    3d Pong!

It is easier when the game is fast - I keep getting "aced" at the beginning - whenever I lose a point I lose about three in a row getting aced. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

    KKK Initiation

In the local news last night, it was reported that this was an "I picked up the wrong gun" incident. Story here was that the shooter, being a mite tipsy, thought he was shooting the guy with a paint ball, missed a tad high, and wound up shooting dude in the head. Could be speculation on the part of the local news and better fact-checking by cnn, or it could be that the klan's "fact management" division has spun the story some to protect the stupid. Still a pretty odd incident, either way it went down. Speaking of, I wonder the Klan has a "forums" section on their website where members are currently discussing what could be done to avoid incidents like this in the future. Example: Poster #1: This all goes back to the firing of the shot into the air. We gotta shoot blanks when we do this stuff. Poster #2: I have been to hundreds of initiations, and this never happened before. Clearly the root cause of this incident was that the guy was directly in the path of a bullet. As I have said a hundred times - DO NOT STAND IN THE PATH OF A BULLET! Geez, when are you idiots going to catch on? Poster 3: A flat trajectory shot into an area known to be unoccupied might have prevented this incident. Oh well. Maybe not. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

  12. I have the 200/ 2.8 II and it is awesome. It is not so heavy as to be horribly unwieldy, but I wouldn't want to carry it around all day. In about a million attempts to take pictures of swoopers coming straight at me with the blurred background that only a wide aperture can provide, I have learned that those guys who get shots published in Sports Illustrated are much better at this than I am. 15. Don't let Judy see this thread - she is still mad because he shut down our dz for half a day when he was down in Mississippi. We were outside his airspace, but we got shut down anyway because some crazy woman rammed her car into the building where he was giving the speech. Not a political statement or anything - she was just mad and rammed her car into a wall, and it happened to a wall around the building where the Pres was. I am sure whe was surprised by how quickly the police responded.... ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  16. Hyperfocal distance is always less than infinity. Edited to Add - as you move the focus ring past the hyperfocal distance toward infinity, you are sharpening the focus on things that are far away more than you will be able to see in your prints (so getting no real benefit), while you are softening closer objects dramatically. 18. The degree to which the focus ring needs to be in the correct spot for a given shot depends on two things - the focal length of the lens and the aperture setting. In general, longer focal length means that focus needs to be more precise at a given distance. You can't easily change your focal length, so we'll ignore that. While lots of people have great luck with Tv mode, they will admit that they are shooting either in full sunlight or with fast film (or both). These make the camera select a smaller aperture (bigger number on the display), which decreases the sensitivity of the shot to the focus setting on the lens. If I were you, I would slow the shutter speed down a little (125 will be fine), since 400 film is about as fast as you want to go without things getting grainy on you. The next thing to remember is that for every focal length and aperture combination, there is a focus setting called the hyperfocal setting, where everything from a certain distance (the hyperfocal distance) to infinity will be in acceptable focus. Search for "hyperfocal distance calculator" on google and you'll find a bunch of these. As a rule of thumb, though, if you focus on infinity and then pull the focus back a little, you'll be close as long as the aperture is pretty small. Also, at 35mm, you are a little longer than most folks in terms of focal length for freefall, so you will have more focus problems than people with 24mm or 28mm lenses. Do what you can to stop the lens down, set the focus ring at the hyperfocal distance, and you should get better results. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

  25. I got a message from nubain1 yesterday thanking everyone on here for their vibes and concerns. The message was upbeat, and he seems to be doing well. He has been doing some jumping in South Carolina, and he has a new girlfriend that he is trying to persuade to skydive with him. He found out that the posts about his pending suicide were made by his teenage stepsister who was mad at him about something. So anyway, it appears Clint is doing OK.
