So...the new rig arrived at the office about the same time I arrived, so it was like Christmas a few days early. Thanks to RI for putting the hustle on so I could have this rig in time for the worldrecord wingsuit event in Elsinore this weekend. It has an Optimum 143, Cypres 2, and (currently) Sabre2 150 in it, waiting for my Storm 150 to arrive. Fits like....well....like it was made for me. It's a bit tight getting the Sabre 150 in there, it really should be the Storm 150 or the Sabre 135. Few things worthy of note, check out how the tray completely opens vs the mod that many container manufacturers use. The "Eye" is embroidered, not sewn on, with a sweet lil' wingsuit in the middle. Really pleased w/it. Now if the clouds would rise a little, a hop n' pop is in order. Kit, all is forgiven for sending me those god-awful Telesis pix with the forged Voodoo eye on it.

Now I'm scared. I saw both those shows. Still a huge KISS fan. Saw em' in Melbourne with the Melbourne Symphony. The last tour with Ted Nugent rocked. AlterBridge blew me away recently. PinkFloyd, The Wall. Garth Brooks Central Park (w/Billy Joel) Peter Gabriel 3 Dog Night unplugged in Park City, Utah bar. KISS has so-so music, but no one has ever beaten their live show, IMO.

That's nice: making fun of how someone moves his arms, when the reason is that his arm movements are restricted because of his old wounds from years of torture at the hands of the North Vietnamese. Funny thing...His war wounds don't extend to his face, legs, or body language. Nor do his war wounds seem to affect his propensity for violence against doors, walls, and tables with his fists. All respect due to McCain for having been a war hero 40 years ago. This is a new day, the Technology Era. We need brains, not brawn to bring America back. McCain Violent McCain's famous temper McCain Snaps McCain Needs Anger Management McCain Pounds Table, calls people "Shitheads, Assholes, Cunt (his wife) and Fucking Jerks" His home supporters think temper is an issue Temper cancels Larry King Raises Fists to fight, and pounds craps table at casino Physically attacks a Sandinista representative Anger is an innuendo for instability or inadequacy

whats a good freefall time for a beginner?
DSE replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I've certainly seen it, I was one of those myself, even though I waited til nearly 400 jumps for my first wingsuit jump, and then waited another 200 jumps due to a horrible first-jump experience. You'd have to ask Scott Campos how I did on my 'second' first-jump. I've also seen a person with 8 times the "enough jumps" get into a hairy situation and nearly blow it. It's more than the nylon itself, IMO. Traffic pattern, awareness of other canopies, experience in bad situations. My first WX jump...I got by without injury BECAUSE I had nearly 500 jumps behind me. Luck and experience combined kept me from anything more bruised than my ego. I f''d up recently and taught someone with only 170 jumps. He is a *very* current and heads-up guy, which colored my thinking. I learned my lesson after he had a cutaway on a borrowed rig and lost the freebag in the desert. Would another 30 jumps have made all the difference? He panicked in both deployment and linetwists. Would he have been more calm with more jumps? Maybe, maybe not. It did teach me to be a better instructor, and it did teach me to watch for some things I'd not been trained/taught to watch for. Personally, I was very embarassed at my error and glad it didn't go worse. 200 jumps is the USPA-recommended minimum, and based on the stupidity of my earlier ignorance of the BSR, I'm sticking to the rules from now on. I usually learn in one. YMMV. -
I'm merely asking simple questions that for some reason, you've declined to answer. Do I seem riled up?

You forgot his grandmother's illegal immigrant status, his friendship with Osama bin Laden's suppliers, and *most* important, his ability to practice Jedi-like mind tricks over television, radio, and internet.

Some tracking dives before wearing the nylon might fix that....? Sorry, I keep forgetting it's not all about jump numbers. -
The stills will virtually always be soft in high-speed shooting situations and simultaneous recording. They are full resolution images, but as you've discovered, the myth of "more resolution is better" isn't quite true. You have more pixels to be messed up due to IS, you have an already hard-working imager buffering still image content to the processor, and a reasonably challenged lens quality for still imagery. Going to Manual modes with the camera (as manual as the HC5 allows) will help, but still not enough to give you the quality of an XT or similar.

If I understand what you're saying here correctly, a coach at Raeford set up a 2-way between two non-licensed skydivers ? Yea I thought it was kind of strange as well. So; -You're claiming a coach put you and another non-licensed skydiver in the air as a two-way. Who is the person at Raeford that set up the two way? Perhaps he/she had a specific reason for doing so? -At 17 jumps you're saying you know that you're not permitted to jump with another non-licensed skydiver, but went ahead with the jump? -If you think corking/popping up 20 feet in a belly dive was something exciting, wait'll you do the same in a freefly dive. You'll likely be asked to not jump with that group until you can demonstrate confident fall rate skills.

Copyrighted Music – Staying Ethical, Honest and Legal
DSE replied to AFFI's topic in Photography and Video
Part of the thread is two years old, but it's also a regularly recurring thread/theme. Yes, ACID 7, Garageband, SoundTrack, SONAR are all great tools for avoiding copyright issues. I needed a filler piece for a spec project yesterday, and only had Garageband available. Used it, the director was really pleased with the feel of the piece and asked me to flesh it out more for actual use. He doesn't know how I created it, and wouldn't care anyway. Always great to hear about folks using loops! -

Happy Birthday to the girl with the most awesomest bunting I've ever seen. Wanna go ride a bike?

Come out to Utah sometime...you can play on one of Gregg's old B3's! He's an amazing keyboardist, no doubt. Glad he didn't stick with Journey for *too* long. If you get the chance, listen to his solo "Roots." It's a mostly great listen.

Yes, Kit *really* sent those, and no pix of the real deal. After seeing Gordo's post above, now I know who is responsible for the prank. Imagine my excitement when I see an email with an attachment. I was in a meeting, so couldn't open it til I got to my hotel. Talk about a letdown, and then the humor set in. I'm glad I had these to look at vs seeing pix of a rig that I know wlll arrive at my house around the same time as I will. Can't wait to see it/jump it.

So, I ordered a VoodooII from Rigging Innovations not so long ago, and Kit informed me that it would be shipping last Thursday. Imagine my excitement?! Except I was going to be on travel when it arrived, so I asked her to send me pix of my new container. Her email in entirety: Hello Douglas! We took some photos of your new Voodoo..... ENJOY :) I was a bit bummed out cuz I can't see my new rig until I return, but, the pix did give me a big of a bigger smile. Thanks RI, for terrific customer service, communication, and humor.

You can occasionally find Vegas Pro 9 for quite cheap at videoguys.com or B&H.com You don't NEED Pro, BTW, but if you want the uber-fast workflow...Pro is much better. Parachutist/Chris W can probably give you a more unbiased opinion than I.

Dave,I would agree on the softness of the openings but I still found that the Storm 97 and 107 pressurizes faster than the Katana 107. The Katana tends to snivel longer and then quickly inflates, where as the Storm sits you upright softly and is already inflated by the time you look up at it. You just said a few posts above that it opens like a Silhouette. Which is it? Dave's comment was And in that, I agree with how the Storm opens... I don't have enough jumps on the Katana to feel like I can make any kind of a definitive comment.

This is exactly how Les Stroud does his show; sets a camera on a tripod, Gorilla-pod, or beanie-mount, and then walks away from the cam. When he returns from a 5-7 day shoot, he'll have upwards of 150 hours of tape/card-media to be captured and edited. Maybe it has nothing to do with skydiving, but what you're saying isn't accurate, either.
-
I only have a couple jumps on a Katana, but I'd say your description is spot-on. You wait for a "whop" at the end, and it never happens. Silhouette is the same for me (I've got easily 1K jumps on various Silhouettes).
-
Nice idea...except you can't open the windows. I guess they think guests will throw stuff in the river below.

I am chillin'. It's cold here in Edmonton, and you guys aren't jumping! And I don't have a fridge in this damn hotel.

The EIS of the "newer" cams is the same/similar to the EIS of the old cams. None of the new cams (other than the TG1) offer EIS. OIS is now less costly to produce, and outside of high vibration areas, it's superior by a fair shake. Unfortunately, skydiving doesn't fall into that area.

Well sheeeyiiiittttt! A self-proclaimed Christian Fundamentalist who has a failed business and works for an alarm company says something exists and knows what it contains, by Gawd it must be true! Dayum. He hasn't seen it, but he knows from butt-bump Kansas what is in the video?? How? Gawd musta telebeamed it to his maverick mind. 'Longs he's a gots Gawd and guns on his side, he musta enjoyed the meal he was fed about the video, cuz he shore h'ain't seen it. I wonder if they have video of McCain beating kindergarten children that they won't release? (In his own werds, "apologies to Jeff Foxworthy.")

it's not that I'm seeing what your seeing, as I mentioned...my company is part of Les' support team. http://www.thefullhd.com, you'll see Les speaking at one of my company engagements. Watch for something cool with Les Stroud and Norman Kent in the future as well...
-
If by "other guy" you mean Les Stroud/Survivorman, when he is doing the wilderness shots, he is indeed, alone for 3-5 days at a crack. Les is the real deal, regardless of any rumor, half-truth, whatever you may have heard abou him. He started his adulthood as a survival instructor, cameraman on the side, and with his cousin, developed what you now see as "Survivorman." My company is part of the "Survivorman" support team.
