it's now under "My Stuff" on the upper right next to LOGOUT. However, my mail link is giving me a 404 error.

Some might remember late last year when I commented that "HD is dead, it just doesn't know it yet..." http://news.doddleme.com/equipment/canon-launches-4k-c500-and-lower-budget-c100/ These are the next in the five-camera lineup of sub 20K$ 4K cameras. Very exciting stuff.

In our reference manual, you'll note that a wingsuiter needs 100 WS jumps before taking a rodeo on our DZ. I agree; different DZ's have different situations. Elsinore has huge outs, rodeos are never not over the DZ. Other DZ's have no outs, trees, rocks, ravines...Big difference between a rodeo in Mesquite or Pepperell than at somewhere like CSC or Skydive Elsinore.

Assuming it's the outside of the lens, might be some oil from the packaging, might be something similar. Can it be wiped off with a microfiber cloth?

I don't have LR4 on my Mac, I'd be interested to know that files can be edited. I'd also be surprised. Premiere can manage almost anything on the Apple side.

Apparently I screwed up the link: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BxhZWxju4_IlYVhTc2lFdzNPM0k Sorry 'bout that.

If a rodeo were to be over an area off the DZ here (and it was confirmed) they'd be at least talked to, and at most, restricted from doing rodeos. Rodeos are limited to the inner lane of flight (at this DZ, and yes, I recognize other DZ's don't use "freeway lanes") In the Elsinore incident, the rider was over the northwest area of the DZ at dismount.

Page 10 Apparently some feel that is not enough. Having seen several sub-50 jump (even a couple A license grads) on rodeos, it seems 75 is a fair bar. Less than we expect a Coach to manage, more than a B license grad. Perhaps we need to consider raising the number; it's not been an issue in the past.

"handle?" no. Playback, yes.you'll still be converting for the edit. Premiere doesn't need to convert.

upgrade to mountain lion. Or get Adobe Premiere instead.

The FLB videos, the Elsinore videos, the coaching reference guide are all good references that hopefully every coach is open to using. The reference guide will probably not be entirely transparent to people that don't understand/aren't aware of Skydive University methods (prior to USPA buying those materials, there is a whole lot more that most folks never see). I'm glad a few folks are finding use for them. Feel free to Xlate them into whatever language, I only ask that the credits seen at the front, remain as part of the package. A lot of people spent a lot of time working out standard/relevant methods of teaching this material.

Problem with import of AVCHD files into FCP with OS mountain lion
DSE replied to Mikki_ZH's topic in Photography and Video
I may be wrong, but I believe you'll need to re-download the AVCHD import from Sony.com No problems importing to Mtn Lion here....but I also don't convert them, either. -
quick release mounting plate on curved helmet?
DSE replied to 5.samadhi's topic in Photography and Video
you do have a chin cup, right? FWIW, mounting a camera on a curved helmet often implies "no chin cup." Without a chin cup, you won't have stable video (stills won't matter much) The rest of it...should work fine, assuming you're able to aim it well during setup. Dave's suggestions/comments are right on as well. -
He probably could. USPA heard this "get rich" BS from one or two opposition people, just as one or two have posted references here. USPA did ask if they could investigate my finances. Permission was given, and indeed, my finances were examined by members of the subcommittee. They really did their due diligence.

Sunday's report: USPA BOD meeting
DSE replied to MikeTJumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Aren't you the guy that used to tell new guys to just go out and experiment, because that was the best way to learn? And now you seem to be saying that learning needs to be a regimented set of pre-defined steps which must be followed. What changed? Nope. Experiment with formations, positions, etc...sure. Experiment with an FFC? Nope. Always been a proponent of formal training in wingsuiting. As far as "what changed?" In my world, nothing has changed. In wingsuiting, what has changed is a lot of poor decision-making has demonstrated that "education" isn't working any better in wingsuiting than it has in swooping/downsizing. -
Using 2 go-pros for video/stills and charging tandems $120
DSE replied to Mr_Polite's topic in Photography and Video
i'm impressed with the GP2 as well. The Cineform codec makes a huge diff. I'm still not a fan of the oversat, but it's a leap and bound over GP1, IMO -

Curious, are you using a GP 1 or GP2? -
Sunday's report: USPA BOD meeting
DSE replied to MikeTJumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You're welcome for the work, and there is more free material being formatted to go up in the next couple days on DZ.com (it's elsewhere already). Nowhere, anywhere, does anything say "one has to pay to learn to wingsuit." How many people achieve Coach ratings (lots of hands go up in the room) How many people charge/are regularly paid for coached jumps? (not so many hands go up in the room). But coaches are all taught to a standard, and must demonstrate their ability to meet a standard. Most of them pay pretty good money to become Coaches, too, and they then pay it forward. Structure is needed if wingsuiting is going to be allowed to thrive/survive amongst DZO's and FAA. Structure requires standards. In USPA-land, standards=Rating Program. A Rating program will not only standardize instruction, it also provides a fall-back and pedagogy when things go bad. It protects DZO's, S&TA's, and wingsuiters in general. If we can point to a USPA standard in an incident, we don't have the FAA saying "all wingsuiters are screwed up cowboys, this guy just didn't follow protocol" and it becomes a one-off where the wingsuit pilot messed up instead of affecting everyone else. -
I'm a fan of anything with Exmor. Large sensor, smooth video. The 60p mode is sweet. It is OIS, but due to the larger sensor, *most* of the time it's not an issue. The deal you mentioned...great deal for you.

XTi firing when turned on - tongue switch
DSE replied to Psychonaut's topic in Photography and Video
if you send your old one to Conceptus, they've been pretty good about replacing them. -
It's been possible to import AVCHD into Mac for a while now; it just has to be transcoded. Mountain Lion will read the native files fine, but converts for editing. The primary issue is that you can't put the stick in anything prior to Leopard and read/edit from the stick, everything needed conversion. Mountain Lion fixes some of that hassle, so if you haven't yet upgraded to Mt Lion and your hardware supports it...I'd recommend the upgrade. All that said, thanks for sharing a concise flow on importing AVCHD to Mac!

Sunday's report: USPA BOD meeting
DSE replied to MikeTJumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, let's see. 1) You want USPA to require new wingsuit flyers to receive instruction from certified wingsuit instructors. 2) And you run a wingsuit school. Sounds like a biased interest to me. What am I missing? You're missing a great deal. Assumptions can be bad things. Do you see many wealthy AFFI's running around? Figure for every 50 AFF students, there is one wingsuit student. Oh BTW, I draw no financial benefit from teaching FFC's at Skydive Elsinore. On the flip side, our school has put out a few dozen videos, several training articles, pincheck guide, guide for DZO's, and developed a program much like AFF for those that want to continue wingsuit training beyond the FFC (and no, the multi-jump program is not part of anything USPA has seen, and is not/will not be part of any proposal). We also developed Wingsuit Water Training after 50 entries into various kinds of water situations both real and contrived. Who paid for all that? No one other than Fly Like Brick has stepped up with training materials. It takes a great deal of time to plan, shoot, edit, and deliver this stuff. For no benefit otehr than appreciation from our fellow skydivers. You're welcome (It would actually be nice for my staff and I to hear even one "thank you" for the work we've shared, vs all the "fuck you's" from haters like Vectorboy.) My guys and I produce solid content. For free. Using very modern methods of training. I'm proud of them not for only their talent, but their spirit. We share what we have, freely. The goal is to create safer, better-skilled wingsuit pilots so that we can grow the discipline and do great things. Part of that goal is to challenge instructors to meet an industry standard so that the wingsuiters they create, are cultured from the same standard.
