The elevator goes all the way up at WTS about once every three months. Prebreathing, bailout bottle, the whole 9 yards. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

QT viewer worked for me, too. DAMN! You BASE guys open LOW. That canopy ride is way short. Cool video, though. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Recognizing that it is dangerous to post this before Quade posts the real facts from Canon, I'm going to speculate that the 1.6x cropping factor won't matter. My logic for this is that the 1.6x cropping factor happens in the camera, not the lens. The only thing that is really changing is the field of view, because the image sensor in the 10D is smaller than a frame of film. All the image sensor sees, since it is smaller, is the image from the center of the lens, while a piece of film will see more of the light coming through the lens. Taking a picture with a given lens on a 10D and printing it at 4x6 is just like taking it with 35MM film and then cutting the image down a little with scissors (to reflect the same field of view as the sensor on the 10D) and blowing it back up to 4x6. So you are not really changing the way light behaves through the lens, you are really just only getting the center of the image that would be on the film in your file. While 10D is probably capable of smaller circle of confusion numbers than film, I don't think it is going to make much difference in practice, since you'll want the slightly smaller circle of confusion because you'll have to "enlarge" at any given print size. If this makes no sense, send me PMs that call me dirty names. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Rent for a while, or buy used and big. A 1.3 WL with 6 jumps definitely puts you into the bold skydivers camp. As you have probably heard, there are old skydivers and bold skydivers, but not very many old, bold skydivers. And most of the skydivers you see who appear to be old and bold are actually not all that bold - they are just that damn good at it. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I love mine. Search the forums and read the reviews. I have 200 jumps on a Hornet 190 at just under 1.2 / just over 1.1 depending on the size of my lunch. I will never swoop it 400 feet, but it's a fun canopy to fly. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I think that particular cartoon is funny to skydivers because it is so close to true. You know that if all 4 members of AZ Airspeed had a broken leg, there would still be a lot of creeper dives going on. "Dude, watch out! You banged me in the head with your f^*&ing cast!" And when they got out of their casts, they'd have a few blocks mastered even better than before. My good buddy Yardhippie currently has a busted leg. He went to Rantoul for nig-noggery anyway, and he darn near got hiself killed, cast and all, trying to get video of the latenight goings-on. BTW, his high-speed golf cart video is hilarious and well worth a watch if you catch him at the dz. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

So, Narcimund, are you going to start dating women, or are you a terrorist? This is an awesome way to argue! I hope it works as well when I use it on my boss ... "So can I get a raise, or are you a terrorist?" Heh. You are very right about this type of argument, although the adult version of it takes many more forms than what you've pointed out here. Most arguments that rely on an appeal to goodness are at least close cousins of this. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

I did not join the NRA until I was an adult. My beliefs are based on the fact that I was brought up in a home where I was taught to apply logic to decisions, rather than thinking of social goals that would be good to achieve (less crime), then supporting nonsensical approaches to achieving those goals (no black guns - they are scary scary scary, and I saw on a movie directed by a famous left winger that they are somehow different from the "good" guns, and it was a "documentary"). Do you believe that the current assault weapons ban has reduced or prevented crime? If so, by how much? ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Purposely screwed up landings..?

He landed off to the side of the normal landing area, and we were jumping a Cessna, so there were only five of us landing anyway. It was not as dumb a move as I may have made it sound. It was funnier to watch than I could have possibly made it sound. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
