  1. I have known of the no sew fingertrap for about a year, it is a great idea, and I use it for making loops for my power packing tools all the time. But when used for ringertrapping toggles it can cause problems, as the toggle wears out and the lines get frayed it is very hard to undo, when it is fresh it can easily be undone, but with worn out lines it makes it a lot more difficult. Either way it is a great idea, and I use it a lot, especially replacing lower control lines. This said, many manufacturer's wont recommend it, Jump shack has used it and has found it to work well, but you know how it goes, "If I didnt think of it, it isnt any good". So use it at your own risk and convinience. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  2. You forgot to mention the $70 Helicopter jumps from 5000ft, yep its true no typo $70 jumps. Im wondering will the pilot kiss you before he (oh I cant say that). But if you want to pay a fortune for a jump from a helicopter they are having them. I think they have sold a huge 0 slots so far, but there is someone that has to have won the lotto that skydives and wants to buy a ticket. And since no one is buying slots that mean's there is no wait to manifest so come one come all. Anyway come on up and do some $14 jumps and have some fun, oh yeah there is some kind of $1 beer special also. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  3. Anything we do can pose a possibility of Death, this post was brought on by Rons post about seeing someone die. I bartended for 5 years at some of the biggest clubs in Miami, and I cant count how many friend's and customers I buried due to their ability to get shitfaced and still drive home. Even some innocent sober people that made the bad choice of riding home with an extremely intoxicated driver. Now this should have, maybe have or not have, made me decide, that I dont want to bartend anymore. We all take risks, and with the advancement's in skydiving gear, this sport is relatively safe. Of course people Die doing it, I have seen a few of them, and even known some of them (One which confuses the shit out of me still today, as he was the last person on earth I thought would go in). You risk more driving to your dz, than you do jumping there (well negotiable based on your decisions on how well you educate yourself, and police yourself on who you jump with and what you do, and maintain your gear ect, ect.) Skydiving is an incredible Sport, it definitely captures everyone that does it in a special way. to do what we do, only is wonderful. Today I was on the plane flying over downtown Deland looking down thinking, all those people in their offices have no idea how the world looks from up here, and how beautiful, the sky is my playground, and instead they are pushing pencils, fighting over parking spaces, whatever. And I am on top of that without a care in the world, ready to feel the air. Yes there is a risk, but with risk you can acheive. You jump, you fly, you learn. We can all make this sport a lot safer in many ways, one way is look out for each other, check everyones gear, (I look at any rig I can see on the plane and see if I can find anything wrong), ask for pin checks also. Watch out for everyone under canopy, you aren't the only person in the air, with the range of canopy sizes out there today it is very important, you owe a responsability to yourself as well as the people around you to look around and be carefull, that is why there is a flight pattern (What if 21 cessna's were all trying to land at the same place in 10 seconds) also Jump run isnt that short why does everyone land near the pea's in 10 seconds of each other, from Ve79's to specter 210's? We have all seen this happen, and it shouldn't. Skydiving is something we all love, and sometimes bad thing's happen, we all can do something about this to lessen the chances, while there still isnt a perfect rig, parachute or airplane, we all can do a little more to make it safer. I can guarantee that if you spent a day at any Dz in the world you will see something that's wrong, and could be corrected. Take a minute to talk to the person, dont yell at him, be nice and explain (egos need pampering sometimes). If you see someone with questionable gear, take a minute and discuss it with him, offer to give him a riggers # to get it fixed. Seeing someone go in, or knowing someone that went in, isnt a good thing, maybe if we work together we can lower the times this happens, no one can stop all of them, but we can help lower the Number's. Lets all start Today! Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  4. I have a few examples, of this and the results: 1: I was at skydive Az for the Nationals and we were using a packer, I usually cocked my own pc but one round Video was confused so I didn't have time, so I left it for the packer, who didn't cock it. During break off I dump and nothing happen's, I froze up, I was worried as hell about my main deploying as my reserve fired. Just as I went for my cutaway my pc inflated and deployed my main. I can say I f'd up big time there, I was under an open main, lower than I would want to be under a good reserve. Lesson learned, next time dont hesitate pull both handle's and pray. 2: A jumper was doing a rw jump, and did a little playing around at breakoff (Fruit Looping) somehow his cutaway handle was pulled, without his knowledge. He tracked off normally and deployed, his main came off his back so fast and clean we can only asume that he had no idea that it was gone, and believed to have a pc in tow. Having had a pc in tow myself I believe that to be true, cause I had no idea what was going on behind my back. Anyway, he spent the rest of his life trying to clear his pc in tow, and then trying to cutaway a handle that wasn't there. 3: A jumper with a new rig, and a new pull out system was jumping with her team, at break off, she tried to deploy, and her pull out was misrouted, this is the hard to understand thing somehow she got her pc out of the container but the container was locked. The jury is out on if she beat her cypress or not, but it fired, and she landed about 20 feet away from her handles and freebag, extremely shaken. Lesson learned, she had the same exact problem a week later and wasted no time cutting away and pulling her reserve. She now jumps a BOC design, but the pull out isnt to blame, Jumpers should check their gear, and Packers should know how to close the gear the right way. If you ask 10 instructors what to do in this situation you will get 10 different results, Its good to see you are thinking about it, and make a plan ahead of time for any situation, best of all stick to what you decide, practice, practice, practice. My opinion is Never go in with any handle's. But I also make sure I am deployed well high enough to handle any situation (Hopefully). Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

  7. The initial responsability belongs to the tandem master on if you can jump with them and be responsible, but you have a lot of responsability to be as careful as possible also, and to know what you can and cant do when jumping with a tandem. Tandem masters should assess and decide if you are ready to fly with a tandem. It is very dangerous and flying with tandems is a lot different than a normal skydive. If you do plan on jumping with a tandem, especially for the first time, ask the tandem master what to expect, and also what not to do. Never take a grip on the tandem master, if it is ok with the instructor sometimes he wil allow you to take a grip on the student, but be aware, at pull time you need to be well away. Also stay far way from the Drouge and NEVER! fly over or under the tandem. The tandem has a very limited range of movement and it is hard for them to avoid you. At deployment give them plenty of space, stay far away, or even best trak away at wave off. When a tandem deploys they have a trap door where they fall faster suddenly and then slow down fast when the tandem inflates. Also plan your exit with the tandem master, and if there is Video ask him what he wants you to do also, the first priority is the Tandem, next is video, so you need to stay well out of everyones way, let the tandem master and the videographer know what you plan to do on the dive. The rules as far as jumping with a tandem used to be, you had to be a tandem master to do it, this has kinda been changed due to the desire for video, and the lack of Videographers with tandem rating's. This post was brought on by an incedent today where a tandem instructor was hit by someone in freefall, No one was hurt but from the video you can see how easily it could have been Bad. The tandem was a fast one, and the flyer was having a hard time staying down with them, he went into a sit and went out of control and almost nailed them the first time, (very close call) you can see the instructor was upset. Later in the dive the flyer repeated trying to sit, and had a fast forward movement about 10 feet above the tandem he then possibly hit burble, or possibly just had a fast downward fall rate, and struck the instructor. Too many possibilities of what could have happened so I wont go into detail, but drouge entanglement, an unconcious instructor, injuries from the impact ect name a few. Conclusion: It is very exciting to join someone on their first skydive, but Tandems are a difft monster than an ordinary skydive. You need to be extra careful, and also your flying skills need to be good enough as well as your comon sence. Ask a lot of questions and plan the dive well. Tandems when they exit fall extremely fast until the drogue is released, and then they slow down drastically, stay far away until the drogue is clear, and the tandem is under control. Move in slowly and be careful. NEVER grab the tandem instructor, and make sure you give them plenty of space on deployment. Also be careful when docking on th passenger, sometimes they dont want to let go. It is very exciting to see someone do their first skydive, I love to see the smiles on their faces and share their experience, it brings back good memories of my first time. Be careful. You have responsability to be careful for yourself, as well as the Passenger and instructor. Have fun out there but be careful. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  8. Skydive Deland is having $14 jumps for the next week, its the annual Fuck Quincy (I know Rantoul) Boogie. They dont advertise but come one come all. Oh yeah there is a helecopter there also, but the cost of that isnt set, or I dont know but thats always the case I dont know. I know this should be in Events but I wanted everyone to know. So come out and make sure you say hi. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  9. I use a public compter sometimes to acess Dz.com and the LOG OUT function doesn't work. I am afraid someone will use this computer and make post's under my name. The computer at the DZ is an Imac and when you close the browser it rembers where it was when you did it. Thanks. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  10. I called the place to buy a Canon 10D and the salesman was telling me about a camera he owns that he thinks is much better. I did a lot of looking around online and found a lot of positive reviews of the Sigma SD9. Now making a hard decision even harder, its hard to fork over $2000 for a Camera and acessories. Has anyone had any experience with this camera, or seen one. I know Sigma isnt as good as Canon, but a Camera is usually only as good as the lens and I plan n using Sigma Lenses anyway. Also this 3 layer technology, gimmic, or good idea? Thanks. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  11. I jumped a pdr 106 with about 50 jumps on it, (RWS Skyhook Test Rig) and it landed incredibly smooth. I did do a 180 with it to increase landing speed, I have 3 jumps on a pdr113 and they were straight in and were nice and 3 jumps on my own pdr126, I prefer the landing I got out of the pdr 106, I got a nice swoop and a good finish out of it. But the other I landed straight in. I dont recomend anyone to land canopies this highly loaded especilly 7 cell f11 canopies. But I wanted to give you my results. 12. I decided to jump in and buy a D10, where is the best place to buy one? I usually go through Bh photo, but they are a lot more expensive than I have seen elsewhere. Also I have decided to go with the Sigma Lens for now, where is the best place to but that one also? Im thinking I could get the canon 15 for $650 or get the sigma 14 for the same amount. So I am going to go for the sigma 14. Thanks for all the help. Edited to add This sounds too good to be truehttp://www.kngphoto.com/eos10d.html Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  13. Here is a ? what about High quality Digital shots, over film. We have a guy with a D10 here and he is selling his pics for a lot more than regular, and also charges $100 an hour for ground stills. Best thing is he doesn't have a developing charge and you can preview the pic before you buy it, a day filming landings can pay very well. But what do you think should be a fair charge? 16. CCNA here, that and a dollar will buy you a bowl of soup. But if you want a job in the Networking field I recommend it, you will learn a lot. The Mcse/Mcsa has so many holes and teaches you so little you really should get your CCNA. Take Network+ first for sure if you are planning on attempting your Mcse or you will be wondering whats going on a lot. I have 2 years of school and I learned more in my first month of Internship than I learned the whole time in school. Good luck. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  17. Mac= Imovie, this is my favorite editing program, but Im a PC guy. Pc= Dazzle (only cause its cheap and gets the job done) But there is a lot better ones out there. Windows has an editing program but it isnt very good. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  18. Consider me Kicked, thanks for help and the compliment, coming from you I apreciate it. Next week Im going to buy it. Now do I go with the Sigma lens, or kick out the extra change and get the canon 15? Oh yeah sorry for the delay on the Video I talked to you about, my partner kind of fell out. But its 75% complete There is still a few things I want to work out, I would rather take forever and make a great product. But you will get the first one well before release, just so I can get your professional opinion. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  19. I just read this, I dont know how true it is or not, but you deserve to read it. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/6379394.htm If there is any merit to this, or proof its not true, please comment. I myself dont see how a strap could get that worn out without anyone noticing. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

  21. How about the old myth (FACT?) that cutaways come in 3's. I myself have won money 2 times betting on another cutaway in a day, when there was 2 already. I also went 1600 jumps without a cutaway and had 3 in the next hundred. Then there was a canopy of mine I bought and it ended up with 7 cutaways in the next 70 jumps on it (None me, all people I let borrow my rig, guess I was lucky) That canopy got retired. Dont sweat it, these things happen, Pulling stable also helps a little. Oh yeah #1 reason to have another cutaway, well #1 and #2 Did you buy your beer? And did you buy your rigger his bottle? I packed a save for someone that didnt buy his bottle and in less than a month he had a mal and lost everything, coincedence I think not, kharma, will get you everytime. 22. I use it a lot now and there is no chance of gunkifying your lens/camera, you just rub a tiny amount on with your finger and then rub it off with a cloth. Why isnt it everywhere? I guess their marketing dept sucks, there definitely is a demand for a product that stops camera fogging, sometimes we just get lucky and find a product intended for a difft market that works great for our purpose. I still think its funny to look at my offshore fishing catalog's and see "Emergency Line Cutter" at $60 when its a Jack the ripper hook knife, with a sticker on the handle. 23. Go buy a laser pointer, they are cheap as hell, then zoom your video camera in, mount your laser pointer on your helmet so that when you look through your video camera you see the dot in the center of the screen. Then use the Laser to site your still camera in. If you are using a Flat mount for your still, then you might want to site your still in first and then move your video camera to the same angle. Good Luck. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  24. Im sitting on the plane during the last Fsl meet, and I see Graham Harding (Deland Majik) rubbing this stuff on his lens. I thought, he has to know nothing works in this Florida humidity and forget about it. Then Im watching everyone dub and of course break off is hidden by foggy lens's for everyone, except Graham, his lens is perfectly clear. So Immediatey I ask him what his secret is, and he hands me a jar and says here ya go. Its called Cat Crap, and Oh my god it works great, a little bit rubbed on your lens in the morning and then buffed off works majik. I haven't seen a hint of moisture since I started using it. The only bad thing is I have no idea where to buy it, and Graham said he had to look all over the place to find it. Lucky for me he had extra's. Good luck finding it, but it definitely works for me.
