  1. Are military rigs subject to the same regs as civilian rigs? Are military riggers subject to the same rules as civilian riggers?
  2. Actually, yes there is Again: http://blog.centrenad.com/?lang=en I stand corrected. They did an amazing job of continuing the noise fields. Then again, it's also low rez/high compression. (I need an excuse for being so sure of myself).
  3. There is no CGI, the noise matches from line to line. However...it could be a baited dummy, eagle grasps the dummy, camera points to ground, continues the runup off subject, until arriving at the subject. I agree with Quade; fishy. Kid's body reactions seem 'off' for the impact and drop.
  4. Wow, it sounds like you can track pretty far in those. 1.7 miles with about a 45 degree tailwind. Maybe turning back after about a half mile would have helped, but well, lesson learned. Plot your navigation as a 90/90...spotting for a track is pretty important, particularly when you're wearing tracking pants or tracking suit. Trackers often go out after tandems, if their flight path is a 90/90.
  5. Then reduce the resolution or frame rate of the content. If it's an e-card, it doesn't need to be large, 12-15fps is common for cards/embeds.
  6. It's not about doing the sport justice; it's about the experience. It's about the student. There are far too many tandems that are shot by a vidiot wanting to have their own fun than about taking shots that capture the student's experience. If the vidiot has enough experience to be flying head down, backflying, or sitting through the entire skydive, it's unlikely they'll be asking questions about angles. If the skills are present, then of course yes,...various angles that may only be captured while freeflying are certainly valuable when tastefully used. Then again...with more tunnel rats getting into the sky, I could be way off base in my assumption. As a side note, check out the vids that Norman Kent, Joe Jennings, and similarly-skilled people create for tandems. They're simple in terms of what the camera flyer is doing, and yet they tell a memorable story because of the establishing, closeup, and action angles taken.
  7. Have you had experience with the poured/molded foam Robi has put in the leading edge of the newer suits? Doesn't break down like the foam that both Robi and Tony have used in the past. So far, the only drawback to it that I've found is that it is warmer on the skin in the summer months, but appreciable in the cooler months. Has a different feel in-flight, too.
  8. -Spare stoe bands -Pullup cord -5.00 bill (if someone gives you a ride back) all in the placard pocket on my rigs. Not a bad idea to carry a cell, whether it's a cheap Cricket or your regular phone. This website offers some good info as well.
  9. If you want a routine, take up figure skating or gymnastics. This. Tandem photography isn't about the camera flyer's bad-ass skills. It's about the student. It's a glorified mall-job taking photos of kids with the Easter Bunny. Getting the best shot for lighting, angle, composition, and overall grade are bonus and great skills to work towards. But...learn the basics while shooting 'straight' and the rest will fall into place over time.
  10. On the right (his left wing) it looks like a demon / ghost head coming out of the fabric.
  11. The FOV, resolution are both menu/software selections. Nothing in the hardware of the cam needs to be changed out.
  12. I don't put new flyers in large flocks. I do put new flyers as floaters so they're near the base (typically right side of base) on a 4-5 way. Having an experienced person in the back provides 'herding' ability and an experienced eye observing for the debrief of the group. As relates to the Australian fatality, this person would not have been in the formation, let alone as one of the last people out of the aircraft.
  13. Camera flyers may have some input on that??? Discussion in the camera/photography forum As a camera flyer and wingsuiter, I'm a fan of RSL's.
  14. have you ever done an exit with the wings unzipped? Highly recommended, especially for coaches. It's not the big deal some make it out to be. Some thoughts to ponder; Unzipped wings leave wingparts to catch on tandems, other parts of aircraft. Hurrying to a door might amplify the concern. Unzipped wings may impede access to handles, too. Zipped wings mean restriction of movement. This might be an issue in a small aircraft such as a 182/206. Zipped wings at boarding are never a good idea. How many have had actual aircraft emergencies where an exit in a wingsuit was required? I have one from a 182, two from an Otter. How does your DZ load wingsuits? Some load all tandems on one side, wings/AFF/fun jumpers on the other, while some simply put wings after tandems. I've got my own experiences and opinions on the subject (discussed in a FB thread you participated in?) and interested in hearing thoughts.
  15. having jumped them both, they're not that different. Hadn't considered the cutaway issue, thanks for bringing that up. The Mantle flies better with a wingsuit, but for tandems/other things, they're not a whole lot different. It's very challenging to load larger cameras on the Mantle (RED, EX1, NX5, etc). FTP, just about anything goes.
  16. ] Ghost 3 is quite capable of 3 mins or more, even on a fat-ass.
  17. I agree; customs sometimes stray. However. TSA does wear a badge, even tho they're not sworn, certified law enforcement. For them to wear a black mourning band on their badges is little different than some guy dressing up in military dress and pretending to be a veteran. It's about respect, I suppose.
  18. I'm a little puzzled; a TSA screener was wearing a black band on his badge. I asked him "Why the black band?" The answer; "Ugh, I'm not sure, but I think that one of our TSA people died of old age or something." A-Are TSA now LEO? B-Isn't the black mourning band symbolic of "fallen in the line of duty?"
  19. I've got one, it's great for some things, but if you're a shredder, the latency will make you crazy. Some of the voicings are very nice. If you're serious, check out the 55. Or dig into an EWI for even more fun.
  20. What's up with the banding at the bottom?
  21. 2012 was clearly an epic year for you. Congrats, and thanks for sharing!
  22. Elsinore doesn't have a restaurant, but it does have a catering service with daily delivery, and has the hot-food cart with a limited menu and quite a few cold-offerings. And...there is always the dairy. Difference in the landing area Different strokes for different folks. Chill; my post wasn't a challenge, just additional information.
  23. The cost of a rig rental/hire will seem insignificant compared to the cost of medical attention. Gear has changed up a lot in 9 years. Get to know your skills and the newer gear; you'll be wiser in making decisions.
