Run it full screen. Notice the grossly oversaturated colors (reduces the required bandwidth for compression). GoPro does the same thing, but to a lesser extent. The GoPro vid that I'm getting isn't as macroblocked, either. I *suspect* that GoPro has a larger imager, but that's just a suspicion. Tiny is tiny regardless. It's also possible that other factors play into it, but without shooting test charts in a couple lighting conditions...hard to have any valid opinion. -
I'd submit that if the owner can afford an Aston, he's probably a better driver than the owner of a 'Vette...

Yes, you're off. There are several threads discussing the pull force required to tear off small format cameras and double stick tape. It's more than you'd think, and certainly a significant amount greater than the few pounds of force to pull a helmet cutaway. Get with one of the camera flyers there at S'nore and talk to em. Some of the guys have lots of experience and can share a few good stories with you.

As long as that 'Vette (or 'stang, or Z3) is bright yellow, orange, or lipstick red, you get a bad hair weave, veneers, and a super hot youngun' on your arm...you'll be stylin. Otherwise, get back to slummin' with skydivers, will ya?

A-get with a coach to help you determine how you're positioning your body in person. The web is a great place to exchange ideas, but without some visual...it's difficult. B-quit worrying about time/distance for the moment and concentrate on "feeling/hearing" the wind against your body and in your ears. Various body positions will "sound" different. One thing that will help you get familiar with hanging on the wind is to lie down on a creeper. Have your arms and legs spread to a loose, relaxed flying position. Put your forehead, hands, and toes on the ground. Take a deep relaxing breath and close your eyes. Relax in that position for 10 seconds. Let your body feel that position and develop a bit of muscle memory. Remember that relaxed feeling in the air and try to recall it as you fly. Time will come with time.

This vid was shot with the T2i, color graded and all post in Sony Vegas. For us, the T2i is a non-starter due to lack of HDMI output for monitoring, but for skydiving....has some super nice options. With *good* glass, the Canon T2i, 7D, 5D, or 1D are great options for the would-be filmmaker. We just finished a training DVD for Canon on this exact subject. However, it can also generate more problems than it solves for the average video cat. *warning* the audio may be annoying. Be glad you didn't cut it.

Just heard that the Czech event isn't happening... If you're gonna be in that neighborhood, some of us will be in Amsterdam and then Switzerland, not to mention the competition in Terni. Hope to see some faces from wherever in Holland. I'll be there for IBC (broadcast conference) and then doing some shooting in Switzerland. PM me f you're heading that way and would like to connect. [edit] FWIW, I'll have the new Sony secret weapon with me. You can play with it, but if you talk about it you'll self-destruct in 5 seconds.

we definitely are not sucking at Jumptown. Verticals aren't as easy as they might appear, and shooting em is even tougher. Nice job Brian, Jeff, Scotty! Justin and Callantine are kickin it hard as organizers, pushing everyone hard. Been a great time so far, and Jumptown has been bustin' butt to make it all work.

it's not as good as CX100 footage if you don't know how to control it, but it _can_ be better because of the glass. However, it's huge by comparison, and it's AVC, not AVCHD, and it's lower bandwidth, and a lot of other things. IMO, I'd not use a 7D for skydiving except for some very exclusive types of uses. Sho' is pretty tho, when it's set up right.

They can't fix the jello'ing. It's inherent to ALL CMOS that use rolling shutter. Shutterspeed helps tremendously with this, but few skydivers are gonna be thrilled with shooting 1/48, 1/50, or 1/60 shutters. For low motion, you can get away with up to 1/120 on most CMOS systems. Even the RED has "jello." I'm not a Nikon insider, so haven't seen what they have/are going to have...but they do use MJPEG which exacerbates jelloing effects in the compression. It *might* be that they've got an algorithm that helps...dunno. Either way, it's an exciting time to be looking at new cams.

Gus, you shot any vid with it yet? 24p isn't terribly good for most people to use (limitation of human application, not the format) and MJPEG vs AVC has some issues as well, I'd be curious to see how it performs.

As mentioned here, it's a stock image shot. Cost all of maybe 250.00 to use.

In the placard pocket of my rigs, I carry: $10.00 Pullup cord 2-3 spare stoes. Money is for when I land off and feel like "tipping." When/if you fly a wingsuit, an off-landing is gonna happen at least once.

Neither Tony suits nor another manufacturer offers a comparable product to the V3. If they did and produced it in considerably quicker time than PF, that is what we all want as wingsuit consumers. That is true competition!! Then, PF either has to speed up in response to the market conditions or lose business to the competition. Spoiled for choice! That is consumer heaven!!

Fair enough. My first was an F111 canopy that I didn't stick with for long at all. Didn't downsize, just changed canopies. That PD 210 easily had 1000 jumps on it when I got it. I shouldn't transfer my "short time" experience to others. Either way, I'm a huge fan of used.

I fhink a "lock out" feature would be great. A sequence of taps to get back into "edit" mode would be helpful. GoPro could benefit from this as well...

A *new* first rig is often a mistake, IMO. You'll only be in it for a short time. Buying used is usually a smarter, more cost-effective way to go. My first 3 rigs were used, starting with a 210 Silhouette, then a 190 Silhouette, then a 170 Silhouette. I found a great Stunts Eclipse that I loved. From there, I bought used Talons, one of them from here on DZ.com. I also bought a used G4 as a second rig. Once you have a better idea of what you want and don't want in a rig, you'll be better informed for that first custom, made-for-you rig. You'll have a better idea of canopies and your specific wants and needs. Save your cash for a bit...Used is a great way to go. Just have a rigger look over the gear you're looking at.

Therein lies the problem is that if the headers are farged, confidence in correct recording is compromised. This is why the AVCHD consortium has agreed to not make this a standard offering; each camera has a unique system. As you've found, it can be circumvented. -
works great, have it set to 1 sec samples. I've had some issues with it connecting to the software in XP but no issues in Win7.

I don't know anything about what is marketing and what isn't, but the footage linked in this thread is time-shifted. Whether that was done to make a suit look faster or not...can't say. But it *was* timeshifted. The frame cadence is obvious to the eye but if that's not enough, it doesn't cut on frames, either. Maybe it was shot at something other than 60i and then sped up, but it's timewarped somewhere between 15% and 25% based on frame cadences (don't know if it was shot 50i or 60i).

Kind of about what I expected. Pixel stretch Oversaturation macroblocking There isn't enough vibration in the shot to indicate how bad the macroblocking would be for the average joe. It's golden hour so hard to see what it really looks like. It's not dark enough to challenge the light sensitivity and not bright enough to see how it manages typical use. In other words, a GREAT marketing clip (except for the stretch and macroblocking). I'd really like to try this camera in the real world. A shame they haven't responded to three emails.
