It looks like we have gone two different directions in this thread... Cuting away your reserve with your hook knife if it is deployed and wrapped around the tail... And hook knifing your malfunctioning reserve that was damaged, but now clear of the trail. In the Miami incident the reserve canopy was already freed from the tail but it was damadged. If I was stuck on the trail I would spend the rest of my life trying to cut myself off! Hopefully the pilot and the rest of the load will be able to bail out! Try to deploy the main and pray. Chances are things will go to shit before you completely free the reserve. I would rather have a partially inflated reserve, and a chance to deploy my main. Line tension is life... when you lose it you go from pilot to passenger! Brian G.'s book has a great couple of pages on maintaining line tension so you can stay in control of your parachute. Avoid quick turn reversals, and build toggle turns progressively instead of quickly pulling them down. This allows the suspended weight, you, to keep up with the rate of turn. Tandems take maturity and experience. Part of that is realizing that it is a good idea all around to wait until you have those three years in the sport. My time is up in April. By your metric, the only professional skydivers are the handful of guys doing movies. None of the AFF-Is or DZOs count. I live with young children, not my blood, but I still lend a hand in the parenting. I don't think the kids are morons, they are just kids, and they act the way you raise them to act. What do people expect. Their kids don't listen under calm conditions in their own homes. How the hell are they going to be able to listen when a mob mentality kicks in. I was hoping some locals, or at least some regular visitors could point me in the right direction. The last time I was in Eloy there was a pay wireless internet connection. Last year it didn't appear to be very fast or reliable, no offense to the operator, but I was wondering if the service had improved? If I can get a decent internet connection I am going to bring my laptop so I can stay up todate at work and webcam people back at home. If the connection is still spotty I will save myself the aggrivation of hauling to AZ. What about the gym that is on the DZ.
