have you read it before posting? you really have no idea what genocide means, do you? yes, there is war here and yes people suffer and it might suprise you but i'd REALLY rather live in an country in which the only risk in taking a bus is a car accident... what do you suggest? not to search ambulances, after many explosives were hidden under the patients' heads? not to search civilians, when innocent schoolboys were used to carry bombs in their backpacks? how about letting women pass unchecked? oh, wait there were more than enough female terrorists who blew themselves up. is it hard for the civilian population? sure, no doubt and i wish there was another way. but what would you have done when every break you give them is used by terrorists? the other solution is complete seperation. we are not there and they don't come to work in israel. is it a good solution? no, they will suffer more because they need israel for economic reasons. and as for your precious U.N, excuse me for not being too impressed with it, the US veto is pretty much what keeps it alive. here are some statistics (from last year), which pretty much shows why israel is always the bad guy in the U.N and why the U.N is a joke. if this seems unfair, just imagine how it would be without the US... ------------------------------ 21 members of the UN are Arab countries, and at least 52 members represent Islamic countries. starting with a few simple facts: -The Arab nations are represented by 21 separate countries, israel is 1. -Of the 189 member nations , 188 may be elected to serve on the powerful Security Council, guess who can't.... and while (valid for mid 03): -Head of Human Rights commission: Lybia -Head of Disarmament: Iraq (recently) -a member if the security council : Syria the UN seems like a joke... here are some statistics from 1946-1990: Security Council: 175 Total Resolutions 74 Neutral 4 Against the perceived interests of an Arab state or body 97 Against Israel General Assembly: Cumulative Number of Votes cast with/for Israel: 7,938. Cumulative Number of Votes cast against Israel: 55,642 How about we take a look at the Human rights commission (was headed by lybia in 2003..) *Israel has been the only state subject to an entire agenda item every year. *The Commission on Human Rights has spent more time on Israel than any other country. The Commission spent two days criticizing Israel and less than two hours on AIDS *While 11 percent of its total substantive meeting has been on Israel alone, 24 percent of its time has been spent on all other UN states combined. *27 percent of its country- specific resolutions critical of a state have been on Israel alone. The real double standards? No resolution in the history of the commission has ever been passed on states such as Syria, China, Saudi Arabia or Zimbabwe. other UN contributions: 1956: Permitted Nasser's nationalization of the Suez Canal 1967: Secretary-General U Thant withdrew UN peace- keeping forces from Gaza 1974: Invited Terrorist Yasser Arafat to address the General Assembly (long before the Oslo process started) 1975: Adopted the infamous resolution equating Zionism with racism 2000: UNIFIL obstructed investigation of Hezbollah kidnapping of Israeli soldiers 2001: Sponsored the anti-Israel World Conference on Racism in Durban, South Africa --------------------------------------------- the Majority is NOT always right, especially when the judge is one sided. Ralph Nader Doesn't Qualify for Ballot in Oregon!
falxori replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
this is low, bill, even for you. there were and will be many "inventions" created to gain news coverage and cause an initial shock. remember the "massacre" in jenin who turned out to be mostly armed terrorists? i can give you many more. you know what?, if we use poison gas (or any other form of mass destruction weapons) to exterminate palestinians, i'll be the first one to call for the destruction of israel as a country. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -
so chasing Bin-Laden and Al-Queida is ok, but hunting down Hamas leaders is not ok? excuse me, but how are they different besdie one targeting US/spain/turkey/bali/ and also Israel and the other targeting (for now) only Israel? they both target civilians, they both wont hear of any other solution and both of them have been labeled "a terrorist organization" by most of the world. the only difference is the nationality of the victims, which makes your different views of them being a valid target in a very bad light... not offended i just hope more people would do more research before reaching a conclusion, moreover when your main (and often only) source is what you see on TV. you're free to feel his way is not the right way, and many here would agree with you (we are democratic, you know...) I didnt vote for him either, but i must say that given the situation i would have done the same. and yes, i do hope there will be someone reasonable to talk to on the other side, and believe it or not, Sharon will talk rather than shoot. hmmm, no thanks... if that would be my only option i'll move. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

smarter people than you ??? i didn't think there were any its simplisticly complex. the only way to stop terror is to remove the motivation. but the things that will reduce this motivation are the same things that will allow them to attack freely now. on the other hand, every move you make to lower their current abilities will motivate more in the future. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

not going to throw crap at you nor to flame you. and maybe you're not completely wrong, but you rely on half truths and misconceptions. i can easily prove you wrong on every issue you've raised but i doubt it will make you see things in another way. and as for the "wall" which is actually a fence beside where its close to a main road or settlement when its also used against gun fire, i wish we didnt need it. does your house have a front door ? why do you keep it locked ? i do think it should follow the 67 border line and it mostly does. anyway, as for "being right on the verge of making peace " , the camp david accord you're referring to ended before he was elected and if you check you'll see that they were offered a state on most of the territory and land exchange (which would give them more space in the cramped Gaza area) for the rest. instead, Arafat chose to do what he's always done when he didnt get what he wanted... anyway, what would you suggest? get out of their "lands" ? great, we wanted to do it in coordination with the PA but they didnt want to take over. so now your so called "right-wing war-mongering fuckhead" is going to leave the gaza strip (as a first stage) without an agreement. sounds like the palestinian dream, right? i guess not because they reject it completely... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

no doubt, war is bad. mostly for the simple people who have to fight and die. what about those who sent them? those who motivated them and those who took the strtegic decision to crash those planes? you don't put the "simple soldier" on trial for war crimes, you trial the leaders who send them. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

well naturally if he wasn't planning terror attacks he would still be alive... but you seem to like the word "retaliation", so ok, its a form of retaliation O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
-
stop them? no. the only things that will "stop them" is a diplomatic agreement that will give them a state which has a palestinian authority and a (singl) police force. what it will do is to make those who plan terror attacks look after themselves and hide instead of planning the next attack. we hold "this leader" responsible for terror attacks much more than the poor young man or woman who exploded in a bus. these "leaders" send them, train them, brainwash them with religious crap with has nothing to do with real Islam etc. as for bystanders, enough was said about the fact that they make sure they're sorrounded by civilians most of the time . he was followed for more than 24 hours before he was hit, because they were waiting for the best time where there will be less civilians with him, and as far as i know most of those who got hurt were Hamas people. i don't justify hurting bystanders, there is no excuse for that, but it happens. as i see it, you should send a thank you note to speedo, considering the alternative... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

i really resent this "both sides" statement. yes, there are right wingers that would like to see all arabs go away, and the very few who try to do something illegal are in jail. there is a big difference between political extremists and terrorism. its not to retaliate. to retaliate would be to blow up a school bus or drop a bomb in the middle of the market. this was chasing the man leading a terrorist organization who has murdered hundreds. and the immediate result is their leaders hiding and looking over their shoulders. and the DO attack at random, ALL the time. lucky for us, the majority are captured before exploding (only last week, 2 explosive packs were captured at a road block, one hidden in a school boy's bag), two succeeded and killed 10 civilians in one of our ports (not too far from chemical storage facility.) O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

well he did say he wanted to die "for the cause"... so i guess he got what he wanted. and yes, i do predict a boost in their motivation, not that there was any shortage in the past 3 years. the main reason for this action was and still is to make them run and hide, instead of plan and attack. and it does work. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

i wonder what would their reaction be if it was the mind behind the madrid attacks... no endto hypocrisy... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

here you go... in the past 3 years only (since the collaps of the peace process, Hamas only, not including other groups) 425 terror attacks (including those with no victims) 377 dead. 2,076 wounded. and if you count only the lethal ones (again 3 years): 52 attacks which killed 288 victims and wounded 1,646. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

i'll be leaving Vegas on the 5h oh well, at least JT promised me a beer O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

you're right about one thing. Israel has a very strong army (because it was needed mostly...) but a strong army can't fight terror. there is no "operational" problem to move in with tanks and shoot anything and everything but despite what some might think we actually try to hit the terrorists while hurting the innocent as less as possible (and thats why they've used precision missiles that killed him and his companions and not a "bunker blaster" bomb on his house). do i like "controlling" palestinians? no do i want them to have a state next to mine? yes. do i like the fact that civilians are having rough times because ambulances were used to carry explosives and explosive vest was hidden in a 12 years old school boy? no, but i don't see any other choice. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

naaah, hellfires work best... anyway, it will raise some flames because he was their "religious guru" but for me, any religious guru who uses his religion to recruit and motivate suicide bombers is much worse than those who are sent to explode in busses. he was in no way a "political figure" only. he was the founder, chief and only authority of Hamas. and as for their "revenge", they carry out terror attacks when, where and as many as they can. it will not stop terror, but it will make them run for their lives instead of sitting and planning the end of mine. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
