dont see how this increases security on any level whatsoever. I dont understand WHY this would be any better than having a human pilot fly it. Oh, and the day that all aircraft can be controlled by someone on the ground, is the day I put all my certificates and ratings into an envelope and mail them back to the FAA with a letter telling them where to shove them. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  8. I know several old guys who I could definitely picture pulling something like that, lol!!!
  9. In any case, I fail to see how a system like this would INCREASE airline security. In fact, this would just give people a false sense of security. The key to increased security is to not let the hijackers onto the aircraft in the first place. Once they get on, even with this system, they could still kill hundreds of people with ease. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  10. Can be done under extremely controlled conditions and with nobody on board the aircraft. Oh, and in the middle of the desert. I think they're gonna have a hard time making a remote control 767 and successfully flying them on a routine basis under every day conditions. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  11. Something tells me AggieDave can give you the scoop! "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  12. Guess I'd better not open it then, eh? Thats hilarious!!! "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  13. Whoa, thats cool! I didn't know you could hide! lol... "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  14. Wait a sec....you dont consider HH a moderator? "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  15. Kinda like that feeling you got in 5th grade when the teacher left the room for a few minutes- WAR!!!!! "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  16. I'm sorry. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  17. And another thing: I will garuntee you that this idea was pitched by someone who's never flown a plane under any "difficult" circumstances. What kind of difficult circumstances, you might ask? Well, to list a few: Shitty weather (lightning), turbulence, nasty crosswinds, wet/snowy/icy runways- all things that, for the most part, a pilot would have to be in the aircraft to avoid/handle. And how are they going to get ALLLL of this information FROM the cockpit TO the place where the ground controller is? Probably some sort of satellite link? Oh great, yes that would be wonderful. One small interruption in the link going 150 knots down the ILS at a few hundred feet AGL and these people are gonna be toast anyways. The longer I think about it, the more I hate this idea. I'll spare you all my rants about Bush himself. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  18. That is indeed a scary, and in my opinion, horrible idea. As a pilot, my job is to FLY the aircraft and ATC's job is to provide radar services. Mixing the two up is gonna be like trying to mix oil and water. And yes, I realize these wouldnt be your typical air traffic controllers, but its going to be extremely difficult for someone on the ground to determine whether or not such and such aircraft must be taken over. I don't want to have to worry about some "ground controller" intervening in the event of a hijacking. And I have a hunch that pilots will not take kindly to this. I would take firearms in the cockpit over this ANY DAY. In fact, I dont see how this even will help airline security. If a terrorist wants to kill a bunch of people, he can still do it no matter WHO is flying the plane. I think that the reinforced doors are a good step, and more federal air marshals as well. If they want even more security, train pilots to use firearms, and provide one for emergency use in the cockpit. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  19. Ya know, to be quite honest with you, I really hate that word too. I dont know why. Thanks HH!
  20. OK, so a few weeks ago I go to Lenscrafters to order new prescription sunglasses. Well, so much for their "ready in about an hour" campaign- they say it will take 2 weeks. Whatever. I decide to think about it. A few days later I come back and order a pair of Ray Bans. Their exact words were: "It takes up to two weeks." Fine, I'm not leaving for another 4 (at the time). As I'm getting ready to leave, she says: "Oh, you have to pay for these up front." Whatever, I grumble, but cut them a check for $165 (mind you, insurance paid for $178 of them- these arent cheap shades). Fast forward to last Friday- it hadn't quite been two weeks yet, but I call anyways because I will be at the mall (a 40 minute drive from my house) and if they're in I'd want to pick them up. "Nope, not here yet, should be in any day now- we'll call you when they get here," they tell me. So I wait. Until tuesday, then I call again (tuesday was 2 weeks). "Nope, not here yet- should definitely be in by thursday. We'll call you when they get here." Guess what? No calls today, so I call them up a few minutes ago. "Nope, not here yet- I dont know what to tell you. Call back tomorrow." Now I'm pissed. Royally. I want my sunglasses, or I want my money back until I actually have them in my hands. They refuse this request. Has anyone else here had trouble with prescription sunglasses from Lenscrafters? Is there anything I can do to get my money back until they come in? I called customer service and they said to call the manager, but the manager is the one whom I've been dealing with all along. Any advice? Anyone? P.S.- sorry for the long-ass rant, but I feel better now that I've ranted about it.
  21. So sorry to hear about your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts.... "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  22. THAT is hilarious. I think I just might have to try that one, lol. Thanks, Clay!!!
  23. I rarely bowl, but thats higher than most of the games I've ever bowled. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  24. Thats funny because those four things are all things a parent could prevent in the first place. When I was little, if I talked smart: if I swore: out comes the bar of soap to suck on. if I was lazy: every non-essential thing in the house got taken away- TV, phone, VCR, etc. until I went out an helped out on the farm. and my parents made me do at least some kind of work for everything I got, except for things at birthday and christmas. ...and I'm glad I was raised that way because I see a few too many people who were/are lazy, non-appreciative spoiled brats. "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
  25. Yes, yes you are... "If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."
