  1. Their customer support has diminished as they've grown. Difficult for me to even reach friends inside the company these days. But...they're now a billion $$ company, sold in Walmart, no longer a bunch of awesome guys hanging out at sporting events. However...they do generally turn product around very fast. I sent in a Black just before Christmas, had a new one arrive today. It took 3 days for customer service to send me my RMA#. Good luck~!
  2. And with that comment, the thread goes from humorous to hysterically hilarious.
  3. everything sounds kosher then....card class is right, you've taken out the battery... Head back to the store for a replacement, were I you.
  4. Pull the battery, leave it out for a minute. What is your computer OS? Card type?
  5. Remembering Day today... You are not forgotten, Dan.
  6. Another reason for not cutting away (and an argument for preparing for a PLF) is that you might think you know how deep the water is vs what the reality is. Chopping over very shallow water, even if it's just a couple of feet, speeds your descent. One might find themselves with a broken ankle or worse, and in cold water. In case the changes in the SIM have not been noted, it did change in the past two years. Note that it now mentions that the container may be used as a flotation device if the reserve is intact, rather than insisting that the rig be left behind/swim away from the rig.
  7. i'd recommend you show your setup to the S&TA or an experienced cameraflyer on the dz before jumping it.
  8. Very nice pix, Wolfgang! Great way to introduce yourself. Those wingsuit pix would be awesome, if it weren't for that dude in orange messing up the background. Thanks for sharing.
  9. This bears repeating... You've already discovered you might not know what you don't yet know. I've gotten lazy in updating the camera incidents thread, but there are quite a few yet to go up. IMO, jumping any camera setup without a means of jettisoning the helmet is too risky. Learn to fly first. Reading the Small Camera Incidents thread is highly recommended.
  10. Mike, I drive down there from time to time; they're about 15 mins from Skydive Elsinore. If you want to send em' to me, I'll walk them in to Mark on my next trip. I'd like to change out some lenses on a pair I've got, it'll give me an excuse. They've always been great to the crew at the DZ, very cool about walkins. I've never shipped anything to them though. They charge 40-60.00 to change out lenses, I'm sure hinges aren't much.

  12. The rigging loft at Skydive Elsinore has a great deal of experience repairing/modifying wingsuits. Chris Warnock (Parachutist on DZ.com) has a fair amount of experience. Pete Swan in Lodi probably has the most experience of everyone combined. If you're looking to extend the booties, it's not horrible. Much past that gets into heavy time (and $$).
  13. And if a line wraps the assembly, and you have no helmet cutaway, you'll probably wish the sticky tape was all you'd used. It's been demonstrated that sticky tape is plenty strong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsEI_6cErbM Cameras are cool, until they create problems. Adding a screw may well compound another problem.
  14. Does your helmet have a cutaway system?
  15. Greg Gafrin (Bad Religion) has a PhD in Zoology, and a "bird-bug" named after him (I don't recall why/what it looks like). Frank Zappa didn't complete his PhD, although there is a PhD program designed around his music. He too, has a life-form named for him (a kind of Jellyfish/Phialella zappai) Most would recognize Tom Scholz of "Boston," who holds a Masters in Engineering, and recently completed his PhD after retiring from music manufacturing industry (selling off Scholz Research & Development, Inc.)
  16. Man...I sure wish you'd move forward with that case. I'd be in for a few. Jarno, Robi, and I are not having any issues with the cameras at all. Nor are the tandem videographers using them at quite a few DZ's. As mentioned the day you received it, I suspect you got a dud. And I'm still happy to take it upstream for you. The next gen of the camera isn't terribly different, but having a higher bitrate would certainly be better, especially in low light or panning motion. However, Robert Pecnik's challenge with the camera is easily the most difficult challenge to throw at any POV cam (smoke, high motion background, static foreground, low contrasts, straight lines). The footage is amazing.
  17. Think again. I got bridle knotting with PF-Stealth and classic(student) deployment. Full flight has smaller burble than classic with a huge suit. I moved back to full flight deployments and no more knots. Your definition of "classic student position" and Gerhardt's may differ. You had knots on more than one deployment??
  18. in your case, it's dubious that higher bitrate would have fixed the issue. Rolling shutter shows up too, if you snag the video and play it back slow. All of the cams have issues; I feel I tested them thoroughly (and the review would have been much longer, were there time and space to post every test). In the case of what Jarno posted, and in the Need For Speed videos, there is constantly changing, high speed shifts in backgrounds, and exceptionally high motion in backgrounds that no skydiving video will ever see. It looks great. As mentioned in a previous thread, early releases of the camera had some issues; having a prototype, an initial release, and a much later release shows slight differences. It's pretty rare I'll disagree with Trunk/Mark on his opinions of a camera, but in this one, I disagree entirely, and further, would point out that Trunk is a dealer for GoPro, just as I'm a consultant to Sony Creative Software with some contacts within the Sony Consumer Imaging division. In case it wasn't read earlier, I also pay for my Sony cams, just like everyone else.

  20. What famous rock star has a bug named for him, holding a PhD and a second Masters?
  21. I chose two Curvs because of the comfort, and the way the reserve packs (every rigger that has packed my Voodoo raves about it). I chose it for the re-design of the closing loop channel, allowing the pin to be more discreet and less likely to be moved when sliding around the wall of the aircraft. I bought it because of the new way the articulated legstraps balance better and more comfortably, and comfortable, balanced legstraps helpe reduce linetwists (very important in a wingsuit rig). The way RI does dynamic corners for wingsuits is very well thought-out, different than most everyone else). I'm spoiled, all my reserve rides have been in RI harness'. The main tray packs and closes easily, and looks sweet closed up. I like how the overall look, too.
  22. Wow. I'm surprised to read from a guy that doesn't own either camera positioning a firm opinion about what one should/shouldn't buy. If webposts are the litmus test, there are tens of thousands of posts about problems with the GP3. Trunk opened his camera up. Sony apparently knew this. It voids the warranty. It's likely the camera was defective; all camera companies have defective cameras. GoPro and Atom both have defective cameras of mine. Flip side, I own roughly 60 action cams. Lots of jumps with them. Zero problems with the color, WB, or exposure in the Sony cams. Same can be said for Storage Wars LA, Texas, NYC, Parking Wars, and a host of other shows (yes, they're being used for broadcast). I'm not a Sony dealer, nor a GP dealer, nor a dealer for any camera company. Of the four AS15's I have, I paid for three of them. In other words, no dog in the hunt. I do like the Sony and the Replay better. Yet I have more GP cameras than any other camera.
  23. Relevant video. https://vimeo.com/55726986 Don't know the wingloading, but canopy size+wingsuit size are relevant.
  24. Bluhdow, The streams can be split easily in post. Seeing this camera as a "competitor" to having two of any other camera is a mistake. Two of any other camera will set one back at least 500.00, and the streams have to be synced in post. Two of any other camera will be a significantly greater snag point compared to this small camera. This is a stand-alone camera with no competitors. It's not perfect for any situation; it was mentioned two cameras in one housing offer compromises. However, it's a terrific creative tool, is at a very reasonable price point, and is yet another option for people needing unique views.
