"What do YOU want out of a wingsuiting event?"
DSE replied to PhoenixRising's topic in Wing Suit Flying
How many wingsuit jumps have you done with/without bent legs? Seems you *already* got your wish. More verticals, vertical and flat formation mixes. More focus on docking so we can get towards meaningful competition. Speed flocks. Speed/distance challenges are a huge smile. Expanding backflying skills, backfly flocks, mixed back of all the disciplines. However; events that focus on one or two of these skills are more productive, IMO. We've got some distance challenge stuff in the works at Elsinore, as well as mixed format flying throughout the winter. Like Andreea said, this is a great year upcoming from Flock University! -
Attached is the same image, but in jpg. Many folks don't have a .tif reader. Don't know the answer, haven't tried installing an older FCS on a newer system.

Of course it's sad, but it's also the reality of the world. If you specialize in "making a product" you may not necessarily possess the skills to sell that product. Look at how many awesome skydiving photographers are out there that can't sell their own products... There isn't a couple of weeks go by that I'm not asked something about selling/licensing/monetizing works of some kind or another. So... you "hire" someone, an agency, a label, whatever to promote your work so you generate revenues so you can continue making your product. I've got over 400 copywritten works....I own about 30 of em' outright. Apple, who made a big deal early on about how iTunes was going to give control back to artists has totally reneged on that position, and they're one of the biggest cannibals of em' all. I get about 1.10 per CD sold in mechanical form. On iTunes, I get .07 for that same sale. For the 1.10, the label works hard to promote and sell the CD, help with touring, merchandising, artistic direction. Apple/Amazon hosts it on a server and puts up a tiny graphic and a small sample. -

this was a fun highlight at Utah. I've still got the first place trophy sitting in my trophy case. Although it belongs to Callantine -
Saw a lens yesterday that was horribly swirled/scratched through the (crappy) coating. Asked the photographer what he was using to clean his lens, and he proudly pulled out Bausch and Lomb wet tissues. You know, the kind that are in the little foil pouches that you can get at the optometrist? Ouch. These are harsh Repeated use will scratch/polish off the coatings on your lens adapters. Get a microfiber cloth. They're cheap, sometimes even free. PD and VASST have both given them away as promo items. FWIW, I leave a could of em' rolled up in my helmet liner. I seem to lose one every 2-3 months.

This is a really great tip, and a super way to get exposure for the band and free music for yourself. One caveat; be sure the band owns all rights to their music. We had a band give us rights, they assured us (in writing/reps/warranties) that they owned rights. We did a webisode for Panasonic and within a few days had a cease and desist from the band's producer, who also had (in writing) rights to the song. -

nope...it's *free*. That means without encumbrances or license, no hidden strings...it's yours. Enjoy, cheapskate! -

Adrenalize; made for skydiving -
His Altitrack said 1010 feet. Fortunately, he didn't have a long opening with line twists or somthing worse ... Purple Mike I suspect you need glasses. Justin *never* opens low. Being a good example to students and other wingsuiters is *very* important to him. Perhaps you were confusing his freefall time with deployment altitude?

Import is a convert, its just they've taken away the options so you can't screw up. the conversions are quite clean. I haven't run a pixel map yet to see where it's blending (if at all) It is converting 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080, and that's where they'll usually prank with pixels. I gotta dig out a map and shoot it.

USPA has a skills progression sheet; it's never been published but you might get a copy. Email me and I'll send one to you.

A few answers to keep you busy reading. The higher in altitude the landing area is, the less dense the air, and the faster the landing. Ergo, a larger canopy performs like a smaller canopy. I jump a 150 in Utah where landing is at 4200, and a 135 at Elsinore or San Diego where it's lower than 1K

I'll prolly put some real numbers to it, but it's all relative. On my 2.4, it sped up the process by approx 65% (encoding from CX7).

Vegas Movie Studio Pro 8 crashing w Go Pro HD
DSE replied to skydiveoc's topic in Photography and Video
no, you don't need Vegas Pro. Make sure you're using the latest version of 8, but as Chris/Parachutist says....Vegas Pro 9 or Vegas Movie Studio 10 manage AVC and AVCHD MUCH better. -
Tell him he can use my Lisa.
-
if you use a Mac and encode much for YouTube, Google vid, FaceBook, etc, you might find the ElGato AVCHD accelerator to be of use. A magazine I write for sent one to me to evaluate, and it really is faster than the other accelerators for Mac out there. It's very fast to convert .mts files from the CX series camcorders (testing with a CX7 @1440 x 1080 and CX100 at 1920 x 1080).

Anyone have info on Chutingstar Discounts and service??
DSE replied to gixzig's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've done quite a bit of business with them, and they seem to bust ass to keep customer service at the fore. Call em' up to ask about any discounts or good deals. They've always answered the phone when I've called. -
KMills should be on a billboard.... ...you can vote as often as you'd like if you clear your cache.

Both my Freakn' Suit jackets have cords.

That's a nice bit of info, Gary. As mentioned, I'm using the Nikkor/Nikon lenses (they translate nicely to PL), but I see a lot of people in the wedding industry using FC converters, and what I've seen looks better than the link you posted would suggest. One guy in particular, Chris Watson, had some great vid and stills he'd shot with vintage Vivitar FD lenses. He may have content online...from Manitoba, IIRC.
-
They are kinda hard to find, because FD was for 35mm, so a 17mm lens is quite wide, but not so wide on an APSC sensor. The 17mm f4 lens is nice n' cheap. There is a 10mm f2.8 around that I've seen references to online but never seen one in real life.
-
This is a "special" wide for "special" people. We can get one for you, too.
