If the FAA gets their hands into our landing areas (as this proposal does) it is another piece of the camel under the tent. This may allow them to make other decisions for us without due process, simply as part of the their scope over landing areas. Randy always has a grip on these issues; please help yourself and the sport via the USPA call-to-action.

Other than talking to the S&TA at the DZ about the coach' choice of suit...not much can be done. Hope that the S&TA trusts your judgement. Talking to S&TA's, DZO's about this topic often draws blank stares, because they usually know very little about wingsuits. They'll turn to the local WS expert who may or may not understand the issues of exit procedures, off landings, whatever. It's also somewhat common to see guys with single/low double digit WS jumps show up with Apache's, Xbirds, Venoms, Vampire 4's, S-birds, etc. You can stop them at one DZ, yet they can easily find another DZ that either won't notice or won't care. Therefore, we'll try to teach/guide them when we can.

This would suggest then, that something is moving the camera in the box, or the box is moving the zoom, as previously suggested.
-
Are you using a HypeEye? Is it possible you've programmed the zoom? I don't have a CX115, so not sure if the zoom programming function works with this camera.

There isn't much you can do past warning him, and realizing that he was dishonest about the suit, is someone to not be trusted. We find guys doing their FFCs on Sbirds; while it is irresponsible on the part of the coach to encourage it, the norm seems to be heading this route. "Get a coupla jumps on a small suit, and you'll grow into the bigger suit." It's a series of bad decisions, bad examples, and he'll likely end up being a bad bodypilot because he didn't learn on a smaller suit. Try to teach him to be the best he can be on what he has and know you did your best to grow his knowledge. Perhaps you can eventually help him see he's made a poor choice. Or, maybe he'll become a super bad-ass in the bigger suit and prove everyone else wrong.

I've left mine as-is after playing with the settings. It's a super small imager, so it becomes noisy (like everyone else) in low light, and most of the work I'm doing with the camera is achieved in post anyway.

Me too, brother. It's ok, because, as he says, it's his first skydive ever. What could possibly go wrong? Countdown til the clip becomes "unavailable". 3, 2, 1... IIRC, the USPA did take punitive action regarding this jump. I recall it being discussed in a BOD meeting, everyone asked to leave for closed session, and was later told it was discussed. I don't know the outcome, however.

Even though HD is nearly dead of course you can shoot in HD, 2k, 4K, UHD, and even SHV. it's just video. Editing it is an issue of computer system hardware. Any old laptop can edit HD regardless of the format in which it was acquired. Have fun!

I've seen that type too, Rob. It was pretty sweet. For wingsuit training, I needed something to support the chest but that would allow the legs to drop below the edge, so I've got a "backwards" creeper with the normal chest area cut a bit more slim. The funny part is that I built this exclusively for the WS school, but it gets more use from AFF than anything. The one I've built was cheap, easy to pack away, and lets the arms and legs drop below the deck with a fair degree of comfort. Were I to build another, I'd make the deck more slender, and the chest a bit more wide/padded. Then again, that probably wouldn't suffice for AFF.

That's beyond my pay-grade.

Certainly possible PAL can't go up...I haven't had my hands on a stock PAL camera for a long time. 24p as a standard in the cams changed up my need to access PAL. When you rebooted the cam, did you get an error message of any kind? Also, what does the HDMI output do vs the LCD screen?

Yes

Me too. I'm guessing it's coming and going from the bottom of the flaps instead of coming out the top and going to the bottom. For a long time that's how we always closed containers. I don't remember when the manufacturers changed the bridle routing. It certainly works either way. Some wingsuiters have been closing their rigs with the "new" UPT method for a long time. Chuck Blue turned me on to this several years ago, and the mechanics of it have no downside.

Seeking advice: Goggle/Sunglass Cam options
DSE replied to MichelleJumps's topic in Photography and Video
you're not going to be able to shoot any kind of a camera through a face shield, so plan on going open face. Pivothead (among others) makes a goggle/sunglass cam that we've experimented with. It does "ok" but not really well. I've yet to see any goggle cam worth a damn, but equally sure it's not too far off. -
When I moved to the 64bit exclusive world, I had to change up hardware. L&B shipped it out at no charge, but I had also only recently purchased a new interface unit, too. Not sure if they do that for all older units or not.
-
you'll need a newer piece of hardware. Unfortunately, the older firmware cannot be flashed.

It's becoming interesting...(Sony's new action cam)
DSE replied to martin245's topic in Photography and Video
Besides what's on the blog and announced in this PR, I cannot comment. looks a lot like a Contour with an Exmor though. :-) -

Cost me around 20.00 to build. It would be nice if it were more sturdy, but it works great, all day every day.

haven't thrown one on a resolution chart, but the OEM is pretty decent, so I'd bet it's in the 500 line range. I'll try to remember to post some pix when I return to the DZ.

In the case of the cams that have the switch, the firmware does not need to be flashed. In the higher end camera models, it's merely a clock switch that changes when the camera is rebooted.

I believe one day or so per year is good (and I've failed to follow through for two years). This is a good review as well: http://www.chutingstar.com/companyinfo_en/canopy-control-core-essentials-dvd.html Indicators...ask others to observe your landings. I once developed a tendency to put my hands up the moment I touched down, and one of the local CRWdogs noticed/commented. There were no consequences, but there could have been.

Skydiving and motorcycle riding
DSE replied to FreefallSnoopy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Me too. I have twice gotten pulled over for speeding with the trailer on (in California, motorcycles/trailers can't go faster than 55) and both times, the officer has been more interested in talking about skydiving/wingsuiting than writing the citation.
