DougH replied to sky-pimp's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Can't turn more than 90 at the boogie either. But it is still waaaaaay worth it. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

Eloy. Florida is just too unpredictable weather wise. Plus if the winds do pick up for a day or two it is only a 5 minute walk to the tunnel. I am going to be at the entire boogie this year. =) "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
I think am the friend Les is referring to, unless he is talking about my friend Matt who has my rig's clone. I had a 132 Mamba in the I5 for 150 or so jumps. No problems, I just tightened up the closing loop a good deal. I have had a 117 in there as well but it is starting to get soft. I think this is one of the real advantages of where the Icon has the closing loop mounted. You get a ton of range. Mine has had from a 188 to a 117 all in the same container with good closing loop tension.

I remember watching video of a VRW team with a custom full faced skysystems video setup. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

How much does a call to Pakistan cost a minute? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Way to kiss and tell.... "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Congrats! It is pretty cool after reading all your posts along the way to see you reach that first milestone! Keep it fun and safe! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Ding ding ding... winner! Sure these parachutes save our lives, but they are pretty durable, and their mechanics are very straight forward. I don't want some one inspecting or exploring my gear when I am not there, but I am not overly concerned about some one moving it because I know how durable it is, I know its failure modes, and I know how it works well enough to give it a full inspection and can insure that it is in proper working order! No. Don't leave your shit lying around and no one will mess with it. It is nylon, not a baby. It wasn't harmed one bit moving it from one place in to the other. At worst you have a step through now, but any attentive packer will notice that when they finally get around to packing it instead of leaving it sit around! Is that the anwser you were looking for. That is what I was looking for, thanks Dave! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I could have sworn that there was a thread that explained how to decode the model information and figure out the canopy sizing for the reflex containers. I couldn't find it with a search or two so I am hoping some one can shed some light on the model number for me. The container is a R325-5 (or maybe R325-S?). I need to figure out the reserve and main pack tray volume, or at least the recomended canopy size. (i.e: 1xx PDR). Thanks!! Doesn't look like he had many options once he was at that point. It looks like his pattern was planned so his final was over the outfield wall so he could avoid flying final over the crowd in the stands. Should I assume that the jumper was also flying into a strong wind? Once he found himself in that position he was on final and didn't have a lot of time to adjust. Maybe rear risers once on final to try to flatten the glide and clear the outfield wall? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I don't really see how it matters if he is cool with it or not if your cutaway gear screwed up an expensive piece of farm equipment. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

And you are suprised? I have experienced this directly myself. If there was no FAA rule to wear seatbelts then a large percentage of skydivers wouldn't use them despite all evidence supporting their use. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I was under the impression that whisky stopped aging when bottled. So unless the 75 was a special year of extra good whisky, it won't be worth a ton. Maybe I am wrong though, and it is more valuable simply because there aren't alot of bottles of 33 year old whisky lying around? Keep it simple. Keep your lines under tension and do not turn faster than you canopy can follow. I agree Gabor, and it isn't hard to avoid. Toggle input should be gradual and progressive. You need allow your body to keep up with the turn. If you hammer a toggle down you can end up with a turn rate that your body can't keep up and you are going to find yourself in line twists. What does a powerful flare have to do with it being acceptable or unacceptable for your to fly? If you are going that route to justify the choice you might as get one of those new sub 100 cross braced canopies crw that they are working on. Is there an echo in here? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Notice that Spot mentioned that he has 400 or so "ipod" jumps with no problems, but over 1000 jumps in total. He can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think he was trying encourage you to actually do this at your current jump numbers. You are going to be busy concentrating on not killing yourself for the next handful of jumps... one thing at a time. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I am thinking about going this way on my Mamba. If I snap a brake line it won't be pretty. The dacron will be pretty stable as far as shrinking goes right? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I recommend you put it on the ground, it will be safe, and we will all be safer. Thanks for playing.

I won't hang a guy for a mistake, I make plenty, but none of those are "legit explanations". They are are variables of the jump and they need to be factored into the dive flow so the demo can still go off without a hitch! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I can't repeat the name of my canopy around polite company. I usually only call it by its actual name when it doesn't something I don't like on opening. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

erroneous information found in SIM - Maybe

Lol. Then shut up and jump. Shesh. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Skydive U had a Tunnel AFF progression, don't know if they still do this. I believe it started with a level 1 jumps, and then moved into the tunnel for a little bit. Personally I did level 1, then I got some time in the Orlando tunnel while down in Florida for business. I think it helped, and by then I knew I wanted to continue before I plunked down the $$$ on the tunnel time. I would go do your level one first, then run the idea by your instructors.
