International license for instructors
SkymonkeyONE replied to ralu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The problem, in my opinion, is the WIDE disparity in how each discipline is trained to completion. If everyone from every dropzone in every state of every country trained the same sylabus, they maybe an international license could work. Figure the odds though. Hell, in the USA we can't even settle on one cellphone format, thus we all have to settle for second rate systems and phones, unlike Finland, Japan, and most of Europe who have better phones, better coverage and pay less. As for the skydiving instructional ratings: there is just no way that you are going to convince countries like the US and Britain that they need to change their systems, or that they should compromise the integrity of their instructor training programs to accomodate travelling skydivers. Just my opinion as someone who has globetrotted quite a bit. Chuck -
Nice job, Kate! Very stylish.

But, alas, they have no hats....
-
Correct. I just ran the old URL and it's now owned by a vintage race team...WTF? Oh well, anyway, they are made at the Indianapolis Raceway, by one of the carbon fiber racecar body shops. Not sure if the lack of link indicates the shop has gone under or not. It might be worth a try to get the phone number for the business (Apache Racing) and try to give them a call. Chuck

Likewise available is the newly rebuilt/renovated loft at Raeford Parachute Center. Master Rigger/DPRE Eddie Spears has retired (sort of) and closed down the business formerly known as "The Auger Inn" here on P.K. Airpark. We are looking for an FAA master rigger to come here and get to work. We have an awful lot of business here and in the general area and need someone with the ambition to rig full-time. Call the dropzone at (910) 904-000 and we can talk more. Chuck Blue D-12501 Manager, Raeford Parachute Center School

hey, Dumbascus, are you Syrias? Do a search or just read a parachutist or skydiving magazine from about two years ago; they advertised every month.

Nice. I was just hanging outback of the school and saw that the Time Warner Cable guys were running mine and Matt's hard-lines for our RoadRunner! NOICE! We will have digital cable and roadrunner out on the plantation tomorrow. Excellent.

Yes, I instantly recognized the majority of them as having been taken in Key West during fantasy fest. There are several places on Duval where they do body painting. First (where several of the pics look like they are taken) is upstairs from The Bull, in The Garden of Eden (a clothing optional bar on the roof). Another bunch look like they were taken farther down near the 800 block of Duval and done by Rafael (who tattoos at Paradise Tattoo on Stock Island). Fantasy fest is at least as fun as Mardi Gras in my opinion, plus the weather is generally better. Chuck

That's right! I forgot to even mention the Saturday evening entertainment. As I stated in the earlier posts, my friend Bob Steele had his blues jam on Saturday night. He absolutely kicks ass and put on a great show for us that night. Chuck

Ontario is definitely closer, but I have always found substantially cheaper rates into San Diego and LAX. My last three trips out there were into San Diego. Our extensive dropzone.com family has accomodated me with rides everytime I asked. Gotta love this shit! Chuck

I was totally remiss in my duties as DZ beer enforcer/Pie smasher. I will attack when you all least suspect it, so don't be surprised when it happens. Chuckie

Well, personally, I think if I were going to spring for a rigid wing, I think I would be more interested in the Apache. It's made here in the USA (thus more easily accessible for us here), costs about the same, and appears it be easier to fly and ditch if you lose control. You lay on top of an Apache. Chuck

How much fun can a Sabre 2 190 be loaded at 1:1?
SkymonkeyONE replied to Viking's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Arthur, lend me your parachute and I will show you what is possible with a big parachute. A good pilot can do incredible things with just about anything. Too lazy to pack one day while on vacation, I picked up my dad's extra rig at the end of the day (Sabre 210), and promply swooped it clear across the landing area. It's all about just learning how to gain enough velocity in order to convert it to longer distance once around the corner. Chuck -
Military freefall jumps absolutely DO count. Chuck

HOLY SHIT! Raymond Adams MARRIED? Nice! I saw Brigett at Eloy over Christmas at the holiday boogie. Anyway, I hope to see you this year on tour; I need a haircut! Chuck Blue

You just hit the nail on the head: DEMO everything you can get your hands on. PD has 500 demos, all on risers and in bags with pilot chutes. It's a no-brainer to get canopies from them, so call and try that Stilleto and a Sabre 2 in the same size. Chuck

Get on it, son! Hooty HOO!

My (and LouDiamond's) weekend Birdman fun! (VIDEO)
SkymonkeyONE replied to kevin922's topic in The Bonfire
Damn, Jess! You should have put the huck-a-buck on him at Eloy. -
You mean she left her monkey hat unsecured?

Eric: thanks for the wicked airblade! Noice! Kris: now you know that it's plenty possible for someone to stay with you head-down in a comp suit with booties. Sunshine: Thanks for providing the entertainment on Saturday night. Mouth: Thanks for remembering to bring Katie's sticker. Everyone else: thanks for coming; I has very happy to see/meet you all, even though I made a poor, un-monkey-like, not typical showing due to whatever bug got me. See you all in the future. Chuckie

Schtum: "Skydiver" Gwar: "Maggots" Both outstanding speed-metal type songs that go well with tightly edited video. Not so good for those editors who like to dub a lot of slo-mo footage. Chuck

"Gimme summa that shocklik milt!"

I am sick as a dog and have been for the better part of three days. I can't stand to miss out on fun, but no amount of alcohol was able to kill this bug. It must also be noted that everyone can thank me for being able to jump yesterday afternoon. My sacrifice to the beer gods during the bad mid-day weather was successful in clearing the skies. The weather ended up being fantastic late in the day. This morning is likewise great, but the uppers are really pushing. Hopefully we will get some nice loads together. That, of course, after everyone else crawls back to the DZ. Chuck

Windblades in deep water how-to?
SkymonkeyONE replied to blueshrew's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
What most people use in deeper water is a round piece of styrofoam or open-cell foam. In in the center, you cut a hole big enough to either insert a piece of PVC pipe big enough to insert your airblade base, or just the airblade itself. The PVC method works fine, because you need a way to secure the thing. Drill a hole in the bottom of the PVC pipe and affix some poly-e rope. Attach the other end to a lead clump or a small bucket filled with cement. You make adjustments to the length of rope at the PVC/foam circle end. Oh yeah, the foam circles I have seen commonly used were about four inches thick and about 30 inches in diameter. Chuck -
Last standing yesterday evening (or should I say "this morning") were MattM and Droopy. BootyMonkey hung in there until I ran them all out of The Rancho Deluxe. MattM, MonkeyLip, and Droopy were on the first load this morning at about 7:30. MonkeyLip left a divot in the landing area yesterday, so we got him back on the horse first thing this morning. Wind, wind, go away. Chuckie
