  1. Reference guide posted last week. Second to last page has requirements of a few foreign countries, requirements we're bound to by USPA agreements and dropzone policy. It's not at all uncommon to contact a safety officer or similar at a foreign dropzone to verify a student's creds or rules of his country. The PF website has a much more detailed list. Never were fatalities quoted as a "reason" or cause to justify the rating proposal. Not in 2009 proposal nor in the 2010 nor 2012 presentation. You'll see in the presentation, fatalities, specific tailstrikes, specific incidents aren't addressed. The idea is that the trend for problems with FAA, NTSB, off-landings, tailstrikes, and yes...fatalities/injuries is on the rise. DZ's have banned WS, and we're not done with that conversation yet. The proposal is geared to two achievements; ~Standardization in training (something everyone agreed on in 2008-2009 before political sides came into play) ~Getting ahead of the curve on the above topics. Most everyone who has served on the board wishes this had occurred with canopies 15 years ago. I still recall being in my wheelchair and walker in front of the USPA BOD, and Taya Wiess helping to hold me up as we both explained why USPA needs this sort of a program. The proposal has changed very little in content since 2008/2009. The formatting and number of incidents have dramatically changed. It also should be pointed out that should the USPA adopt the proposal, it has zero impact on any wingsuit pilot who isn't desirous of teaching new wingsuiters. If you don't teach and don't want to teach, it's all status quo. Like many others, I can't comprehend the fear of an instructor performing and teaching to a standard, and being responsible for the words and actions used in training others.
  2. According to my buddy Adolf, it's the guys wearing those ridiculous prom dresses that have replaced swoopers in the sack. The payoff, still workin' on that.
  3. Robin, you're a pretty intelligent, articulate guy. Would you please explain to the gallery how I "most benefit" from the imposition of a new bureaucracy? Inquiring minds wanna know.
  4. Of course you're right, in that the camera flyer isn't being paid any more or less than the other guy who has good quality, perhaps even professional gear. The days of pride in work and wanting to deliver the best product because they are a "photographer" are waning, for better or for worse. Paper delivery is becoming more and more rare, while digital delivery is far more common (facebook, etc). The GoPro and similar cameras produce very nice stills for the web, and the video is certainly quite good enough for broadcast, especially with some of the aftermarket lenses. We just shot a fun commercial that is a mix of RED, GoPro2, and a little 5D footage. Hard to tell what is what due to the quality and post processing. Some still like to deliver a better image, and that's really where the line is drawn; quality of image and composition, and that's something that small format cameras will struggle with delivering for a while. I'm still not a fan of hand-cam, and the render times of AVC vs AVCHD are still annoying, but the fact of the matter is, the game is changing. If a videographer wants to invest in an aftermarket lens for the GoPro, or can fly something less wide/spherical like the Contour, Sony, etc, it's a great option for weight reduction.
  5. Probably the most intelligent post I've read in a long time. That said...Hitler has become a close personal friend And he's doing incredible things in a Ghost 3 wingsuit, too.
  6. I also think that your judgement of character is... well... shitty. I remember you being all excited and pleased with how karnage krew guy handheld his business, defending him every chance you got, when people were complaining on this forum about not getting their gear, etc. It turned out he was just a drunk gambler scamming skydivers out of money, so perhaps you're not the greatest reference when it comes to judging characters. I know Klaus is good guy because he has helped me in the past with Paralog problems. His track record however is not an excuse to not even send email with archive link while having time to write me a nice email with links to his FAQ and upgrade pages. Uhh...for the record, I didn't support Gary/KarnageKrew. Never met the guy, never did business with him, had my own "questionable" conversations with him. You're thinking of someone else? Maybe you're right. Perhaps I do have "shitty judgement of character." I have trusted others who have done far worse than Karnage Krew. ...I feel it is out of line to jump on a developer because they're not supporting something long-discontinued. My company develops software for a major company; it's common to have support cut-off dates. If you used words like "Stupid" "bloatware" in your emails to Klaus, then I'd consider that "unpleasant." I'd consider someone coming online and complaining about a product as being "unpleasant" when it is your fault you didn't scroll down the page to find the link you needed. Perhaps Klaus was unpleasant back to you, who knows (it would be out of character for him to be so). You have multiple people telling you he's very good about customer service. Maybe he had a bad day, week, whatever. So, he sent you a link to the page you needed. I'm confused about why you're unhappy. I expect Klaus has received emails from people on this thread; I'm sure a resolution is coming you way if the link to an old version of the software isn't working for you.
  7. Pilot chute: (somewhat main-dependent) a 28"-31" should be right in most situations. I use a 30" on all of my mains (135-170) Length of bridle: Not longer than 9' from pin. 7-9' is common. Anything longer than 9', the bridle has a lot of drag on its own (unless you're one of those guys that uses Spectra as a bridle) What kind of rig is your old rig/wingsuit rig?
  8. I suggest you try getting Adobe to give you an installer for version CS2 (I have, BTW). They won't. It becomes too cost-prohibitive for any company large or small, to support a product that is discontinued. Not knowing Klaus reason for not responding in 5 days could be a boogie, travel, whatever. But he's good about responding, I hear this from people anytime Paralog comes up. I had some challenges when I started using my Altitrack with Paralog; Klaus was right there. If you're even remotely as unpleasant in email as you appear to be in this thread, I'd probably ignore your mail too, especially when it comes to a very inexpensive product that has been discontinued for quite a while. Posting nasty-grams to Dropzone.com probably won't win you any points for support either. Klaus is a stand-up guy, but I'd wager that also means he won't allow people to bully him. The link is (and always was) there. Sounds like problem solved?
  9. Even though Klaus provides the access to the software, he's also very good about returning emails. However, he's also a skydiver with a day job. Paralog is a small company. They don't have a team of tech support guys in India. Sometimes it takes {gasp} a day for an email response. The link you want is at the bottom of the page, scroll down. You will probably get better service if you don't tell the developer his software has "stupid" features.
  10. http://youtu.be/Mz9BqxJpfcQ John Hamilton mixes his BMX chops with skydiving. He lost a GoPro or five along the way...
  11. The subcommittee received the same excel file graphic that was posted here on DZ.com, with one variation; They received the locations of the tailstrikes with DZO names. Rich asked for a detailed list because some peopl refused to accept the numbers and made accusations of them being false. The Subcommittee verified them and discovered other tailstrikes in addition to the ones contained in the report. DZO's don't like to report incidents. See the latest Parachutist for details on that subject. Almost everyone involved in the process cooperated fully with the BOD. My personal financial information was even looked at by the BOD due to accusations of "this is all about money." Regardless of anything else, Rich took every accusation, denial, question posed here and on Facebook to heart. He took the time to examine everything, doing what I feel is an exceptionally thorough job at digging into facts vs the emotional rants. At times it felt similar to being dragged into a police station and having to answer difficult questions. Had everyone on the SubCommittee been as forthcoming and participated equally, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
  12. Here you go: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zTiEs8rT1o_xqsrMqBvaYu_p85WaAARjBOfDMhdMRRk/edit It has been wrongfully reported that I protested the withdrawal of the wingsuit proposal. Withdrawal was at my desire, and my effort. Many thanks to Rich Winstock, Merriah Eakins, Sherry Butcher, Tony Thacker, and Randy Allison for doing their best to make this a transparent process.
  13. Stills in AE would be really, really silly, IMO. Photoshop has almost everything that AE offers, and a whole lot that AE doesn't. Even consumer Photoshop is likely more appropriate. Then as mentioned, there are many free photo editors. GIMP is great. For very high end software normally costing 6 times as much, 300.00 for an Adobe suite is nothing. She can rent AE or Pshop on Adobe's cloud site...
  14. More black? "How much more black could it be? None. There's none more black."
  15. Or [url "http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1106024#1106024"]this one. Honestly, we see this all the time. "I'm above average, better than average, my instructors tell me I'm fine, I'm super sport-capable, I'm never distracted, I'm always heads-up...." Truth is, we're pretty much all "average" and the average guy that's been around for a while...is telling the OP that he's loaded too heavily for experience. It might not catch up now, but the mental trajectory into the next "I'm more capable" will be slightly flatter. It becomes easier and easier to make poor decisions until one day....it does catch up. It always does, based on the averages.
  16. The question still is, are they motion images or still images? AE is very cheap for students. Adobe has terrific purchase programs for students. The trial will allow you to work for 30 days without purchase, and IIRC, the student price for AE is around 300.00

thank you for posting this. incredible.
  18. The Condom shot at 2:00 is pretty cool, although one of the organizers was sorta forgotten. Can't even put a condom on myself as fast as Lana put it on the banana....Damn!
  19. Take Norman Kent's camera course, or buy his training DVD (or both).
  20. PF site isn't even logging a cookie deposit in the sandbox, so it's got to be something else in your system. perhaps a link you clicked to get TO the PF site? a redirector? i've had that happen to me before.
  21. Just went there in a sandbox environment to see if anything had changed in the past 24 hours...nothing seen, nothing reported, nothing indicated. I'm there every couple of days; I don't run antivirus. But then again, I also avoid porn, warez, and music lyric sites, and like long walks on the beach while poking dead things with a sharp stick.

  23. very little experience with the Nikon, but if starting out fresh....one couldn't do wrong with either cam. I'm a big fan of Canon, I appreciate their dedication to customer service and updates. I prefer the ergonomics of Canon, and there are a lot more third-party products available for Canon. But that doesn't make the picture any better. Unless you have a collections of glass...both bodies are well-suited and both will produce great photos.
  24. Deltagear, Square 1, and Chutingstar offer low-snag potential systems. Vidiots have been putting GoPro's in the empty space of their Flattop Pro and VaporPro for a couple of years now, totally eliminating snag points. However...seeing someone with 2 jumps already speaking of cameras is a concern, whether you agree or not.
