  1. It was more a safety thing than even suggesting drug use.Just think if everyone thought 10% more safely when flying a canopy in general. Not that we thrill seekers can,t allow ourselves to have fun or that we should be less than 100% percent safe all the time.It just is not real world to think we can be that way.We can try our best to avoid potential bad situations by thinking 10% more on the cautious side instead of the "GO FOR IT" mentality.
  2. After reading april,s parachutist I wondered if soooooo many canopy flyers would have died if they would have thought to themselves, today I will try to be 10% safer in everything I do in skydiving.Been thinking about it alot today. Why do so many much more talented skydivers die?Why did I never get hurt?Maybe it,s because instead of going at skydiving at 100% everyday I tried to curb my lust for doing everything at full tilt.Yeah sure, there were days when doing 10-way when 100% get in the star fast was no big deal.Maybe I felt stronger in my youth then?Maybe now in my middle age I know my limitations better?Question,do you/we skydivers see our limitations as we grow in this, our sport?
  3. ok,so i,m partial to Z-hills or Deland.Spent 2 yrs at Z-hills(promised them I wouldn,t be back)(LOL) and 3 months at Deland.I would try any other DZ that I have not seen yet.
  4. How about none!Skydiving and living to skydive again used to be my religion. Now it,s making love to my girlfriend!
  5. 5/13/56.Feeling my age lately.
  6. 9,DAMN was sure I would go postal on somebody by now?OH Well,no worries, mostly normal.
  7. After 25 years in the sport of skydiving with no sex,I prefer to just have sex now!I love the crazy bitch!I even went so fas as to have "Rob,s Bitch" tattooed on her ass!
  8. Dating an older freak of a girlfriend.Yes,I just put her to sleep with sex!
  9. Kroops on tight have done the trick for years for me.Because my eyes are soooooo bad, 20-100 in one and 20- 200 in the other i,ve always worried about lack of peripheral vision.(have never had much problems seeing sideways)(well able to catch a flash of something going on out that way)Have decided not to change something that works.
  10. This kind of tragedy always bothers me.Who really knows what is going through a mind at a time like that.We hope and pray they are not saying "I CAN MAKE IT".Suppose the real answer to this kind of problem is better preparation from a higher altitude.Mistakes at 1000 ft compound themselves at 500 ft and so on at 100 ft.I,m deeply saddened at any canopy related death. My sincere thoughts go out to family and friends.Be strong and learn from the pain this has caused.
  11. My brother and I spent a hole year training on the old USPA ground to air video system. We could not jump until after the nationals were over.We had a blast at the nationals.Couldn,t wait until we could learn to jump.
  12. Phantom Night jump, cloudy with a full moon.Guess the best part was the secrecy of it.Damn pretty evening to be under canopy.
  13. First,go to drop zones with real pits?Hope they still have them were you are?It used to be in the old days(late 70,s)that you would do 500-800 practice jumps and then set out for the local competition circuit.Best practice ever are those more expensive competition jumps! You don,t easily forget.Start slow setting up good consistent approaches to the target.(be patient,it won,t all happen for you at first)First good approaches, then work on foot placement.A great approach is nothing if you don,t finish well!Good luck, any accuracy you learn will help down the road in your skydiving career.
  14. Weather is usually moderate there.Several years ago only 3 days temps around 30 degrees.Mostly 50-60 range.Have fun.
  15. Your not alone. The first jump every weekend made me a little nervous.Even more nervous after a long(Few Months,years)lay-off.You just need to get your "AIR" Legs back, that,s all.You will be fine once you exit the plane.
  16. Quess it,s the 2 Hurricane jumps I made.First one 200 miles form Hurricane in Va.Second jump at Deland when Andrew came through. Not very cool when you Back up and have no forward drive.MAKES SPOTTING A REAL ISSUE!The second jump I knew what to expect and it was mostly like a cross country. So,if you wanna get the pucker factor up do a Hurricane jump!(not suggesting it)
  17. Yours is diffently computer cut.We had the computer cutter up and running at the end of march 1996.You have a good parachute.Get the most/best use out of it.Learn as much about the flight characteristics as you can. They are really fun to fly.
  18. There is before Computer cutting and after Computer Cutting. We were constantly upgrading the parachutes.Alot Depends on when your jedei was manufactured and its serial no.
  19. In the beginning it took a few jumps to adjust to the increased speed.Just when you thought the canopy would not fly forward anymore you still had speed to burn off before your final flare to land. After a few jumps you quickly get used to the fact that the "Jedei" wants to "Fly".A good reliable, consistent packing method(Pro Pack)with a few simple modifications should be developed by you over time. Some like the nose slightly rolled "Inward"(outer 3 cells on each side rolled to middle cell) to slow the opening a bit.The first "Jedei,s" were prone to open on the brisk side to say the least, until the packing process was refined.(yours may be already "broken in" and may not need any packing variations.Ask around your DZ for someone for sure has jumped the "Jedei" before and can help you with some packing tips.ENJOY!
  20. Congratulations, hard to go back to something less when you have been let loose with a "Jedei".My guess is you now own one of the original "Jedei,s" with the heavier toggle pressure. We made sure to fix that with the "Swptwing".Please have fun and fly safe.
