  1. was there a reason for not unstowing the right one? or is it just something you didnt consider? it should have been easier with both unstowed, but maybe i'm missing something (there is much i don't know about canopy piloting...) O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  2. i meant "accidents" as mistakes, not as a plane crash. and i disagree. accepting these risks would be, knowing the engine is overdue for maintenance yet taking off hoping it will be ok. as far as i "know" the plane is maintained properly. if the DZ knows there is a problem with the plane and doesn't inform the jumpers, thats not an "acceptable" risk. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  3. you keep treating the waiver as "giving your word" not to sue, and thats fine with me. i will keep my word as long as the DZ keeps theirs. the "trust" you talk about should go both ways, and if a DZO falsifies records or tries to save money by compromising safety, this trust is broken. i value my word and i will not break it unless i REALLY feel this trust was broken by the DZ. hopefully i'll never have to face this dilemma... o "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  4. why ? if you research andd talk to people and know you'll keep jumping. i've ordered my wings when i had about 20 jumps. and after 2.5 years and 200 jumps, it still looks almost new. as for downsizing, i doubt i'll go below my 170 anytime soon. wings are cool O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  5. so you're basiclly saying "its not a safe sport, so i accept all of the risks, even the unneeded ones" no, its not a safe sport, but there is a difference between known (and accepted) risks which come with the sport and unneeded risks which i'm not willing to accept. this sport is risky enough without a drunk pilot, poorly maintained plane and out of date reserves. these are not accident, these are crimes. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  6. main: Sabre2 170. reserve: PDR 163. i think i'll stay with both in about the same size, so when i downsize to 150, i'll keep my PDR 163. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  7. thought of going there last year, its a great tunnel but i think its too expensive... we've waited and went to the one in perris last month also expensive, but less... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  8. i don't speak russian, but altavista has a pretty cool russian-english translation tool anyway, from what i understand, there isnt a lot of info on that website, mainly the story behind the tunnel, who builds it and why. couldn't find any rates or procedures, but i could have missed it... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  9. you're right, most if not all DZs these days are a business. i pay, they give me a service. they also provide other things but basicly i pay for a ride up/gear/coach etc. i won't sue anyone for my mistakes but yes, as far as sfae planes, mantained gear and qualified staff, i expect to get what i paid for. i have "lots of regard" for my life and i'm well aware of the risks i'm taking. but i don't see why i need to assume additional risks like faulty props or drunk pilot... maybe its just me but i see a huge different between landing off and breaking a leg (even if someone else spotted) and faulty gear or staff on drugs. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  10. but why ??? he seemed like a really nice guy... anyway, i'll take my chances and you still owe me a jump ! O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  11. take a look at this... its a big file (18 mb) but i think its worth it... its an egyptian clip that was created for the arab conference that was scheduled for march. i especially "liked" his explanation to 9/11 here's a partial translation, although the clip is more "amusing"...: new egyptian hit enjoy... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  12. mind telling me where you got these numbers from? none of these figures is "well known" and at least some, i can easily prove they have nothing to do with reality... but lets go your way, and talk about the definition. what is a refugee? a person who has lost his home and had to settle somewhere else? and after he was settled, do you count his children and grandchildren as refugee too? killed? civilians only or armed forces too (including terrorists)? even if you go to the most extreme definitions i doubt you'll get to these numbers. then again, if you believe israel uses gas on children in Gaza and dump toxic waste in their water supply, i don't see why you'd doubt these "facts" O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  13. sorry, but i'm not frustrated by this... and i don't see it as anti semitic either. yes, this "display" is full of lies and twisted facts, but still i support the "artist" right to display it. its the city who sponsered it i have a problem with becuase they should consider their audience too. maybe this artist should change the title to "Colonizing australia and the fate of the natives who were there first..." i'm sure the numbers would be closer to reality... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  14. i never said it was "anti- jewish" actually the title of this article is "Row over anti-Israel art display", i dont know why the original poster of this thread made it "jewish art" as for being art, i agree. i was expressing my own opinion. i just dont see anything in it that would match my definition of art, not in skill nor in concept. jusr a vulgar piece created to gain publicity in the easiest way (even if these "facts" were true, which they aren't) O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  15. i didn't know that... you learn a new thing every day
  16. at most (and really streching it), these "facts" are partial and not accurate. not to mention that they lack the context of historical events... i've never heard such a number, nor anything close to it. again, the number is absurd, there werent 5,000,000 total here when israel was founded... but yes there are refugees , the result of a war THEY have started. further more, after 1948 there were millions of jewish arabs who were driven out of their homes and were refugees in israel. you know what's the difference? they are no longer refugees because israel took care of them, the arab countries chose to keep their refugees in camps for political gain... the west bank and gaza were never annexed to israel. palestinians who remained in israel when it was founded got israeli citizenship. the only part that was annexed was the eastern part of old jerusalem in 1967. maybe, i don't know the number but yes, villages has been destroyed in the wars. wars that they started after rejecting the division plan. and i'm pretty sure no jewish village or town would have survived if this war was lost... i would guess more, but whats that has to do with palestinians? i dont know whats the purpose of this display (probably just to get some idiot publicity), its hardly art... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  17. ok, i think i've missed your point a little bit (too many religion/culture based threads lately,,, ) different cultures traditionally "annex" customs and even holidays of other cultures, and in some cases its a good thing, especially if you live in that culture. as i said, i agree its stupid and i'd chose another way to make my kid feel special (and i'm pretty sure there are many things to celebrate even if you're not jewish ), O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  18. just to make my point clearer, i think $40,000 is way too much for any party, no matter whats the cause. i'm not sure how it is in the US now but here no one comes near these figures for a party. is it stupid to have a fake "bar mitzvah" just because you have jewish friends? sure. but its no different than doing many other things because of peer pressure. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  19. actually i know of many jewish families in the US that have a Xmas tree. It is not taken as a religious thing though, simply as a "holiday spirit" thing, just as non religious christians see it. anyway, so what? if her father has 40,000$ to spend on a birthday party that will make his daughter happy, why shouldnt he? i agree you shouldnt give you child everything and anything. but i guess thats up to the parents. i didnt have a huge party when i turned 13, actually i didn't have a party at all although most of my friends did. instead we went on a long coast to coast trip in the US, which for me was more fun than feeding 250 people i hardly know... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  20. oh thank you, i'm so happy no one asked you "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  21. i agree, people should be allowed to say whatever they want, even crap like this. but th city of Melbourne shouldnt be supporting it... as for these "facts", give me a break or at least open a history book... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  22. as i said, i don't support this list and not the views behind it (and especially the comparison). but "prolly coz Jews have more time to sit around on their arse and be producing art and peace. " and "Arabs on the other hand are dodging bullets and trying to feed their family," ?!?!? where the hell did you come up with such a statement? i don't remember any jews shooting in iraq/iran/egypt/syria/sudan/yemmen/saudi arabia/pakistan/jordan or any other of the 21 arab or 52 muslim countries. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  23. yeap, its pretty depressing. on the other hand, 40% of Likud party members supporting it without anything in return (not as a part of an agreement) is not THAT bad. it was a wrong political move but it won't stop the process. Sharon won't let it, and Bush won't either. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  24. but that would mean going back before Islam O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  25. i dont think i was reading earlier than most westeners. i doubt i love my family more than you do and i work as hard as the average american (excuse me all the europeans who have 55 days off each year...) thank you for respecting my cultural valuse, but they aren't that different from normal western values which combine capitalism with self fulfillment. i really dont see my desire to learn, advance and make a good living as a result of being jewish. its living in a competitive world and growing up in a western culture. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
