Premiere CS series will manage the videos thru Bridge. You don't need to transcode. (nor for FCPX, either. Only Studio and older versions of the OS require it). There is nothing on the Mac quite like PMB, but Adobe Bridge is very close.

As Matt mentioned; the longer bridle is important IF you're going to be jumping bigger suits. P2; you're fine at 6' for a while. How you fold/pack the PC plays a very large role in this conversation as well. Modding the corners isn't a big deal. It has benefits (this from a guy with all 4 of 5 rigs having cut corners) PC size is another consideration. What size is your PC? What can your BOC manage? Simply adding a bigger PC is not optimal; have filmed a couple hard pulls and know of a few related to larger PC/tight BOC. Any mods/longer bridle shouldn't affect your normal jumps. All of my rigs have long bridles; all are used for video and AFF jumps as well as wingsuiting.

I'm confused by your comment about playback from the Sony in "real time." It *only* plays back real time. If you mean you'd like the p120 to play back at 30p, this needs to be done in post. Any post tool can speed it up by x2 or x4, but the flags are correctly set in the Sony camera to playback as what we call "overcrank" in the production world. Some of the other cameras play p60 as p30, but this is not considered "correct."

you should be able to have both. I frequently do. Tandem videos are often SD, other things HD. The camera properly references both the TS folder and the Stream folder. Your laptop should show both as well. If you have an older laptop, CPU cycles may not be fast enough to decode HD, regardless of bitrate. It's also quite possible that an antivirus is preventing full frame playback. Also, be sure nothing is running in the background (email, other memory-eating tasks)

Sony Action Cam - GoPro competitor (HDR-AS10 and HDR-AS15)
DSE replied to soulbabel's topic in Photography and Video
Demo vids=a lot of post, tweaks in camera. It's a great lil' camera, please don't misunderstand. What it isn't, is significantly better than previous offerings (excepting audio, the FFT works well, but then again, Sony and RePlay already had this feature long, long before GP). With this many POV cams in my kit, I feel I have a pretty un-biased view of them. Unlike most of the folks posting all the great stuff about the various cameras, I have to pay for them (including the Sony cams). -
Have you upgraded to Mountain Lion? Use Adobe Premiere.

There should have been a placard in the box telling you where to download the manual (link provided in above post) Leave W/B in automode for best results; however the camera does tend to over, rather than under expose. You can also tweak it in ProTune.

Sony Action Cam - GoPro competitor (HDR-AS10 and HDR-AS15)

I'm not Trunk, but am doing a comparison of the cameras that won the shootout Part 1. 4K is measurebation. It's 15fps, so useless for any high motion unless stop-motion/stutter is part of your art. 2K is more useful, but again, at an expense. If the editing system can't manage 2 or 4K (most can't), there is little point (don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of 4k, just not in this particular environment. The chip gets hot as hell, and battery life is terrible, and the framerate is not smooth. Bigger pictures/jerky frames = viewer headache. So far, my impression of the GP3 is that it's very nice but it certainly doesn't match the hype that has preceded its launch. The Silver...might as well just keep the GP2. I returned mine this morning. -
Awesome pic!

expect to see more mount options available from third party and Sony in the next month. There are some cool new 3rd party options for GP coming soon too. RePlay is offering even more options (they have the most in different grades. Seems this is the year of POV. -
Folks are welcome to keep posting pix. However, I do want to make it clear that this contest was over a couple years ago; dead-thread revival.

Sony sells the front piece/cover for 15.00 in a 3 pack, so it's not a big deal to push out the lens or drill out the cover for better mic pickup. -
Wish you'd been here too, Pat. Super weather, super scores, and a great time had by all. Thanks to our sponsors: Sony Creative Software Sony Electronics RePlay Cameras Delta Gear Larsen and Brusgaard VASST Paralog FlySight Phoenix-Fly and Skydive Elsinore. Pilots, manifest, Sydney all did a great job keeping us rolling. Tony kept us all fed. Scotty B. kept everyone laughing, Big thanks to Klaus, Michael, and Kenny for judging. Thanks to Scott Smith Competition chair/ USPA for helping with award presentations (He got smoked by Scott Callantine on the Open Challenge) Many smiles, good vibes, unicorns/rainbows/sparkly shit everywhere.

There is also no audio in the p60mode either. However, there are many mounts available that the reviewer on youtube either conveniently or ignorantly missed. While no other company offers the number of mount options that GP has, that's in great part because no other company needs them. Most everyone else uses a 1/4 thread, and to ignore the literally thousands of mounts using these threads is simply silly. There was no sponsorship, payment, incentive involved in this straightforward shootout. No camera tweaks (available to nearly all the cameras) were employed, and only "what's in the box" is a part of the effort to keep things as objective as possible. Sony, Drift, Contour, JVC all use the 1/4 thread. If mount availability for non-threaded mounts is a serious consideration, RePlay has far more mount options than any two manufacturers combined, both in low-cost plastic and high-grade billet aluminum. And can survive a drop from ridiculous heights. But...it isn't the best image of the four main competitors.

Look soon for a "second half" of the article with the GoPro3, Sony, RePLAY XD, and Contour 2 as the test cams. I wish GoPro would have allowed us to publish the 3, but we were two weeks too early for their launch. In the HD modes, the GP3 is quite similar to the GP 2, with better audio.

At the Performance Cup at Skydive Elsinore today, Scotty Burns set a new world benchmark for speed, and Scott Callantine set a new world benchmark for Distance. Comp is running smooth as silk; weather incredible, two more rounds in the Cup and we'll be finished with at least two new records in the Performance Events/Challenge. Couldn't be more proud of two friends.

Some dude once said "Learn to love your belly before you begin exploring your butt." Regardless of what discipline you go into later on, belly skills are essential and beneficial. Working daily with a world-champion freeflier, I often overhear people ask "What should I do to prep for being a great free-flier?" Every time; "Stay on your belly for as long as you can, do the Excel camps, do four-way, jump with others on your belly as much as you can."
-
Your memory may be full. It's only good for approx 200 jumps. It's not a dedicated logger like the Altitrack. "3 Jump Counter Electronic logbook, storing and displaying information about the last 200 jumps. - Can be used as an aid to track the amount of jumps performed on a rig. - Can be reset at any time, but time and date for the last reset remains stored and cannot be erased."

It hasn't been a secret by any stretch. Odd that the article suggests it was.

With the Hawaii event coming up, it seems prudent to re-post these. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8zv5DKreic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy81lCGeTZc

Plenoptics/light field are available now (was one of the early suckers for the Lytro), but they're off by more than 1-2 years in quality... IMO, UHDTV is what has killed 3D, kind of what we expected to kill 3D, even though I'm a fan of some things in 3D (and it's a heckuva lot of fun for geeks). 4K...it's the NBT. HEVC is already moving fast. Were you at the NHK opening? Musta been great. Saw 8K at IBC year before last, it was spectacular.

NO ADVERTISING on the forums By the time the book hits the streets, I'll wager 25% of this forum participants have already quit the sport....It's due to be published in 2013 (read above). But...you can pre-order a pre-order by slipping 25cents in your almost useless DVD tray.

Displays...Available now (if you're rich/famous) Cheaper in July of 2013, reasonable by Jan 2014. Delivery...Available now over YouTube, soon Vimeo. It'll never go to disc, bitrate way too high for optical delivery. Korea is starting to test 4K, Japan is already actively testing it. HEVC is here, still young but here. Demand...a ways off. It'll be 2015 before it's a beginning standard for consumers... But it did effectively kill 3D very fast. It is very cheap to produce/edit/deliver. It has hit mainstream in its infant stages (GoPro's crummy 15fps, soon to use HEVC for 30fps). It's a great buzzword for measurebators. I'd not advocate DZ's look at 4K for at least 3-4 years...but I do advocate people buy my book on 4/8K.
-
Expect prices to drop even lower. JVC will be launching their new 4K with lens mounts...and more from others too. I'm just finishing up a new book on UHDTV/4K/8K and in the process of writing, 3 new cameras have been floated. Amazing to see how fast 4k is rolling.

been done. Good luck with an open face. This was a phased system, worked reasonably well. I use AT wireless systems for coaching. Open face is difficult, noise is unfortunately not constant so FFT doesn't work very well. Be close, be aware there is as much wind from above (burble) as below the mic/mask/chincup. Proximity is everything.
