Congrats! I faxed in the form, and I just got a letter in the mail saying that I forgot to fax in my A license proficiency card. Oops. I'll send it Monday. I hope they are not jerks about the deadline being the 30th. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I have a friend who is a chiropractor, and I trust him. He went to chiropractic school, and is a doctor of chiropracty or whatever DC stands for. There are all kinds of doctors, not just medical doctors. Hell, dentists are doctors. I say go to the chriopractor and see what kind of vibe you get. If the guy seems on the up and up and helps you, then all good. If the guy is an idiot and does not help, then don't go back. And make sure that you do not have a medical condition that is making your back hurt (as mentioned earlier in the thread). Like others have said, chiropractors do their thing, and their thing is different from what doctors do. If you need one, one will help. If you do not need one, a reputable one will tell you that you don't. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

"In before the lock" means that you got a post in before a moderator locks the thread. Participation in large numbers of locked threads is the dz.com equivalent of flying a 60 square foot canopy. Why would this thread get locked, you ask? Well, one of the greenies here (Skymama) drives a minivan. The point of the thread is to bash minivan drivers. It is only a matter of time before someone bashes minivan drivers in general so creatively that she gets offended, or that someone starts their post with something like "Because skymama drives a minivan, she must be a [negative connotation words here]." This will be funny to everyone but her, and the next thing you know, there will be a little lock by the thread icon so you can't further expand on the sentiment that she is a [whatever it was]. You see, dz.com is the home of the slippery slope. No matter how innocently threads start, they are all destined to become discussions of who needs to post a picture of their boobs, bestiality, or gun control, depending on who hijacks the thread. In the old days, the skydiving discussions were mixed in with the non-skydiving discussions, so separating the wheat from the chaff was very difficult. You would click on a thread titled something like "what size canopy should I buy?" and the last 100 posts were about Clay getting it on with a farm animal, with maybe a couple of lewd comments about Lisa's boobs thrown in. There appears to be less of that now, but it still happens from time to time. Change, alas, is inevitable. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

When multiple assailants attack a single innocent, the total number who walk away does not matter. Only that the innocent does. If they decided to beat this guy to death, would it have been better that only one person was killed than if he had been forced to kill two or three of them to save himself? I do not disagree with you that misuse of firearms is a problem, and there is no place for bravado in the personality of a person who chooses daily carry as a lifestyle. Since I have carried a firearm on a daily basis, I have walked away from tons of situations that I might have stuck around a little longer for back when I did not. The responsible gun owner understands the consequences of choices and behaves accordingly. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Maybe Rush will be forced to go libertarian - we need someone to whom people will listen mindlessly. The Pubs and the Dems have plenty. We'll take Rush. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com -

I've asked about this on photo.net, and I got a lot of good responses. Basically, the Rebel and the Elan 7 series (including the 10D) have very similar AF systems. They do much better on subjects that are kind of far away (like 25 feet) than they do up close. The pro bodies do a better job up close, but the sad fact is that it is just as hard for the camera to stay focused on a guy doing 70 right by you as it is for you to focus manually on him. The software was written with the idea that the camera would be further from the action. I'm just going to start trying to put myself in a place where the camera is better able to do its part (i.e. further away) and I'll let you know if I get better results.
