  1. Too bad Chris Warnock isn't making wingsuits full time. His wingsuit (a one-off) is the best constructed suit I've ever seen. Zippers, fabric, sewing, cuts, finish details... A thing of beauty. He also now says he doesn't understand how WX manufacturers can do it for the cost of materials and labor without a bigger margin of profit. If you ever get to Santa Barbara, have a look at Chris' Mach1-inspired wingsuit. It's sweet.
  2. A lot of the answer would depend on the day, attitude, and fabric on the rack. I've had problem suits (three) come from Tony. I've had one original Phantom that had a zipper break on the second jump. Apparently they had a bad batch. PF repaired the zipper in a week. Tony took 5 months to repair/finish the three student suits that were wrong and sent un-finished even tho they'd been paid in full. I had a Mach 1 with a coupla problems, Tony sorted those out in person at a boogie. Why you put Birdman on the list is kind of odd; they make jeans and underwear and it's a brand, not a product now. Only took em' seven months to finally get me a Blade that fit, and that fell apart within about 50 jumps. They still owe me for shipping and minor costs but I've given up after three years. FYB has some good stuff going, their suits are definitely well made, if you like monowings. All manufacturers (I believe) strive their best to provide the best product possible. I know Robi (PF) makes it a point to be part of virtually every suit that goes out. I don't think you can go wrong with TonySuits or PF, but you'll definitely get better post-sale response from PF than from TS. Yet you indicated customer service isn't part of the discussion....I think that's a big mistake.
  3. Link? Are there any 60fps options? I'd like to see something good from this camera too. The one piece of video I've received was terrible, mounted on a motorcycle.

    To Robbie...

Suit Wars: Attack of the Clones/Clowns?
  5. They're not that well built, I can say that much about em'. I'm not a fan. The quality of image is very good in its class (Rebel, etc). Consider one of the Canon G10/11, or one of Laszlo's mods for weight maybe?
  6. She still owes me a spankin'. Hoping to run into her again one day soon. She owes me a beer for a jump ticket or two I turned over to her (right, Skymama?) And yeah...she's a gorgeous, alluring, attractive woman with a smile that lights up the darkest sky. Then again...she can kick ass with the best of em', so if you haven't been intimidated by her...you've not tested her patience.
  7. Are you the guy that gave that too-oft' used joke to Guthrie? I often ponder at late night why instead of putting pictures of criminals in the post office, why aren't they put on stamps so postman could look for them while they deliver the mail?
  8. You may or may not have done the right thing; hopefully you checked controllability high up so you knew how it would react when flared at landing. Watched one guy with a broken brake line land on one rear and one toggle. He burned it in hard and turned the canopy on its side during landing. He only sprained his ankle. When asked about it, he admitted that he hadn't tested the canopy for riser/toggle control. He merely remembered that he *could* land on a riser/toggle combination (which is fine, but he would likely have had a more successful landing had he done a controllability check prior to landing). I understand your worry. My first 1000 jumps were filled with "what will I do if...." and then when the first cutaway came, it was quite easy to manage. It was high speed. My second mal was a diving spin, low speed mal. It too, was easy. Third one was also a diving spin, and it was all automatic. Not once was I worrying about traffic. I needed to worry after myself.
  9. Your first priority is to get a good canopy above your head. Everything else comes secondary.
  10. contact Sony tech support. I can also ask for copies of the tutorial. I'm the one who did it, and I don't even have a copy of the final. Portions of it are on Vimeo under VASST Training
  11. I was gonna ask the same question. Randy Ottinger has been nothing but UBER-Responsive when asked for help by me.
  12. My CX's don't leave their boxes. Charger reaches, cards are side loaded, my Shumacher box is perfect for this. T'is why I haven't moved to bottom load cameras for skydiving. They're a PITA, IMO.
  13. SEnd it to Pete at Lodi, he's a genius with wingsuits. So is Chris Warnock at Santa Barbara. Chris has built his own wingsuit, repaired several Birdman and Tony suits. Pete designed his own "firebird" wings, and both are meticulous riggers. Don't tell Chris I sent you. I owe him money.
  14. my point regarding damage to property or persons stems from the thread in general, not from your words per se. If you took my post as a personal affront, re-read the thread. It is more about loss, experience, camera flying, and "damn this sucks" with virtually no mention of "you're lucky that nothing worse happened." Glad to hear it was woods/fields/whatever so that it was less of an issue. Again...sorry for your camera loss. I had a Fastex not properly connected once. Lost my helmet, audible. Found the helmet a week later in a field. Grateful that if it did hit a cow, there was no indication of it.
  15. The speaks more about the pilots because my Phantom 2 (which I absolutely love) has nothing on my Stealth 2 when it comes to distance. The pilot was the shortest, second heaviest, oldest guy on the plane. The Stealth owner had just gotten his, however. 3rd, maybe 4th flight on it.
  16. Too bad ya wasn't in Utah, Scott. In the distance challenge, my load consisted of 2 Phantoms, a Stealth, a Tony Xbird, Tony Sbird, and a V3. The Phantom 2 kicked ass on all of em for distance. Love my P2.
  17. These are two very different questions. A-Can Vegas import 1080p60? Absolutely. We do this frequently. Vegas doesn't give a hoot about framerate, editing Phantom footage is cake. Same with SR. B-Can Vegas import Panasonic's flavor of 1080p60? Not at this time. Panasonic chooses to package their 1080p60 in a proprietary header file that references the codec. It won't take long for this to be adapted, however. It only took 3 years before everyone could edit DVCPro HD (another proprietary format from Panasonic). Then again...I wouldn't begin to consider this camcorder for skydiving. OIS on a gimbal.
  18. I'd like to suggest you were lucky in that the camera didn't go through someone's windshield, head, airplane wing, cow, child, skylight, whatever... Great that you took the time to figure it out and build a mount, but apparently something was missed. While there are full-size regular cameras that have broken off and become bombs, there are (now 6) stories of these cameras breaking off. I'm wondering when the odds of hitting something valuable catch up to us. Perhaps what bothers me most is the thread is in the direction of "poor me" vs "wow...this coulda done some damage." To the guy that recommends tying the camera to the helmet with a lanyard...DON'T. Saw a moron at Elsinore do this with Spectra tied through a Gath helmet. Imagine that getting caught up in an entanglement. And congrats to you for waiting until you had the proper time-in-sport and experience/relative work!
  19. Two stories of these small cameras tumbling down from altitude...wonder when they're gonna hit something that matters. Sorry for your loss.
  20. if you're wanting to render to a 1920 x 1080 image, you must render to that. In the FILE | RENDER AS | dialog, select the Blu-ray template instead of the NTSC DVD template. If you're using Production Assistant, you'll do the same thing.
  21. Although the files are camera-specific, the headers/file structure is partially obfuscated to prevent the camera from Being used for copyright infringement.
  22. you can't. Once the media has left the camcorder, it cannot be put back on a stick and played via the camcorder.
  23. I don't know much about it, but do know that when I had Star, I couldn't plug it into my Dishnetwork box, even tho the dishes and LNB are made by the same manufacturer. Frequencies and decode (I assume) would be quite different.
  24. Exactly right. Apple and MPEG is a bullshit combination. There is simply no other way to say it.
  25. I understand all your points. Honest, I do. I'm a certified Apple, Adobe, and Sony instructor, FWIW. Buying Final Cut "Because we're keen on Mac's" is a silly proposition from that particular statement alone. Video computers do not need much networking (if any at all) in a tandem operation, and Windows is every bit as easy to network as a Mac these days. That said...whatever works for you, works for you. There are two Mac-based DZ's that have recently installed monster Vegas systems with Automation...Because it's about choosing the right tool for the right job. If speed isn't part of your need (which you mentioned earlier it was), then you need to reconsider your tools.
